Jack Anthony claims that in the short time he's been at freo he's noticed the training is harder and he is fitter than he ever was at the Pies.

Ah well, i guess we'll have to drown our sorrows in that big silver cup they gave us last year.;)

I think this is another example of the press trying to make a story from nothing.

The headline is not supported by the actual story.

In the article, there is not a single quote from JA.

A Freo fitness guy said JA is fitter now then when he arrived at Freo in November ( derr, I'd hope so a month after resuming training after the end of season layoff!!)

And also he inferred JA thought Freo did things differently ( I wonder which of the clubs do identical training patterns??)

For a start, I wonder what Freo did to match Arizona?

Pls don't attack JA re this, just a lazy journo effort.

What we all have to realize here is that ALL clubs are training harder due to the limited rotations next season and clubs trying to get players gain great aerobic capacity. I am sure even the 2010 Premiership side are training harder as evidenced by the increase workload they did whilst in Arizona. Of course clubs do things differently but what we need to understand is whatever it was we did it worked.

Didn't Jack not get into the side because he wasn't working hard enough? Seems to me he missed the point of the 2010 season while at Collingwood...and a result completely missed the boat.

Also even if they got a quote from JA, he's not going to say bad things about his new team and say they don't train as hard as the pies, it's just common sense, you don't crap in your brand new bed just before you lay in it.

Besides if even they train harder, it doesn't mean that they are training smarter!

Sounds like the Freo fitness guy is trying to talk himself up more than anything.

No doubt about the good old Hun, never let accuracy stand in the way of a Collingwood related headline.

Certainly an early contender for the 'Worst Pies Article from the HUN' for the year.

But do not fear, plenty more competition to come yet.

It's a media beat up, but yeah, players shouldn't necessarily train harder anyway. Look at Adelaide with how many injuries they've been getting, and they prided themselves on being the hardest trained club in the AFL. I think they've even lowered their training this year because it backfired.

who care if they do?Its a well known fact that the Dogs get flogged by Eade which leads to them annually staggering into the finals

Im perfectly satisfied with David Buttifant our Director of Sports Science.the fact that other clubs are now emulating our high altitude training shows where our club is at

JA could also be training for a different role and not FF which would make his training patterns different which might mean more running and less strength work which would seem harder if you're inclined that way

True, read the headline and thought.."jack you cheaky little.." then read the article and it says he's got fitter since resuming training and that freo are training for the new interchange........

Mondays headline "Swan leaves Collingwood for st kilda".....article - Dayne Swan left a Collingwood cafe on Sunday morning in a cab headed for Fitzroy st...

That Dayne Swan has a very similar name to a triple Copeland trophy winner whos name escapes me for now???

Read that article, and it seemed a little off in it's headline, but even if there WERE directo quotes from Jack, it would have been a case of Jack actually making an efoort to work harder, as opposed to "Freo trains harder than Collingwod zomg!".

There is probably a fair bit of poetic licence taken but I would expect Harvey to have Freo working theior butts off to back up a good season for once and go all out to win a flag. They will be training hard alright. We are going to have to work hard to win the flag again and there will be a few teams like Freo on the way up trying to catch us. The interesting point about hard training is the balancing act. As someone mentioned, the Crows seemed to have over done it for a number of years.

Fremantle train harder than Collingwood, so says JA

My old man told me John Anthony said this week his new team Fremantle train harder than the reigning premier Collingwood. He said he saw it in the papers but I couldn't manage to find it, so I was wondering if anyone read it could post the link to the article?

Sour grapes, Jack! :p

I merged your thread Coin Toss as there was already one on the topic.

If you go back to the first page you'll see Jack didn't actually say that at all. Some creative journalism with a misleading headline. Who'da thunk it?
