You mean just like Netanyahu and his crew are de-escalating the conflict by pretty much wanting to wipe out Gaza? Truth is that neither side looks like de-escalating this conflict any time soon.

This is a mischaracterisation.

The publicly state aim has been to wipe out Hamas, not Gaza. The two things are not the same.

Given what has just gone down an entirely reasonable declaration to make.

Correct. Has to be a typo surely, because surely nobody would actually think Israel wouldn't have wiped out Gaza already if they truly wanted to?

Hamas probably hiding behind civilians though

Probably?

See, the West were so emboldened that they thought they could divide a land that didn't belong to them. Shows how deep Western supremacy is in the West.

The United Nations Resolution 181 recommended the partition of Palestine into Jewish and Arab states (along with an international zone encompassing Jerusalem and Bethlehem).
I wonder why they didn't divide Germany and give them a piece of that land given what Germany did to the Jews there.

I would have thought the answer to that was obvious.

Hamas are very difficult to eliminate because of Gaza's population density and their preferred tactic of firing on Israel from behind civilians.

The only real way to remove Hamas (and to me that's the first step in peace between Israel & Palestine) is for a revolt from the good people of Gaza that suffer because Hamas leadership rapes and pillages their state's wealth for their own pleasure. Hamas know a two state solution would end their straglehold on Gaza. Hamas also were not happy with the US brokering a peace deal between Saudi Arabia & Israel which now is dead in the water with the Saudis predictably backing Hamas even though they are supported by Iran who the Saudis also hate.

Hamas knows this and that's why so many Gazans are killed / tortured by them just for not toeing the company line. Maybe, just maybe the horrors of what Hamas has committed recently is enough for all Gazans to stand up and say enough is enough. If there's a revolt en masse Hamas will try and extinguish it but ultimately won't be able to.

The backdrop to this all is Qatar just last week brokered a deal between Israel & Hamas to allow Gazans more travel to and from Gaza to Israel. That was taken advantage of immediately by Hamas and the fact that was organised by Hamas leaders residing in Qatar is telling - with help from Iran. No matter what side of the conflict one may be on that must be absolutely condemned.

The only winner out of that is Hamas leadership in their luxury Qatari villas and the main loser out of that is innocent Gazans who now lose the opportunity to travel to Israel for vital healthcare and / business opportunities.

Tbf, the Taliban is the government in Afghanistan now. I don't think we really should be providing them with aid

So civilians in Afghanistan can die because of who their government is?

Excellent synopsis.

In opinion polls, more Israelis favour a Jewish state than Palestinians support a Palestinian state.

The survey found that support for a two-state solution sank precipitously from September 2020. Palestinians prefer a two-state solution over a Palestinian-dominated state 33-30 percent, while Israeli Jews prefer a Jewish-dominated state over the two-state solution 37-34 percent

So if there's a population which wants the other one gone more, it's the Israelis.

Much as Hamas's stated goal is genocidal, it doesn't have popular support. Meanwhile, Israel has been actively undertaking Ethnic cleansing in the West Bank with the support of nearly everyone outside the Arab world.

that's why Israel have declared war on Hamas, and not Palestine.

Thats what all terrorists do. They hide behind civilians so they can't just be wiped out easily.

I would have thought the answer to that was obvious.
United Nations was formed in San Fransisco, California. That’s all I need to know about them.

About the answer being obvious, I agree. It is obvious, which is why I said it. If Europeans couldn’t even stand living near non-threatening Jewish people, I wonder if they’d accept in their homeland what Palestinians are subjected to now. Hmm, I think not.

Whats the fact it as formed in San Fran have to do with anything?

What kind of stupid statement is that?

Bullshit. Innocent children and citizens that are dying are not part of ‘Hamas’.

They’re intending to wipe out Gaza as we know it today, whether the casualties include Hamas militants or not.

It shows that United Nations is a Western concept that puts a ‘moderate’ spin on Western interests.

Dividing Palestine was never in Palestinian’s interest, so it’s no surprise that United Nations was involved in that.

50 different countries attended it and agreed to it.

out of the 4 main current leaders of the UN, only one has a part western heritage.

  • Portuguese
  • Trinidad & Tobago
  • Bulgarian
  • British & Nigerian.....

You are oversimplifying one element of the UN and then using that to degrade the entire thing.

Utter stupidity.

The United Nations position is actually that Israel are illegally holding that land. At least thats the last i read about it.

Why do Jewish schools in Australia need security guards?
Why are Jewish people in Australia warned not to go to certain places for their own safety?

They have nothing to do with Israel.

Its sickening how this has been allowed to fester for so long.
Why do gated communities in the USA need security guards? because there is an imminent threat or because they want it?

And where are Jewish people warned not to go?

This is reductionist and paints a false narrative.

An almost negligible higher % of Jews want a one-state solution in comparison to Palestinians. Ok. Do those Jews support the complete genocide of Palestinians? Conversely, how many of the opposite side do? There's no moral equivalence.

Hamas was voted in by the people of Palestine. That doesn't mean they all support the genocide of Jews, but it does say a whole lot about their underlying views. The same can't be said about a majority of Jews in Israel with a straight face.

Are you suggesting it’s because members of the left want to harm Jews? That is quite a leap.

Most people who are opposed to Israel is because its an apartheid state, Hamas on the other hand want to not only remove Israel but all Jews as well.

"Israel declare war on Hamas..." - I didn't know they were at peace last week?!

Anyway usually with Arab - Israeli wars, Israel wins and with a kill ratio of at least 5:1, so Hamas are totally screwed. Just a matter of time.

Is anyone (extreme Muslims aside) actually against Israel?

Israel has a right to exist. And so does Palestine.

Not all members but there are definitely parts of the Socialist Left and the Greens that are Anti-Semetic. And its time they were called out on it.

Exactly, I’ve seen no one claim otherwise in this thread.

Just some strawman arguments from some people who think any pointing out about this history of the situation and that Israel have been illegally occupying Palestine areas is somehow anti semetic.

They haven't had elections since 2006.
