Yeah but we’ve spent 91 consecutive blessed weeks in the top 10. I think we’ve been spoilt and I don’t mind it for reasons I don’t want to get into too much.
Robert Redford Nod GIF

Too often he has just won first touch only to flick out the ball, putting the next person in the chain under the pump. And he far too often does not carry the footy quickly by footy, out of the contest.

Sounds like its a coaching issue to me.

I have said it before that Goodwin's head is stuck up his arse with trying to hit his KPIs on his preferred analytics, such as I50s, scores from intercepts etc. Wouldn't surprise me if getting first touch is also on his bingo card.

Thank god we have someone that can win the ball because our mids can't defend when oppositon wins possession.

The only tradable's I se, are Oliver, Fritta, and possibly Petty. in that order.
Petty being the most needed by us, imv.

Petty being the most needed is a laugh. We have 10 weeks of exposed form and he barely looks like an AFL level footballer anymore. He has been cooked since his lisfranc injury. He was never going to come back 100% this year, and might not ever fully recover. As it stands right now, he has no business playing seniors.

I would have traded him the moment Adelaide came calling and let them carry the risk.

I can see the argument with trying to cash out some value with Fritsch. But if that happens then the club should have a serious discussion about trading out other players (May, Gawn et al) that don't fit our timeline and leaning right into a rebuild. We barely kick winning scores at the moment, and our offence will fall off a cliff without Fritsch.

I would't trade Oliver, I think he can get back to his best. The club mismanaged him by trying to play him into shape, he should have been kept on the sidelines until 100%. I also think it reflects poorly on the club to punt a bloke that is struggling with addiction and behavioural issues after they were enabling his vices and behaviour during the COVID hubs.

AFL 2023 Round 11 Melbourne vs St Kilda

lets have a look at the replay... 2nd Qtr... starting at 1Hr-00m:41sec's, thru to 1Hr-1m:22secs, and just have a look at frittas effort. and compared to Mcadams 1st, 2nd efforts at the contest.

McAdam launched at the footy landing on his back, when fritta had decided early it wasn't for him. then McAdam got up &sprinted to tackle locking the footy in momentarily, then see Frittas lack of physical intensity at the next pressure moment as the Saints have the footy. Fritta allowed the footy out of the area... then following that, the saints have moved the ball to centre-wing and just watch ANB's run down pressure to cause a turnover back to us.

This is the sort of effort required to win big matches. Not what Fritta has consistently shown us mostly, over the past 2 years.

I love Fritta but Jesus Christ he’s lazy as **** when it comes to pressuring and trapping the ball in the forward 50. Living off past glories and getting the cheap one out the back.

Salem, Chandler, Tomlinson, Rivers, Laurie, Spargo, what we can get
I want Chandler, I see him as a smart hardworking and skilled player, who will keep on improving year on year. He isn't our problem.
Rivers is a keeper......

Salem has gotten too slow, and isn't hitting targets by foot this year. trade if you reckon.
Tomlinson is only worth depth, so keep as is.
Laurie still can;t see what the coaches see.? slowish, but has footy IQ... is he quick enough and tough enough for AFL.?
Spargo has been overtaken by Chandler, because of his limitations, a real smart player but slow, and will never be tall.

Well we finished top 4 two years running post flag. Oliver was AA in 22 and won the B&F. I am not going to put the onus on him and certainly not hypothetically entertain trading someone like that when it’s obvious our forward line has been non existent bar a BB purple patch in the 21 finals.

I am really sorry, but trading Oliver is not the answer.
Our 22/23 finishes only showed the potential of our list as it was aging. but the drive was injured. distracted by past achievements can kill any team.

Social exploits have no place inside the club or team. Bigheaded protagonists - Fritsch. Oliver. Smith... and maybe just maybe, others are pissed off with the going attitude and want out back to SA.?

We used to be ruthless at the trade table shipping off Watts, Tyson, Hogan ect

Now we are the complete opposite, someone has a rough time off field and we wrap our hands around them and tell them we love them while knocking back good deals. (Petty, Oliver).

All while signing plodders no other clubs want (Schache, Billings, Fullerton, Hunter).
Exactly Micho... ruthless off field, and we were ruthless onfield.

------

...... and by the way. where has our aggression vanished to.? especially of last year, when one of our dearest was concussed.!!!

where was every one else flying our flag out there.

We covered this a fair bit. Nothing. But that’s just modern footy I guess.

Well some might say modern footy... it was at the start of a hugely important match in that season; and one of our key players was taken out.

And only one felt the passion to show his feelings about such an action. The rest showed a meek side, just as they played out that game.
......................

This is the whole point. We used to play on the edge, with passion, daring, and aggression at the ball, contest, and man.

Since those days, we have recruited the likes of langdon, hunter, billings, laurie, mcadam, scache, fullarton...

This imv, has diluted our courageous and hard edged list.

Witness what Scott over at essendon has done with that mob, getting them to play with more flair and tenacity.

Yes, but, it was a QF and we risked suspensions if we threw fists and got stuck into Maynard.

Langdon was huge in our flag year.

Essendon hasn’t won a flag for a while. Let’s just settle on them for the moment. They aren’t quite us of 2021.

Oh for a marking tall forward who has a dip.

exactly what were missing right now... a forward 2nd ruck.

and while your looking: check Jamars strong work in support of Pedo.

God i love Pedersen, but i remember him absolutely squibbing a mark in that round 1 2013 game

But yes would could use a prime pedersen right now

sorry guys for the delay.
Layed low with the Flu.

yep agreed, but I am confident he will get it right.

May/Gawn are the epitome of what you can build a club/team around. Culture

Trading Oliver.. at the least; he shouldn't be playing at all atmo... he isn't getting near it.
And isn't providing any real deefensive efforts.

next to useless at the moment.

I love Fritta but Jesus Christ he’s lazy as **** when it comes to pressuring and trapping the ball in the forward 50. Living off past glories and getting the cheap one out the back.

Spot on and he's another who should NOT be in this side.
The culture killer; is playing players who are not committing to the team ethos.
And yet are still played ahead of other up and comers, looking for a go.

Who mentioned throwing fists.
And surely if players threw fists... then the Pies would also lose players.

And they ended up premiers, from Brayshaw's deemise.

Sugar, you've made excellent use of the multi quote feature and I'm damn proud of you.

Apologising for the delay on his replies just as epic. What a gentleman!
