Ok everyone ... oils aint oils.

What a player should cost is a very unique thing. So many factors coming into that equation.

Most non-Victorian teams get ripped off / get a win eventually. When it's two non-Vic clubs involved, the AFL media get a bit confused.

In reality it depends on where are the buyers/sellers at, coming/going home, coming/going for opportunity ... there is no "rule", but there are trends.

Bock and Davis were stolen for bugger all.

We got Betts because Carlton were dumb. But even then many on here were crying about the price.

Dangerfield was unders - we knew it - he was our best player, won the Brownlow in his first year at Geelong. The Cats supporters were claiming he's coming for free (remember).

Most on here were pretty happy to grab the Pick 12 for CC when he went to Brisbane. Me included.

Lever and McGovern we got top if not above top dollar.

Dawson was a ferrari at toyota prices, no doubt.

Rankine is coming, he is a good young player with plenty of potential returning to his home state. The guidelines lean towards the fact that we won't be paying overs. He is not going to the PSD, there is no reason for GC or Adelaide to risk that.

The interest is in where the negotiations go. Will it involve future picks, involving players in the deal directly, what can we get for other players to add to the mix, splitting 2022 first ... all good stuff.

I'm guessing the right price is about at our 2023 future first - that gives GC the chance to have a win in all this, as we are a couple of badly timed injuries from staying in the bottom 4 next year :-(

I’m not sure Essendon will be ok with a rankine commuting from SA, he might miss a training or two.
He wants to come back to SA, no club in their right mind is picking a player who is headed home to a different state.
And remember Essendon didn’t value him enough the first time with their offer, they aren’t upping that now to get a player that doesn’t want to be there.

And it’s not like Rankine is currently based in Victoria or WA where you could argue it’s not a massive disruption to move states

No way anyone would pick him in the PSD. Has not happened ever. The only player that didn’t get to the club of there choice via the PSD was Nick Stevens - but he still went to the same state and only 20 mins in terms of location. He had also agreed to terms with Carlton once he knew that Collingwood with pick 14 in the PSD were unlikely to get him. From memory Carlton offered a significant increase in contract from Collingwood to get him on board

Anyone else hear Roo on The Bump podcast slyly slip out "What did Charlie Cameron get traded for? I think it was pick 12". Wasnt a bad bit of seed planting by Roo TBH.

I may be looking into things, but it wouldn't surprise me if that was going to be the precedent of the Crows trade strategy.

Fair enough too. That's around the mark for me!
If the Crows had pick 12, there's no way the media would be saying the crows need to trade down to pick 5 because 12 is not enough.

Same way they are saying a contracted Jacob Hopper to Geelong for pick 16-19 is 'fair'.

What happens if Goldcoast refuses what they view as a lowball offer, then what? he goes to the PSD with $800k on his head and is taken by essendon (if not north or wc) who have made it known they want him.
When was the last time a player didn't get to his preferred destination...

Well there's many with highly unrealistic expectations that are not providing logical alternatives.
You seem more heavily invested in this trade than goings on in your own club.

Are you Kornes or Rooch?

Adelaide get Rankine
Suns get in return a future second and James Rowe seems fair make it happen Adelaide
I'm sensing the possibility of a 3 way trade here.

Rankine to Adelaide
Adelaide's future 2nd and James Rowe to GC
WB 1st to GC in exchange for not getting James Rowe.

Looks like a win all round. Maybe WB's 2nd coming to us as steak knives.

Now this is the kind of rubbish that grinds the old gear box.

This goat is a successful businessman worth millions. And from his very secure position wants give a wack to a young kid trying to maximise the worth of his talents, in an industry that can be an injury away from being over.

Bloody disgusting and immature behaviour.
What annoys me more is when we were losing players for bigger $$ back home AFC copped the whack for for lots of reasons and as supporters our complaints got shut down.

Now the boot is on the other foot we are the bad guys too.

It's bizzare

If Gold Coast need points for 3 academy players in 2023, we should be collecting future 2nds 3rds for them... by trading out a few players/using our own futures.

When was the last time a player didn't get to his preferred destination...

Exactly, especially out of contract players.

Been mentioned but I'd be annoyed at Cochrane if I was a Suns supporter / list manager. I get why he said it but any risk of him deciding to stay went out the window last night. They have to trade him now.

I hope we do something else with pick 5 just to take it off the table. The melts from GC's supporter would be pretty funny.

I think we have accepted we are parting with pick 5. With such a high draft pick on the table just about every club will make a call to us to see what it will take.

I think a 3rd club could easily get involved in this trade as pick 5 appears to be more valuable to just about every other club but Gold Coast.

The other thing is it's not like he is magically worth the pick we have. If we had pick 3 or pick 8 that's what everyone would be talking about.

This is a huge coup. For all the criticism we have received about our recruitment over the last few years, if we are able to bring in Dawson and Rankine with a couple of mid range first rounders that is hugely impressive. It changes the standards and dynamic of the entire club.

All of a sudden, we have a very potent forward-line. There’s also no reason he can’t play that Shai Bolton role. It leaves us one or two key players (KPD and big bodied explosive mid… JHF?) short of a very good framework.

JHF is 185cm and 81kg. The same height as Keays and 7kg lighter. This is only a few cm's above Berry and Schoenberg. I'm not sure why people think a few cm's matters for a mid. There's no correlation between height / weight and clearances.

Thought it was very poor form when he went into Rankine injury/issue as explicit as he did

I'd almost refuse to give them our first when we only got pick 12 for a contracted charlie cameron.
Izak has had a better year than CC the year we traded. Has a higher ceiling imo too. I certainly wouldn’t be up in arms if we lost our first.
