I don't think I've ever been as excited about a recruit, as Rankine ...........Luko, Meh !
If he contributes to our forward line with the effectiveness that Dawson contributed to our back line, his arrival will be a terrific step in our improvement.

Our best front six next year won't include a Murphy, a Rowe or a McHenry.

Monumental step up...

Imagine Dawson on a wing delivering to Fog, McAdam, Rachele, Rankine, Thilthorpe, Walker, Gollant/Newchurch. That's automatically 3-4 more goals a game.

With McAdam aerially taking marks, Fog taking strong chest marks, with Rankine and Rachele to gobble up any spilled marks, it does make it exciting.

Thats not even including Tex and TT to take the big tall one on one marks either.

Now we just some elite mids to deliver the ball. :drunk:
And a ruckman who can give them a chance...

You’d want a pressure player in that mix instead of Gollant/Newchurch, but wholeheartedly agree otherwise

What happens if Goldcoast refuses what they view as a lowball offer, then what? he goes to the PSD with $800k on his head and is taken by essendon (if not north or wc) who have made it known they want him.
Do you think gc are in a position to get nothing for izak? The may play chicken but in the end a compromise is generally met half way.

I'm not trolling....but.....firstly, Rowe is a massive tool on par with Rucci and second, how on earth can the crows prize out a talent like that without giving up pick 5 plus some? He was pick 3 in the best or second best super draft, he's 22 (i think) and going to be a star, likely multiple AA.

What would you demand for Rochele if he wanted to go home to Vic next season?

In my case if Butters wanted to go home, I'd be demanding nothing less than top 5 pick.

I agree with you but let’s compare to 2 other likely trades this year

What’s Tim Taranto worth? Previous Pick 2 - in the system 2 years longer, AA quality mid, B&F winner. Can play forward quite well so flexible - and durable , just hitting the magical 100 game mark

Luke Jackson - pick 3, already a big game star as seen in last years GF. A possible generational talent as a ruckman - drafted the year after Rankine and arguably the best young star in the comp under 22

Now early media reports are Taranto for Collingwood pick 15/16 ish - surely he is worth the same/very similar to Rankine or Butters

Luke Jackson - Freo have hardly any picks (currently 14 and 72). Unquestionably he is worth more than Rankine. What’s the best you think Freo can/will offer - pick 14 and maybe a future first (likely around 14 again)

Not too many clubs would trade pick 5 for 2 pick 14’s

The only reason people are suggesting pick 5 has to be included is because that’s the highest pick we have - if we finished 10th this year and had pick 8 that’s what they would be saying needs to be included

In reality though pick 5 is worth a hell of a lot more than pick 8. If you were trading picks then you would be expecting at least an early second rounder to trade pick 5 down to 8, maybe in even a late first. This gets lost in the emotional of good players leaving

So that’s what Adelaide should work through - like they did with Dawson last year - and ensure they maximise the value of pick 5 to ensure they get Rankine for a reasonable price from GC - when GC will be looking for a fair to very good price for him

The interviewer needed to ask him how they got all there players from other clubs… Chol, Rat, Weller, Markov, Witts, Ellis…

I also like how they are saying they have 3 academy players next year and our first might be useless as one of them is touted to go top 5. Priority access to 3 highly rated talents - wouldn’t that be nice

We would have loved to have Noah Anderson on our list - or Isaac Keeler this year - but we don’t get these type of favours in the competition like GC.

has there been a bigger bunch of whiny bitches when a player has left? I can understand supporters getting worked up but admin needs to be better than that

Sydney were far worse with Dawson. At least GC have the pain that they invested a pick 3 on him. Sydney whined and bleated and bitched like anything when Dawson left

He is a bloody good player though. Especially if you play him in the right position.

He will nominate for the National draft where we would use our pick 5, other clubs will not use pick 1-4 in the National draft for a guy whose played less than 50 games in 4 years averaging a goal a game.

Gold Coast know this is an option, so if they want something for him I think they will get 5 with one of their second rounders coming back to us.

So essentially we will use pick 5 either way - at the draft or give it to GC to get one of their second rounders.

Taranto is certainly worth more than pick 16. I think GWS will look to another Victorian club for a better offer. GWS do lose a bit of bargaining power though due to their bulging salary cap problem, bit like Collingwood with Grundy.

Regarding Luke Jackson, you'd think freo will have to give up this years and next year's firsts or equivalent. Lucky for Melbourne that westcoast don't have first pick in the PSD.

It may be Rory Lobb to Melb which would lessen the payment for Jackson.

And old Saltiga can **** off and go fishing.

Haha I will be going this weekend and most weekends between now and next season.

I'll shut up about rankine now but will be back to gloat I was right or eat humble pie i was wrong.

Looking forward to trade period and the draft. Plenty of holes at both clubs to plug.

What happens if rankine refuses to go to them? If he says don't pick me they wont. Bailey smith has done it and so has perkins.

Have no choice, have to go if selected. The club then backs its program like we did with Wines, who was really pissed when we selected him!!

Port were very unlucky in that draft, in that sense that I thought Rankine could easily have slid to pick 5 in 2018.

Mind you with Rozee making AA this year and having a good year overall, they did well.
Unlucky certainly isn’t the word I’d use. 2018 was a team defining draft for Port, they absolutely cleaned up.

Unfortunately it was team defining for the Crows too. Dreadful stuff.

I think the media learned a lot from the Tom Boyd and how they report on players. I still think the AFL should have stepped in and stopped the Bulldogs from offering this deal as it severely affected Boyd's career and the media certainly didn't help.
What are you basing that on?

The media have learned nothing, if anything it’s getting worse.
