Is Nick Riewoldt deliberately favoured by umpires?

For all the people saying that Rooey pushed Mattner first, watch the whole incident. Play had stopped, Mattner shoves Roo, Roo shoves Mattner and it should have been over. Instead, Mattner comes back while ROOS BACK IS TURNED and shoulder barges him in the back and then tries to slink away unseen.

Dog act and deserved a free kick.

tbh, i didn't see what riewoldt did first and took my brothers word for it that it was completely provoked. Having said that, it was undisciplined of mattner to shove him in the back because it undoubtably risks a free. Roosey will know doubt have some stern words with marty.

Yes i ****ing hate him, i hate the way he marks, i hate that he's favoured by the umpires, but most of all, i hate him because he's good.

That's the main reason people hate him but they won't admit it.

I don't really understand it myself, I can still appreciate what a great player Ablett is without hating him. The only time I really hate him is when he is playing against my team and carving us up, even then you still have to admire his skills.

People realise he is a good player, but he has the skills to be a good player wihout flopping around like a fish. So why does he continually do it?

He has taken the title of leagues biggest diver with his actions over the last year.

He doesn't need to do it, but still does, and does it all the time, it's pathetic to watch and really makes you cringe.

Saints will go a long way as long as they stick to the game plan - Kick long to Reiwoldt and wait for the umpire's whistle.

After tonights game all teams that play st kilda please do not go near him cause if you just breath on him he'll will get a free kick

lol - coming from a team who had Liberatore and Romero in its side.

Coming from a bloke whose team captain is the biggest diver in the League

What a buch of cry baby sooks you Bulldog supporters are.

Get over the fact that brainless Lake is a moron and cost your team a shot at a flag.

Oh and BTW when hasd a charge into the back like tonight legal?

You bunch of absolute whiney sooks.

Cant wait to see Johnson diving all over the place you you fools trying to justify it

BAWWWWW, a St.Kilda supporter can't handle the fact that Riewoldt's a bigger cheat than Thierry Henry so he trolls the other supporters team. Outright pathetic and exactaly what you expect from a St.Kilda supporter. Culture.

It seems that some Bulldog supporters are lowering themselves to a new low.
It's hard to believe any fair dinkum supporter could come up with something like that.

Not getting any points for originality are we? Can't think of a proper reply? If it hasn't become blatantly obvious to your small mind yet, you might soon notice Riewoldt really has reached a new low.

What a surprise, the Saints win and all the Riewoldt hate begins again.

The guys a champion and you're all just jealous he doesn't play in your team. Suck it up and get over it.

Jealous? LMFAO, good one, but sorry, I doubt any other team (apart from maybe Carlton) would want their culture stained by Riewoldt. He proved it at the Mattner shove where he smiled after taking a dive and getting the free. He's pathetic.

This. I dont hate him - i think he is a great player and actually shouldve been MVP last year if we are using the true meaning of the words "Most Valuable Player". But like Lloyd before him, Brad Johnson, Brent Harvey and even my own teams Stevie J, i believe he is too good to be staging and diving like he does now on a regular basis. And i think its time the umps woke up to it like thay have with SJ.

P.S The smile afterwards was arrogant and made himself look even worse.

I hope Rooey watches the Brisbane v W Coast replay when he gets back to the hotel tonight.

He'll be a able to watch the toughest, strongest and most gutsy power forward in the AFL - J Brown.

You will never see him dive, cry, whinge and play for free kicks.

Take a leaf Rooey or you will never get rid of the umpires pet reputation.

The people who hate him because he's good line is rubbish. People don't hate Lenny Hayes, he's good. Most people myself included, loved Rob Harvey. He was extremely good. People love Richo, he was a gun. Simon Black, Brett Kirk why aren't these people hated??? They're good

People don't like Reiwoldt because he throws himself to the ground when the play is stopped when he receives the slightest contact. If you honestly think a guy like Reiwoldt needed to hit the ground from tonight's bump you're absolutely kidding yourself

Reiwoldt doesn't need to do it because he is very good. But he does, and its not in the spirit of the game at all

I'm not being a sore loser, full credit to stk and Sydney, but god the umpires have a thing for stk. This is like, the 2nd time its ruined games and killed momentum.

Seriously, you can't touch the guy.

I have to agree with that.
I'm wondering if it's even worth playing the rest of the season, just give Riewoldt the cup now.

Can't believe people are taking a shot at Roo but not Goodes.

Goodes has taken over from Brad Johnson as the league's worst yet people focus on Roo? Wonder why that is? :)

He throws the ball more than any player in AFL/VFL history too. If we're going to allow Sydney to throw it (I gather yet another concession), can we at least make them throw it backwards?

but why?

Is this all a big conspiracy theory about the umps? Do they barrack for StKilda?

You guys got 29 frees to 18.
Can you help me out with this because everyone is complaining but not coming up with any credible reason.

Did you even watch the game? Or just plucking out stats and trying to mount some kind of a flimsy argument with them?

I take it the latter reason, because if you actually watched the game you wouldn't be saying that, unless you are seriously dumb, or just don't understand football. Either one probably applies to you.

My biggest problem with the game now is that umpires used to just pay free kicks, now the look for them.

My biggest problem is their ability to find the most technical of free kicks but rufuse to pay what I'd consider fundamentals of the game.

i.e. throwing the bloody ball

The other that's become a pet hate after half a round of football, is players that take on the tackler, get tackled, then either place the ball on the ground, drop or throw it.

Seriously, it's the easiest call to make as an umpire.

You're not referring to the blatant punch of the ball by goodes in the last quarter are you?

Yep, I watched the game...I wouldn't be saying what exactly? Apart from you personal abuse what do you mean?

Don't know, ask them.

Yes we got more frees but:
1. We didn't get them infront of goal as much, unless it was say a Sydney player getting their head ripped off.
2. It was near the end or when we were getting back into the game - changed the momentum alot. (this was evident in the rd 18 game too. I remember jesse white like touching a guy on the shoulder and it's a convenient free which took the ball away from the open 50 and into stks forward line.. Hell even in 2005 stk was favoured in the prelim)
3 obbvvviously the umpiring was poor both ways but sydneys just coincidentally got it at the worse times.
And another thing I noticed was that Sydney was off and the umpire called off the ball free kick, slowing play.

I'm not trying to say they were the reasons stk won, nor am I taking anything away from it. If anything it should be our crap kicking for goal, but the umpires made some very stupid decisions at the end of the game- which isn't their job to intervene just for the sake of it.
