Is North Melbourne passing on Logan McDonald going to be the 2021 version of the Bulldogs passing on Buddy for Ryan Griffin

He's not as good of a mark as what Lynch was/is.
He seems to be a bit more agile and gets more of his goals from linking up with his small forwards and midfielders opposed to consistently plucking contested marks.
I agree big contested marking is not his forte but that's not how I'd describe him at all. Larkey gets his goals from being very good body on body and reading the drop and acting accordingly. That's why (IMO) he's flown out of the blocks this year - we are getting the ball down there in ways that leave him one out more often which is his strength. We also have Comben running around hitting bodies and presenting which also means Larkey can't be sat and slowed down by multiple players.

His strength is his positioning, body use and he has a great brain for forward craft - that and being able to kick a football through the eye of a needle at 50 paces reliably.

Tom Mitchell 2.0, although I think Phillips definitely has a yard or two on Mitchell.

He ran a 2.93 20m in his draft year.

Knows he belongs now and is finally building some match fitness from what has been essentially a handful of games in 4 years when counting his mostly missed u/18 year.

Was this thread started by the same bloke that started the “will ldu ever live up to the media hype?”

You should get that guy to start a few more threads I reckon ;)

In fact, Hawthorn need a 2nd KPF so badly I might ask him to put up a thread about how bad Jacob Kochitzke is. Couldn't hurt?

Not enough helicopters.

I anticipated something like this would be coming and I really would prefer it didn't.

Obviously just a tongue in cheek comment so I needn't over react but this shouldn't be how he is remembered, especially by Hawthorn fans. IN 5 completed seasons, the guy won our B&F 3 times, never finished lower than 5th, was AA twice (squad another), won a Brownlow, was named MVP, was our best player and dragged us into top 4 in our only semi-competitive year. He also did this battling pretty severe injuries and aside from his double leg break season, only missed 1 game in his 6 years with us.

His disposal was mostly good (his poor ones blown way out of proportion) and the rest of his game was incredibly strong (most prolific ball winner in history). Had he been at the club during a stronger time, he would be adored by Hawthorn fans but because we were shite, we can't help but emphasise his weaknesses.

A 24 gamer should be honoured to be compared to Tom Mitchell.

I reckon the three you have look promising!

Larkey is going to kick another 40+ goals this year, an probably get into the 50’s for the first time. That said he needs another big bloke to help him and many north people will tell you he is not a no 1 key forward.

Comben looks really good but has had his injury concerns and who knows how he’ll get back from his leg injury.

CCJ is handy at best imo. He may improve but it’s far from certain.

Yep was tongue in cheek. Don't let Dom know or he will blow his gasket.

Mitchell before his broken leg was an animal. Relentless gut running and despite being a 'small' midfielder (compared to the land of giants we live in now) he had so much strength through the legs and hips to get the disposal free in contested situations. He wasn't slow either, at least in short bursts (he was never going to win a 100m dash). Had that extra yard of pace to break out of congestion and hit up targets. He was never going to cut you up with disposal but he wasn't a butcher. The perfect midfielder to have when you have two hard running wingmen in Smith and Henderson who were excellent penetrating kicks of the footy.

After his leg break he lost that yard of pace to get separation which resulted him going for those up and under hack kicks a lot more often. Didn't have the strength to bullock his way out either.

He is, that was my point

Mitchell is/was an absolute superstar.

If Phillips ends up anything close to his peak, we have done extremely well.

His last fornight is extremely promising.

Looking like a very very bad draft judging by the top 20 compared to other drafts.
I think that's fair. But it was the covid draft and they all seem to have taken forever to get going. If you look at the top twenty; none are guns yet, but most are regulars now. The only complete busts are DGB and Lachie Jones - maybe Macrae too.

Hasn't been too bad at the Pies. Some of his best numbers since 2018. Kicked goals as well. Not sure we could have asked for more.

Mitchell with people to give it to is a good player. 2018 Mitchell more dynamic. 2023 Mitchell who keeps it simple and shovels it out to the Daicos boys is a ripper.

He’s 21 and on track for 30 goals in a season. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. Not to mention he’s always contributing even when not kicking goals.

Having said that, I’d want to see a 50 goal season by the time he’s 23-24 to really say he’s on track to reach his full potential.
