I spat out my beer and rolled around on the floor laughing at reading this utter crap article.
It seems AFL 'journalists' are rushing to be as obnixious as they can to get a pay rise.

'Michael Warner: AFL’s hypocrisy in era of identity politics is turning fans against one another.'

Read his nonsense here, he also has a crack at Indigenous culture and Pride Round for no apparent reason.

'Persistent Welcome to Country ceremonies, Pride rounds, pre-match knee-dropping and race-baiting doesn’t unite Australians – it creates a growing level of resentment, turning us against each other.'

He actually makes a lot of good points. I definately dont agree with all of it, like throwing out DEI. The AFL does some really important work in that space. That said, there is also alot of hypocracy and virtue signalling going on so I can see both points of view. The gambing stuff in particular is spot on.

But resorting to just calling him a flog is emblematic of the problem with society today. Instead of being able to have an intelligent conversation about the article, we just call someone a name who has a different opinion and leave it at that.

Couldn't care less about WTC, Pride Round, etc but anyone who seriously gets offended by a Bin Laden mask(where the ump didn't even wear it publicly) probably needs therapy to understand why they get offended by someone taking the piss out of a dead terrorist.

Unless there were 9/11 survivors there, of course.

Surely people have bigger things in their lives to be worried about (health, finance, relationships etc.) than to be offended over a bunch of drunk people playing dress ups.

AFL has gone extremely woke (like most things I guess) beyond the point of reason.

As I said, I couldn't care less what the AFL does in regards to pride rounds, diversity initiatives, WTC, etc, provided it doesn't diminish the overall product, like we've seen in entertainment media these past few years.

I get that it's a bit 'canary in the coalmine stuff' but overall, I don't think this stuff diminishes the overall AFL product, in my opinion. Record attendances would also somewhat prove my point.

Punishing an umpire for dressing up at a private function, where he got changed at the function is a complete joke though. Especially when the state of umpiring has never been worse.

Of all the things to punish an umpire over, dress ups ain't it...

Stop saying woke, you sound ridiculous. Give me a definition of woke, you can't.

What has a Bin Laden mask got to do with Pride round or The Voice voting?

Well said, my thoughts entirely.

Once you drop the phrase 'virtue signalling' we all know where you're coming from .

'Only the permanently outraged would have taken offence when an AFL umpire attended a private, post-season “characters of the 2000s” party in an Osama bin Laden mask.
Predictably, it triggered an investigation (and a one-match suspension) at AFL HQ where the game’s administrators have tied themselves in knots conforming to the era of identity politics, moral grandstanding and radical left ideology.
But recent world events and last year’s failed Voice referendum reflect how a growing majority have had enough of progressive lectures and the rise of divisive social agendas and their endless demands.
Persistent Welcome to Country ceremonies, Pride rounds, pre-match knee-dropping and race-baiting doesn’t unite Australians – it creates a growing level of resentment, turning us against each other.'
