I think the media learned a lot from the Tom Boyd and how they report on players. I still think the AFL should have stepped in and stopped the Bulldogs from offering this deal as it severely affected Boyd's career and the media certainly didn't help.
I’m talking from a different angle though. Boyd barely showed any elite traits when playing at AFL with GWS and yet, the monster offer. Rankine, on the other hand, is showing genuine elite qualities and a handsome offer was given, which after 8 years on from a million dollar offer, this is hardly a big shock to anyone!

What Rankine decides with his offers (from Gold Coast, AFC etc.) is then really up to him. This is how trade period works.

The disdain some of the GC team and fans have seems to be based on a belief that when they rolled over and gave away a player for free, that would stop players wanting to leave.

And it hasn't and now they are mad
They got fair value for Jack Martin though

we can but won't need to
GC will see sense and take first round 2023. after all could be pick 1...
Gold Coast want points for 3 academy players in 2023.

We should try & get future 2nds & 3rds with the players we trade out, to package up points for Gold Coast.

So Rowey has said the Crows have told him that:

Rankine is on no where near $800k
Hes playing midfield
And......we arent giving up pick 5!!!!

Wow, going to be an interesting trade period

Do you believe the crows have told Rowey anything? Probably not.

I hope some of that is true though - especially the last one.

He isn't the first and won't be the last the leave that joint.

Well to be fair to gold coast, I for one think its great they have finally decided to stand up for themselves. For a decade, they have let a congaline of players and interstate teams **** them sideways and they have said nothing. Its a massive upside now that players are believing in the culture being built.

low blow.....

Suns boss’ parting whack to $4m star as teammates ‘felt he was in this with them

“Stuey Dew has put in a phenomenal amount of time with this kid, he’s been like a second dad to him. He’s helped him in so many ways, to get around and get involved, and he’s also helped him enormously with his football.

“There’s a lot of very disappointed people up here and I know a lot of his fellow playing mates all feel they were all in this together, and they felt he was in this with them and would go forward with them.

“Money talks, huh?

When people say "we are all in this together", it's a sure sign that they are full of shit.

Yeah, well then you change the guy doing your trading and renewing contracts, you don't give away a player for free and go "That fixes it"

FMD

And then the supporters are scooping that shit up and putting it in ice cream cones and calling it Cornettos. It just doesn't make sense, it just doesn't.

Tantrum Crying GIF
Do we need to talk to them about Bock?

I do love all the media spin of "we put so much into him to make him the player he is" when you could argue that with his talent, what the hell have the Suns done to limit him so badly.

It's also in stark contrast to the media commentary that Danger was "going home"
Doesn’t fit the narrative

Now this is the kind of rubbish that grinds the old gear box.

This goat is a successful businessman worth millions. And from his very secure position wants give a wack to a young kid trying to maximise the worth of his talents, in an industry that can be an injury away from being over.

Bloody disgusting and immature behaviour.
