Why so negative.?

I think a few teams were asking last year, including Adelaide.
Some clubs need inside grunt. And imv, Oliver is stale.. needs a fresh challenge, elsewhere.
I agree we should trade him , just don't think we will be able to unless we are kicking in on payments massively and getting nothing back. So he likely ends up staying, nothing left to do but hope he miraculously returns to fitness and form next year.

Regardless, I'm sure his fanclub will come up with another excuse for him if he doesn't.

I think it's time we took Oliver out of the team, and put him into a one month mini preseason.

Last week i posted that imv, we should not play kids until after the K/B game. I think going on the ladder position right now and witnessing this weeks game result. We should start looking to a quickie dip into the draft; a quick refresh of the list.
This means trading those who are questionably committed to the red & blue. ie; Oliver, Petty, Fritta. The only ones who are worth anything to other clubs, and what we don't build around.

We build around Viney, Gawn, Petracca, May, ANB, McVee, Rivers, Bowie, Windsor, Pickett,

Let's see, one year you say; but lets just consider the second half of 2022, and last year, where its as plain as the nose on anyone's face, that our off-field issues and attitudes stunk.

You think Oli wasn't a part of that stinking up.?

The whole club fell into an arrogant hole.
We wasted the past 2 seasons, which for us were crucial in our time-frame window.
And this season we can se in our inconsistencies, our list is struggling to maintain the hunger necessary to drive the standards which are required to be a true top 4 team.

Our A graders of the now is Gawn 32Yrs9mths; May 32Yrs4mths; Petracca 28Yrs4mths:..... then daylight
Well we finished top 4 two years running post flag. Oliver was AA in 22 and won the B&F. I am not going to put the onus on him and certainly not hypothetically entertain trading someone like that when it’s obvious our forward line has been non existent bar a BB purple patch in the 21 finals.

I am really sorry, but trading Oliver is not the answer.

Maybe we should seek trading with WC for Yeo.

Oliver for Yeo + WC's 1st Rnd pick. plus some divvying up some incidentals.
WC has plenty of salary cap space.

We would need someone to fill Oli shoes in the short term... while some kids need some time to learn the AFL caper.

0.00000000% chance west coast trade their first round pick. We aren't sniffing a top 3 pick for him.

That'd be hilarious, as it is we're struggling to kick ten goals a game.

AFL 2023 Round 11 Melbourne vs St Kilda

lets have a look at the replay... 2nd Qtr... starting at 1Hr-00m:41sec's, thru to 1Hr-1m:22secs, and just have a look at frittas effort. and compared to Mcadams 1st, 2nd efforts at the contest.

McAdam launched at the footy landing on his back, when fritta had decided early it wasn't for him. then McAdam got up &sprinted to tackle locking the footy in momentarily, then see Frittas lack of physical intensity at the next pressure moment as the Saints have the footy. Fritta allowed the footy out of the area... then following that, the saints have moved the ball to centre-wing and just watch ANB's run down pressure to cause a turnover back to us.

This is the sort of effort required to win big matches. Not what Fritta has consistently shown us mostly, over the past 2 years.

I'm really sorry ddavey...
I'll have to disagree with you. I think Oliver has been a big distraction.

Too often he has just won first touch only to flick out the ball, putting the next person in the chain under the pump. And he far too often does not carry the footy quickly by footy, out of the contest.

We struggle too often to get clear of the mid stoppage, when Oli is in this lazy mood.

Whatever the machinations... we need to get trading again to get a couple of early 1st Rnd picks again, as we did a few years back.

The only tradable's I se, are Oliver, Fritta, and possibly Petty. in that order.
Petty being the most needed by us, imv.

Salem, Chandler, Tomlinson, Rivers, Laurie, Spargo, what we can get

Oh ok, ‘sport’. One pretty average year from Oliver. Let’s throw the baby out with the bath water. If we are having the same conversation this time next year then I’ll grant you being correct.
2 average years. Amazing how the fan club just forgets things when they need too

We used to be ruthless at the trade table shipping off Watts, Tyson, Hogan ect

Now we are the complete opposite, someone has a rough time off field and we wrap our hands around them and tell them we love them while knocking back good deals. (Petty, Oliver).

All while signing plodders no other clubs want (Schache, Billings, Fullerton, Hunter).

Not really. The week before the team got roasted for being too defensive with not enough inside 50s. This week 100pts with 67 entries and they get roasted by the same people. We looked much more aggressive and lowered the eyes enough.

No one is saying we're gonna win the flag after beating the Saints. But we all wanted to see more attacking and more scoring, yet when we do it it's still moan and groan by some.
:$
Atleast it'll only take one mediocre performance for some to bounce back

What was the offer for Oliver? Petty just isn’t a forward. He is a defender.

Why don’t we just trade our entire club and pick the best players and personnel from 17 other clubs? Then we will win every week and win every flag and everyone will be super happy.

Fair to say things are not great at the moment and we’ve failed to move along some old timber (Brown, McDonald, etc) we’ve also got a coaching group that’s banked too much after our flag year and not innovated. If the club is serious they’ll gut the assistant coaching panel and issue a firm ultimatum to Goodwin. There’ll be some trades, sure, but given 3 years of minimal innovative approach to coaching I think that’s where it’d be prudent to start.

On Oliver, well he’s soon going to realise that average seasons and a big contract will mean nobody will take him on. What will get the best from him is the coaching and mentoring. It’s obvious the coaching connection is lost at Melbourne.
