Scape Goat I've lost my faith in Ken Hinkley Part 2

It could just be me but I'm getting some major hubris vibes from Ken. Especially in how he chose to answer the co-captaincy questions in the lead up to the announcement. It's going to be a long 2 years (he won't last 3).

If the team bombs out this year and is a bottom 6 side, I'd be surprised if Ken is here in 2020. The club can't afford to back him in for 2020 given the 150th year of the club if he has a shocking 2019; even if it means paying out 2 years of his deal. If such a scenario would happen this year, keeping him for 2020 could potentially be even more costly than paying the last two years of his contract out.

Even at a conservative estimate on his contract extension, there’s absolutely no way the club could afford to pay him $1,000,000 ($500k x 2 years), let alone the $750k-$1,000,000pa he’s apparently on - and then give Schofield(?) the senior paybump on top.

For better or worse he’s here until at least the end of 2020.

It'll be the ~1.5 Million + 100% tax on how much of that and his replacement's wage exceeds the soft football department spend cap.

This is very depressing!

I find that gobsmacking what has the guy got to rest his hat on to deserve that? Success largely built by others at Geelong over a decade ago? FMD

Quite right.
So essentially it could be

1.5 to pay him out
750k excess of the cap payment
500-600k for new senior coach
500-600k on top for that payment exceeding the cap

So paying him out could cost Port an extra 2 million dollars on top of the remaining 1.5 million he's guaranteed anyway.

We don't have that kind of spare cash.

For anyone wondering. We have a soft cap of 9.7m (or very close to that). Of which, Chris Davies explained that 25% of that goes to the coaches. If that helps your maths at all.

Agreed, but even if we could afford to get rid of Hinkley from a financial point of view, I suspect we are stuck with him until at least the end of 2020, because I doubt the ego(s) of whoever was instrumental in giving him his ridiculously unnecessary contract extension could cope with the derision they would almost certainly receive from the wider football public.

I genuinely fear that even moderate success will get him another contract under the Kochmeister's `I want to make Ken Hinkley a 10 year coach ' clause!

When a guy who knows his nuts are in the vice antagonises the same fan base that is on the handle of said vice...that gets respect from me.

He’s got a plan, and rightly or wrongly he’s gonna see it through to the end. That’s some massive belief in what you are setting out to achieve.

Do we? The will of the members is routinely ignored. Ken has his fat contract what the f@&k does he care.

A Reverse Premiership Fund of $10 per loss across the membership base should just about do it.

Duck farmer - you are a legend 😀

11 loses x $10 x 10,000 fans who want Hinkley gone = $1,100,000 in the kitty at end of 2019. Interest at 2.5% for 6 months = $13,750 start 2020 with $1,113,750 in the bank. koch wont sack him in 2019 so will have to get it ready for a mid 2020 to end of 2020 payout with 10,000 fans contributing again.

Either that or his head is so far up his own arse and he could give two shits what any of the fans think
I'd love to have your faith though

Yeah, nothing has ever suggested Ken’s that bright.
