If I were purple or addicted to ice, I'd be writing to my local member of state parliament and telling the WA State Government to pull their friggin finger out and build a new stadium. WA can't be spending too much money on anything else (no Grand Prix, no good museums or gallerys, no heritage restorations, no gardens to mainting etc.) and they must be rich from all the mining contracts that are coming in.

Get your premier to realise that you're sports mad, and rebuild Subiaco into a 70,000 capacity stadium with decent facilities. If Melbourne can build an indoor 50,000+ state of the art stadium, while already operating and rebuilding a 90,000 megastadium, i'm sure your government could get it done

Mate, you are in the money. Over here it doesnt matter if Labor or Liberal, we have a shitty choice of politicians - there is no foresight, and our successive governments have always failed to get busy on building infrastructure. We suffer from planning constipation to be honest, and it drives most of us mad.
Yes, we apparently have coffers full of funds over here - but I cannot understand why they just don;t get on with it and just build a bloody decent stadium.. and at least 80k to 95k.... why so big - Derbys will pull the crowds , but also with international games like the Wallabies or perhaps with the word that Audtralia is going to put in a bid for the 2016 Football World Cup it would be nice to be prepared and have a state of the art stadium ready to go.

Subiaco Oval is a disgrace. I refuse to pay $550 a year to watch 11 games in a 3rd world facility. I will only return to football in WA when we have a new stadium one that I will be proud to call a home ground

Yeah i wouldn't go this year either, seeing as though theres no footy games till '08!

The last time I went to an AFL game was in 2006 and that wasn't even an Essendon game (Round 12, 17 June: Fremantle v Geelong) and I only went because I got the ticket for free.

Obviously living in Perth is the reason why I don't go to 21/22 games a year but the Essendon games played here, well, if I wanted to go to the West Coast game I'd have to buy an Essendon membership to get a ticket and I don't think it's worth paying $100 for a crap seat at one game plus a fridge magnet, and as for the Fremantle game, well, I must admit missing that one is largely due to laziness on my part but when the game is going to air on FTA on only a 30/60 minute delay and you're not exactly made of money spending $30 to sit in a so-so seat doesn't sound that appealing :p

Would seeing Lucas kick 7 in a quarter in Hird / Sheedy's last match ever have been worth $100?

Therefore your opinion is irrelevant.
If IPL wants total control over a clean billion dollar stadium, (and all the revenues that that can generate), don't expect taxpayers to pay for it, build it themselves.

well since WCE have reached membership limits and all their home games are sold out, i'd say they're not too worried at this stage.

Isn't this the perfect reason to build a new stadium? I mean theres more money to be made here with a bigger and better stadium. Its the old addage of supply and demand and currently supply is lacking.

Another example of how soft people are these days.

Don't you just love the modern football supporters? They want their players to be tough but the supporters have to be pampered in order to enjoy the game. I'd love to see how you would have managed in the 1960s when "facilities" meant a toilet in the outer.

I lived in perth for 10 years, its true, subi is a shithole and so is perth for that matter (no offense perthies)

its funny how WA is one of the wealthiest states yet has such third world culture.

all that money and a what do they have to show for it a crap casino, crap stadium, a crappy 10million dollar bell tower and a crappy train track to crappy rockingham. did i mention i think perth is crap?

If ticket prices remained at 1960's levels, then you might have a point. But they haven't. Membership and ticket prices have steadily increased... I don't think it's unreasonable for patrons to expect the quality of the grounds to increase too.

I will worry about that when the time comes. Pity really WCE & FFC should sue the WAFC for restraint of trade. This small stadium is costing them dollars

The WAFC own WCE and FFC.

Great post :thumbsu:

I mean thank God we get those handouts for our crap stadium deal. Imagine if we were stuck with something like Telstra, I mean sure, we could fill it every week (with just our own members) and make even more money than we do but we would lose those handouts.....

.... how much are they again?

;)

I lol'ed :thumbsu:

The rest of Australia steal our wealth

garbage. I prefer to watch Amateur footy on suburban grounds then attend the shithole that is Subi

Economics play a part, but ultimately, the stadium and transport ruin any spectacle. It's much better to watch from home or a pub

Because labour prices in Perth are driving the project prices up - look at the tunnel and the furore that has caused cos it cost more than when they did the estimates. If they commit to a stadium now at $1 billion, by the finish it will be $1.5 - $2 billion and the masses will bitch once again- the government is on a hiding to nothing. The Fiona Stanley hospital is a good current example. In the 2 years of planning, its price has gone up $600 million. And they haven't even put a bulldozer on site.

And because governments are only in office 3 years, they dont like to commit to such projects as they cost them votes when budgets blow out. Nature of the beast.....

But I agree they need to put a new stadium in place pronto. The old power station site opposite Belmont race course would have been perfect, except they made it into a crappy museum that nobody knows or cares about instead of demolishing it.

To steal a line from american dad ... "Whooo here come the hyperbole police" ....

I suppose it's easy to miss footy when you only go to watch fremantle, not exactly hard to give up as you wont miss anything exciting.

Won't be going to the football until 2013 then?

ps. I'd rather the Gov sort out our hospitals before they spend cash on a new stadium.
