Jacinta Allan - Leading a zombie government

Do you want her to be Jacinta Allan or Daniella Andrews?

It sounds like you'd rather our State Premier be a muckraker rather than a leader and a member of a consultative team.

It sounds like you want her to be Danielle Andrews or Dan Andrews Mk.II.

I want and hope that she steps out of his shadow and be a different leader, deAndrews herself, and be Jacinta Allan, a breath of fresh air that this state sorely needed.

Otherwise its "meet the new boss, same as the old boss."

The old boss who won the last 2 elections in landslides...

What does differentiation look like to you? Is it policy differences? Is it pandering to cookers? What are you hoping she'll do differently?

"they're not relevant" - not a great start on the tone thing
Given how successful Disaster Dan was with the way he went about 'governing' since he came into power, it comes as no surprise that politicians, particularly those in the Victoria Labor party, have obviously taken note and now following his successful template until it doesn't work and buy votes anymore.

It would have been shocking to me that whoever replaced Disaster went about it differently. Let's see how long Allan can keep this up though given the amount of debt the state is carrying. Disaster has left politics when he obviously knows there's nothing left in the kitty and he couldn't keep throwing money around like confetti to buy votes among public servants and the construction industry.

If there's one thing I could ask of Jacincta it's that Geelong needs an actual high speed rail connection to the city.
It's taking drivers minimum 90 minutes to drive into Melbourne cbd.

Making living here very hard.

It's being built mate, it's been on the Big Build slate collecting funding for a few years. I know a guy who was doing some geological studies on it earlier this year.

It's been delayed. Funding cancelled since April.

Pretty sure my mate's geotechnical studies were much more recent than that. I'm thinking July.

yeah they keep removing grade separation too so at some point the vline and metro trains run on the same tracks

the level crossing removals were as much about pandering to cars as anything else by removing perceived points of congestion

they've not improved service frequency like they were sold as doing because the timetables haven't changed

From a safety perspective I support it in general, but there are pressing priorities Victoria needs like a high speed rail to Geelong, third lane for the Princes Hwy, finish Westgate tunnel, improve train reliability on existing routes, train capacity issues, Melbourne Airport Rail etc.

The pandering to cars, as you call it, has been a political windfall for Labor though. People in particular through the eastern and southern suburbs of Melbourne (otherwise knows as where every Victorian election ever has been decided) not sitting at level crossings for what seems like hours have rewarded Labor with their votes in successive elections.

So what is next for these politically vital constituencies? SRL.

Meanwhile aside from the aforementioned Geelong issues, you still need to catch a V/Line train from Deer Park.

oh don't get me wrong I'm all for removing level crossings, they've done some good work with it, but I don't really see it as commitment to improving public transport as a service

like the plan to reroute frankston trains to run direct to flinders which was scrapped due to political reasons and replaced with metro tunnel 2

they should have done that years ago when the timetable was meant to come into effect, would have improved services

they really still do it all based on votes

i agree, its based on impact on voting more than actual need or value

the fact we get some improvements out of it is almost incidental

The interesting thing will be that Allan and Carroll have both in the past been pretty strong PT fans and advocates, will they have the appetite now to push for some of that necessary work to be done

I hope so. I dont expect SRL to stop though.

One is from the country and one is from the north-west of Melbourne. Might also be worth noting.

The Frankston line was almost entirely responsible for two changes of government at consecutive elections. It would take a brave, and I mean, brave, politician to ignore feedback of that sort.

Service frequency is better for the tram/train cross junctions. They were a joke. Kooyong station is still a joke.
