Absolutely

A question for everyone, how many pages in this mornings Sunday Times ( seven west - major sponsor)would you expect to be on the Eagles?

They got the backpack (understated back page) then 7 pages in 2 pages on the game.... worst game they have played ever...2 pages by their major sponsor. Nothing to see here.

They can tank as much as they like and nothing will come of it over here. Massive problem for the AFL.

Yes I agree with all that.

Point is, Simpson hasn’t got the drive anymore to re build and keep positive.

He’s no horse or Kenny who maintain their desire.

WC have basically zero prospects coming through the wafl team.
The cupboard is bare.

Let the coach go, trade off whoever wants to go and attack the draft and other teams rookies with aggressive trades is my advice.

Did the WAFL side this weekend only have two (2) AFL listed players?

The inability to have enough fit players to compete for selection was an OK excuse in the covid days, but in 2023 there is plenty wrong. & yes its an off field issue that MUST be FIXED ...

They’re not tanking. They are just rubbish.

Eh, history at the Eagles shows once a player gets to their 30's with all the travel they gotta do they fall off a cliff, which is why Hurn is our only 300 game player. It's like a triple decker of horribleness that our over 30's are close to million dollar players, who've fallen off a cliff AND often get medium/long term injuries after playing a couple games.

Why do Freo have more 300 game players then?

I feel bad for Harley Reid.
Gets to spearhead the richest, most well supported club in the league with the best stadium and will have his initial contracts nicely front loaded while we properly bottom out. Then will have a job/business contacts for life post playing career should he remain a one club player.

Pretty sure he'll be right. 👍

Generous of you to think that we actually need to tank.

The MCG must be bad for the health of players also, go see how many Melbourne has.

Any other excuses?
If none of you have read the new book Footballistics by the excellent James Coventry, you absolutely should.

This is an excerpt of a chapter on travel and home ground advantage. They use disposals as a proxy for performance, for all players post 1987 who played for teams in one state for their career.

"The results are striking. Players' career trajectories are broadly similar across borderlines until they approach the 200-game mark. Western Australian and Victorian players, for example, follow a virtually identical arc up until that point. But beyond that, the average disposal counts for Western Australian- and Queensland-based players fall off a cliff, while those of their South Australian and Victorian counterparts barely decay at all. Players from New South Wales decline a little later and from a higher level than the Western Australian and Queenslanders. The picture looks much the same if we restrict the comparison only to those who play at least 200 games. The average output of Western Australian and Queensland players declines earlier and more rapidly than that of their counterparts from the other states, particularly Victoria and South Australia.

....

It is possible that the tendency for Western Australian players to have shorter careers, and for their performance to decay more quickly, is just a quirk or statistical anomoly that will eventually work itself out. But with more than 30 seasons of interstate competition now in the AFL/VFL history books, it seems more likely that the late-career woe of Western Australian players is real, and that travel is the probably culprit."

why dont you lot worry about your own teams?

To be fair they all have a lot less to worry about. We are the only club in the league that are a rabble and no one in the club is being accountable for it. So it ends up a pretty big talking point why there is no action to the massive problems at our club.

Yep and that's discussion for our page from our Supporters, I don't buy in on if Stewy Dew needs the sack and set up a thread about it.
