Is the AFL taking revenge on North via the draw?

What's the breakdown on that ... IE ... you're flogging some home games next year again no?

So how many home MCG? Then away MCG I'm presuming against Richmond, Collingwood ... and?
Melbourne have 10 home MCG games. One sold home game in Darwin.
4 away MCG games - Richmond, Hawthorn, Collingwood & Carlton.

its only a crap daw because they are North. victim mentality down there.

So I'm wondering why no-one from North is having a big sook about this whereas you and a number of other noted North trolls seem to be "complaining" or pointing out the inequity on our behalf. So who is playing victim here?

Whether or not North can eek out a small profit year to year (which is their "best case scenario", a small profit) other teams are making millions. Any club which isn't making millions will have a disadvantage due to off field money not being poured in. It's a simple thing to realize here.

The writing on the wall is 10 Victorian teams cannot be supported in the day and age where teams need millions of revenue from fans to be competitive. North and Melbourne are in the cross hairs at the moment because of this. If North and Melbourne can somehow bring in new AFL supporters (not take from the existing base) then they may have a chance of surviving by increasing the overall revenue base. Any money they take from existing supporters of AFL will be something that comes and goes with the wind.

Thats really sad that you count VFA preimerships
Either that or you got your info off Wikipedia or something and actually have no knowledge of your club.

North didn't have a choice. One of the main reasons North was not granted admission in to the VFL in 1896 is because Collingwood was terrified of them. Check your history.

Fantastic football draw, not so good financially. We'll just have to win some games and hopefully get a better draw next year :thumbsu:

Your logic is actually wrong here, it's not an extra $100k for home games, its more like - NOT losing $150k to gaining $100k - about a $250k turn around per game (talking low drawing interstaters).
From a purely football standpoint, the draw is not so bad, and we only play 2 teams from this years top 8 twice.

Wrong, you get an extra 100k, thats it. It is not a guarenteed profit of 100k. You lose 150k at the gate, you lose 50k after you get the extra 100k, its simple maths.. There was a guarenteed return but it was taken away by the AFL.

With your draw, you will make plenty of net losses in 2010 even with the new deal.

OH NOES! We have to wear another jumper. So we design another one. And make money off it.

...

Wrong again, do any North fans have the first clue about how the AFL works. You only receive the merchants mark-up on a 'new' jumper if it is brought via your club outlets. The actual branding royalty income goes directly to the AFL for all clubs and it forms part of their consolidated revenue which is then distributed to the clubs.

So if someone buys your new jumper at Rebel or an AFL store for example you get nothing from it.

Seeing as the OP insists this thread is 'funny', and instilling the fact that the morgpies are 'rich', it IS funny how it has not been able to bring more than 1 premiership in 50 years. Compared to North's 4 (premierships).

Actually, we do get what we wanted. So we don't get backpay. Wow.

We still make a profit this year.

If you count AFL hand-outs, yes you did. I bet the auditors still qaulify your statments on this basis ie dependent upon continued AFL funding.

North and a few other clubs are being utterly ripped off by the AFL and they get away with it because without their 'support' they cannot survive. Well with their 'support' they will never be masters of their own destiny either.

The whole Eithad arrangement is the greatest rip off of all time, I am just thankful that Collingwood is not paying of the AFL's loan and getting no equity or return for doing it.

Yep, you are correct re: $100k.

It is now up to us to win enough games to justify a decent commercial draw. I think the 2010 draw stands us in good stead to do just this.

Regardless, we will make a profit this year, and no doubt in 12 months we will again make a profit, and the ongoing debate about AFL handouts will continue.

It's not revenge, it's a natural outcome of scheduling that's severely compromised by the AFL's desire to maximise THEIR income.

North unfortunately are #16 in the pecking order of priorities.

Soon to be #18.

It won't get any better for them anytime soon.
Spot on.
North are very low on the priority list with the AFL.
If they want anything special, they better do it themselves.

Perhaps there's a timeslot over the weekend we could identify and spend a decade developing so it becomes the most lucrative property as regards attendances and TV rights?

I'd actually suggest this thread is a passive aggressive troll by a notorious North hater hoping the usual suspects will pile aboard . . .

He certainly knows his target market. :D

Sounds like jealousy to me, just because you guys have been the greatest chokers of the last half century and all use your pre WW2 challenge GF wins and those won by default to justify some sort of "greatness".

You could logically argue that in some years the VFA was a stronger competition then the VFL.

pfft

I'm quite happy to give the funding back in exchange for stand alone matches on Anzac Day* and Queens Birthday, and all the Friday night footy that collingwood gets.

(* 2010 being an exception)

Seriously people, I feel like I'm stuck in a friggen time-warp here. I mean seriously, another 6 pages of the topic "North struggles financially".

FACT: North have had a lot less money than other clubs since day dot.
FACT: People have been writing us off as a club for at least the last 25 years.
FACT: We are still here.

Get over it people.
