We are where we belong. For as bad as West Coast are - they are still better than us. You could even mount an argument that we are actually worse in 2023 than 2022 and 2022 was record setting rock bottom.

Not sure about that. As bad as 2023 has been, we could easily have won an extra 4-5 games - our % has gone up 13 and we're at least scoring, despite a pretty torrid run with injuries.

The Noble tenure in 2022 was as bad as I think I've seen.

Yeah, we've largely been a lot more competitive a lot more often in 2023 vs 2022, but 2 wins are 2 wins. We also didn't lose 20 in a row last year like we have this year, and I'd wager to say that our win last year vs Richmond was more impressive than anything we've shown this year.

3rd spoon, sort of means were closer to the end of the worse period, even if we get the spoon next year we are presently 3 quarters through...

Of course if we get another spoons all the above is wishfull thinking

Not as bad as 22. We have shown some really good patches of footy this year. Unfortunately cannot keep it up for four quarters. But it will turn. Patience my friend.

I'd wager some on here have forgotten how bad 2022 was.

The main problem with us is the lack of improvement and lack of prospect of future improvement.
Celebrating losing is a culture killer, can't see us getting out of the bottom 2 any time soon.

We've definitely hit rock bottom. Got a feeling the performances will get much better drastically next year with more young talent coming in. It could be worse. If we were a top 8 side and lost to West Coast, that would truly be the lowest point. Losing to Brisbane in 2014 sorta rock bottom.

Pretty much. This season, while crap, has at least consisted of periods of competitive football in most games. 2022 got to a point where we would go long periods without even getting it inside 50, and most games were done by quarter time.

If you take the last four rounds of 2021, the only thing stopping a 21-game losing streak was that WC side that was half WAFL top-ups.

Yes.

This is rock bottom.

3 spoons in a row is historically bad. It is unfathomable how we could sink lower than here.

There is no joy in football.
Sadly, this is true. Shameful place to be in for our club. Spin it anyway you like, we are at rock bottom.

I was at the WAFL game last year as well as every other home game and replacement game. It was not fun viewing.

We legitimately couldn't find a target just beyond the flanks and would turn it over either from our defensive 50 or bomb it long to an outnumber. It took Adams throwing everything into the bin to get us to show something which speaks volumes to the coaching efforts of the mob before Clarko.

Just from watching the games this year from the stands, it has been better in all aspects. You don't see it on TV as much but it's obvious we're doing things differently. Larkey has been scoring more consistently without another key forward option which was non-existent last year even with Zurhaar playing for most of the year. We experimented a lot this year with some players coming in, coming out, and trying different lineups in the middle.

It's still been a shocker of a year, but it's only upwards from here.

Agree.

Relative to expectations, this year has been far worse than 2022. We had a new respected off field structure, some decent mature recruits via draft assistance, 2 highly acclaimed draft picks and a very favourable draw. This was year 4 of the rebuild - things were expected to improve and expectations were very much for 6 wins or so including a couple of respected scalps. In 2022 we still had Noble - and Armafio - involved in football decisions and no one really expected any success in that environment so beating Richmond was a real nourishing achievement.

The obvious 'shocker' this year is that we have dropped 20 games in a row - that stat sort of just rolls off the tongue now - that's how bad things have become. However far worse than that is that other so called weaker clubs have improved strongly this year - so the gap between the bottom 2 and them has grown - not narrowed. The idea that we could realistically compete for the 8 remains miles off - just as it did last year.

And btw - we would want to play WC at home early next year or this losing streak could end up beating that of the 1930's. I would like to see people claim how we have 'improved' if that was to happen.

We arrived when Jason Horne Fabian wanted out, after Al was found to be a paid up member of the KKK 🙄.

We started our way up with the emergence of Harry & George. Then we saw glimpses of what Steady Eddie Ford can do or be.
Larkey kicks 60 plus goals. Zurhaar gets some midfield time. TT wanders back and shows that he’s our most skilled footballer.

Now I come across as negative at times , but I do also see the positives. Just not as much as some lol.

Also George has people at the club salivating with what he’s showing at training. Has explosive pace away from the contest. That should be music to our ears. That is the modern game.

I understand your point, but if we finish 9th next year I'll be ecstatic.
9ths ok if you have set in place the key pillars of your rebuild, but if you are in a rebuilding phase, 9th is absolute no man’s land.

We aren’t finishing 9th next year. We will be bottom 4 again.

We need the best kids we can get our hands on at the moment, so I don’t really have any issue finishing last.

Let’s be honest, West Coast have won a game more than us, but look at their percentage. Other than ladder position, I would hardly say they have had a better year than we have.

I'd wager some on here have forgotten how bad 2022 was.

And ignored the incremental improvement we have had.

I mean we're still shithouse but we are less shithouse.

2022 book mark us for a 10 goal loss.
2023 book mark us for a 3-4 goal loss.

2024 we might actually win more than 2 games.

I wouldn't wish either of our years on 16 other clubs.
