With no McKay, Logue & Zeibell, I just wonder if we could be in for more serious pain in 2024?

Seriously, who will take the BIG forwards?

Sure, we may improve in other areas, but if our midfield can't get AFL fit, we are going to concede some big big scores.

We didn’t have ziebell and Logue for round 24 with McKay not really having a massive influence. We will be fine

Nah, guys like Tex, Hawkins, Cameron, Daniher, Hipwood, Hogan, Naughton, Curnow etc.

Seriously, who takes these guys next season?

I am sure the brains trust has been working the phones overtime since Logue went down

Something will happen in the next 2 months

You're right. To stifle the Suns forward line in Tazzie who were operating at 5% intensity all over the ground is a very good sign. No need to be concerned.
You keep saying that but Anderson, Rowell, and Miller were not exactly on holiday. They just got pantsed by the blokes in our team that you don't rate.

We arrived when Jason Horne Fabian wanted out, after Al was found to be a paid up member of the KKK 🙄.

We started our way up with the emergence of Harry & George. Then we saw glimpses of what Steady Eddie Ford can do or be.
Larkey kicks 60 plus goals. Zurhaar gets some midfield time. TT wanders back and shows that he’s our most skilled footballer.

Now I come across as negative at times , but I do also see the positives. Just not as much as some lol.

Also George has people at the club salivating with what he’s showing at training. Has explosive pace away from the contest. That should be music to our ears. That is the modern game.
Great post Tao as you say you do come across negative on occasions but then you post a ripper like this and i have to forgive you all over again ha ha.

Negative at times? FFS TAO you're so negative if you stood next to Tony Robbins you'd make a battery.

Ha very clever. Well I’m never narky about Larkey Or cranky at Cam.
LDU I may have given a few.

Hasn’t been many positives the last 20 odd seasons. lol But good news I do expect a lot of improvement next season. Hopefully the likes of Phillips, Powell,Comben, CCJ and Xerri show further growth.
Watching us lose or loose every week is disheartening.

Oh I hear you, the bad times have certainly outweighed the good particularly of late. I expect a lot of improvement next season too. I'm looking forward to seeing the new & improved TAO when we turn the corner, fewer of the sh*tmen posts, and more of the, sh*t man how good was that win.

I’m strangely optimistic about next year. Am I wrong to be? 🤷🏻‍♀️
Yeah i think so. Losing McKay, Cunners, Goldy & Zeibell is a lot of experience to lose in one hit. Logue will miss most of the year meaning Corr & Dawson are our key defenders - scary thought. If our midfield can't get AFL fit & apply AFL standard pressure on opposition midfields, next season could get ugly.

We have some picks and trades remember. Clarko will sort out the backline. I believe!!

Uglier than the last few?

In a way the senior players we've lost haven't exactly been amazing the last few years (Cunners is an exception bloke almost won the game for us)

If anything, the side should get better. That backline was too old, slow and reactive this year. Barely enough creativity without Goater, Bergs, Scott, Sheezel rotating through there.

Could we throw Chom and Greenwood to defence?

As much as I loved the likes of Ziebs, Cunners, Goldy and Hall even to a less we degree, they are hardly modern footballers.

Dare I also question the celebrations of Cunners as a player and the way his inability to run was downplayed and almost laughed off. This frustrates me given what the bloke was paid to play. He could have become a significantly better rubber, pre-cancer, had he had been obsessive about it. What would that have looked like for him and the club given his ability.

Ziebell due to injury would have been lucky to have completed a full pre season in 7-10 years and Goldy being an introvert was probably not the greatest role model for leadership either.

None of them were Pendlebury/Selwood/Cotchin/Hodge types and I wonder the effect this had on driving standards in the group.

With a new lease of life and some new leaders that are prepared to set standards at another level, it may be exactly what is required to take things to another level.

I get Adelaide of 2022 vibes perhaps about this squad, where they started the year like a bolt from the blue but faltered as the year progressed.

I’m optimistic about where we might be headed next year, the new broom has swept 🧹 out the old. Let’s see what this looks like in 6 months.

There have been many lows recently but the one that has stuck with me is the Geelong game 2023.

They bullied our midfield, they were in front on the scoreboard by a mile, then they swapped out their mids and started putting random players in at the bounces. Never seen shit like that before. And to top it off they were laughing on field.

It was utterly disrespectful, it was unprofessional, shortsighted, but also very embarrassing. All the while C Scott with his oily slicked back hair, self reborn as Gandalf the ****ing wise, was grinning in box.

Getting beaten up is not uncommon, but being actively mocked like that on live tv is truly bottom of the barrel stuff.
You could sense the commentators felt uneasy. They had their say and contributed, but also held back.

The fact that this was the same team we kicked a total of one goal against a couple years earlier compounds my hatred.
At the time of that one goal game - "oh no one's going to remember it" some on here said.
"it wasn't as bad as the opening game against freo" others said.

wrong, it was worse and I remember it. It's the epitome of our low years.

Fk JHF and his dad - i'm over that. Fk essendon - they're a basketcase worse than us.
It's this arrogant ****wad of a team full of chads that i want to own for many years to come.

Beating them is where we finally kick the "barrel" and the healing begins.

Rock bottom for me playing wise was Geelong in 2022.

At quarter time it was 23-19 the Cats way. McKay was playing up forward.

Hawkins kicked 2 in the 2nd quarter and they lead by 5 goals at half time, no moves from the coach. McKay still in the forward line

Hawkins kicks another 3 in the 3rd quarter and at the 21 minute mark of the 3rd quarter when we are 52 points down the coach moves McKay onto Hawkins.

We lost by 12 but Hawkins only kicked one more.

To me its been better on field since then, a very low base I know

I hope that when we beat all these sides that have large winning streaks against us, it's something like the margin of the match against Hawthorn in 1994 when we hadn't beaten them for 9 years. I was too young to see that but it looks like the team took out a decade of frustration on them all at once. 127 points was the final margin. I hope the boys are making mental notes of all the teams that have made them look like fools for so long.

We owe Geelong, Essendon, Port, Bulldogs and Sydney the most.

Oh yeh

Flogging Hawthorn and beating up * in that 93 game was gold

There was a classic game in 1990 where we smashed the Tigers on a Friday night and I smashed myself because you could drink full strength….Fosters Lager…💩…of which I had many

At least we've got Biggy & Pink now. And we can even swing Chom back if needed.
