At least you aren't haunted by the vision of Wallis being run down. That's basically the only on-field football memory I have, along with Lockett's point up until about 2000-2001.

Despite listening to it live on the radio, I still have that vision instilled in my memory. Unfortunately, I've seen the footage enough .
The amount of times I've replayed it in my head, trying to change that ridiculous decision to take Brown(?) on...

Definitely. The Carlton game was the best game I've ever been to but this tops it. Simply because we had to come behind and kick 3 goals with less than 5 minutes left. I was screaming for them to kick it to the player. I was right behind the goals up top so I could see everything. I was shouting for Lovett to keep running through the center when he went for for Jetta. It was awesome composure then.

And again a minute or so later.

I was going absolutely nuts when Dyson kicked that goal. Then I thought we had the game in the bag when it was kicked to Jetta and the Collingwood player slipped over. Then he ****ed up and I thought it was all over.

Then Zaharakis kicked the goal off one foot and the whole stand was dancing. I didn't hear the siren until everyone else had jumped up.

Best feeling at a game ever.

Ive been going to the matches for a long time and as far as emotion goes this one is pretty hard to top. I went to the Carlton game and came away hoarse from all the cheering but I think this one managed to top it.

Other games that stand out for me are the Essendon-Melbourne match where Essendon came back from 47 points down in the last quarter and the 1993 preliminary final.

I was more pumped during the last quarter against Carlton a couple week's back than I was for today's last quarter.

The first Anzac Day match was incredible, but got to agree with that loss to Carlton

Haha. I'd be pretty embarrassed if I couldn't remember my best mate at 7. My earliest AFL memory is Collingwood 1990, at age 6, strangely enough.

I had written them off and was just glad when Jetta goaled to reduce the margin to 8 points because I thought we deserved a close margin, next thing I know, from nowhere, the boys have done it.

I have never been prouder of a team effort before, that is for sure. With Hill out in the first minute and McVeigh a late withdrawel and then Lonergan and Lloyd virtually imobile after half-time, plus two days less rest than Collingwood, I still don't actually know how the boys did it. They were dead on their feet halfway through the last quater, the game was frickin over. How did they do it?

mate, i dont know what you are on about.

as a 7 year old i had the touring 1 day teams memorised in 86/87 and could tell you the batting line up of every team.

i remember games of league from then and i can still remember the pain i felt when as a 5 year old the eels beat the bulldogs in 86. i was cut.

The Collingwood and Carlton games where we were seemingly out of the contest, reminds me a little of late 90's where we were always a chance of winning and never gave up no matter what the score was.

I sensed on Sat and against Carl for the first time in a long time, that that respect and fighting spiri is slowlly returning to EFC.

Of course beating Coll and the circumstances with the win was a magnificent feeling as well.

Ridiculous that we let both slip. Ridiculous that Lockett could make the distance with a very dodgy hammy. Ridiculous that Sheedy's pet Wallis couldn't just bomb it long.

Interesting stat that both of North's premierships were against teams that beat us by 1 pt in a prelim. While we would have lost in 96, we would have won in 99.

Sorry I didn't google the ANZAC winner and Hirdys day out vs. the Eagles. I was able to correct myself as to the actual winner and the fact of how close Laycock was to the medal also said that it was around the time of the Hirdy incident 12 months isn't exactly an eternity I made that statement after remembering Hirdy had a decent game himself at ANZAC '04.

I still find it hard to believe a 21 year old can remember how emotional a loss was 14 years on as it's much easier for a fifty year old to recall memories from his teenage years than a 30 year old to remember his pre-teen years as the brain hasn't developed the tools to comprehend all the required functions in the pre-teen years. But if you can good for you.

As far as emotion goes, like many, I will be forever scarred by the 99 prelim. I think i can actually admit to myself, that I find it difficult to get along with carlton supporters, as people, as a result of the game! haha

For me the comeback against Adelaide in 93 would have to be up there.

99 against Carlton is easily the worst. Was at the game with mates who supported Carlton.

07 against WCE where we won by the point was massive mostly because of the comeback and the fact that the Dome is absolutly ****ing amazing when you have 50k supporters from the one team going nuts when the roof it on. Absolutly amazing atmosphere. Was there with my little brother too, great to share that atmosphere with him.

I nearly jumped through the window on sat though because I was so excited when Dyson kicked that goal. I'm sure it would be close to top if I was at the game.

The GFs were great, but the 93 one I was still a bit young and sort of took it for granted, while the 2000 was more what the team deserved rather than a thrilling match. Good to wash 99 out of the system, though.

Obviously being a die hard fan everything is emotional for me when it comes to the dons. Heres a list of my footy lifes emotions!

I'm so die hard i went to see Essendon play hawthorn in 92 when we got beat by 150ish points...then i came home and watched the full replay id taped!

I was 7 when we won back to back in 85, but cant remember a lot of emotions, the kid next door was hawthorn,....i made fun of him after the game then he threw his bike at me, we didnt speak for a few days til mum made us talk at the melbourne show.

in 89 we smashed geelong in a final and i rememeber waving a flag in the cheer squad and laughing when madden bounced down the wing...then geelong smashed us back to get into the gf, still i dont recall alot of emotions, (but i remember thinking we would have beat hawks in the gf that year)

i remember being high on emotion when essendon beat collingwood at waverly in the first ever live on tv home and away game in 1990..bomber thompson made a smother in the goal square to save the game in the last few secs.

i remember hating the gf loss in 90, i wasnt emotional at all..just angry cause i hated collingwood fans and hated those tshirts with the magpie shitting on the bomber.

Went to every game in 93, huge shivvers down the spine when salmon kicked the goal v west coast to win the game and sheedy waved his jacket...thats real high on my most emotional games!

Same in the 93 prelim, when we were comming back and mercuri kicked a goal to bring us closer, thats the LOUDEST crowd cheer ive ever heard!, even on the replay the microphone muffled!

the gf week rocked!...spent the best ever few nights sleeping over at windy hill for tickets, mucking around at windy hill then watched wanga win the brownlow from the social club and he came back that night to sign stuff..was surreal..the gf was a bit of an anti climax..i was so exhausted, i cheered like hell anyway.specially when wallis knocked out hanna infront of us!.

95 final against richmond hurt like hell..up by a heap at half time and they came back and made us look stupid.

96 had shivvers watching bewick come back from a knee reco to kick 8 against geelong in the centenary game...specially that goal in the pocket when cummings was screaming for it.

then the pain began.... pure agony when wanga hit the post in the final at brissy--i can still see that blonde girl in the stand clapping ..i wanted to smash her while robbo said 'what an unbelievable ending to a game...'

was hugging strangers the next week when we ran all over wce and hird kicked the goal from full back when sheeds told him to stay there and be safe!...doolan got over 30 possessions!..im sure he has that game on tape!

next week ...first time id shed a tear watching a game..we dont need it recalled but i did think blumfield could have put his body infront of lockett. I and im sure all of you felt like bewick after the game, hand up to face staring..at those turds piling on top of each other.

fast forward..second time i cried..from behind sunnies this time, 99 pre lim, right behind the goals 3rd level ponsford stand, perfect view of brown taking down wallis...what a twat! another image burnt into my mind, murphy holding the ball aloft when the siren went......after sitting there for 10 mins while that damn song played over and over i got to my car to find it draped in blue and white streamers. nuff said.

funnily enough 2000 had no emotion whatsoever..it all felt so easy and enevitable, even at the gf, i cheered and drank, but it just felt like another game, the only time i got up to get a beer i missed out on long crunching symmonds and missed the fight..typical.

3 shivvers down the spine moments in 01...the game v nth where we came back, WOW then the week later when we came back from the dead in the last to beat sydney with a wobbly alessio kick..double wow! finally that prelim v hawks is one of my fav games!..what an 80s style finals classic...injuries everywhere, war of attrition....the were comming hard at us and croad has a kick from 60, its a goal all the way until it swings and hits the post, thats nearly the loudest ive cheered after any moment!
then barnard with the huge off break to seal it..cool game.

once again the gf felt subdued, didnt feel alot of emotion, just dissapointment a spose.

i sent a few years over seas and missed the next few seasons, but came back and 2 games stick out...beating wce at the dome last year, and syd in syd..both times i was shakng, heart pumping like a hammer--easily the most emotional ive been- until the carlton game a few weeks back, the ryder tackle!!!!....the anzac game didnt top it but it had me out of my chair thats for sure!! any more of this kinda stuff this season and ill go mental...we better have a highlights dvd this year...we needed one last year and it didnt come out.

as far as the topic, i'm going to nominate the 2001 prelim final too.
it seemed like our dominant journey was going to end prematurely. but luckily we could hold out against the old 80s rivals. . . little did we know it would finish much worse, just a week later!

1999: Preliminary Final, i was only 14 and cried after we lost.

Was the exact same age and did the same thing. In fact the 3 games I can remember crying after was the 96' final against Brisbane when Wanganeen it the post with a snap shot in the forward 50, and then 2 weeks later when Plugger kicked the behind. I actually remember crying before he even kicked the ball. I was 10 and knew that we were going to lose. Absolutely shattered. But nothing beats the 99" Prelim against Carlton. I listened to the game on the radio and I will never forget it. I have seen the replay since then and it was hard to watch. I remember after the siren went I ran outside and started kicking plants in the front yard )) Shattered and that loss will always stick with me. Everytime we play Carlton I want to beat them by a point.

But that win on Saturday was surreal. I felt like it didn't actually happen. 3 quick goals, the siren, pouring down with rain, ANZAC day, sitting in the essendon members section with thousands of people going delirious. Someone said it earlier, but that is one of those natural high's that is extremely rare to get. Unbelieveable.
