Shocked another budget blowout ?
The bill to Victorian taxpayers for the Land Forces weapons conference has blown out to $30m after more than 12,000 rostered policing shifts were pulled away from other duties across the state.
The Saturday Herald Sun understands the event cost the state government up to $30m from the public purse — double the initial figure revealed by Treasurer Tim Pallas earlier this week — preparing for and policing the controversial three-day expo that wrapped up on Friday.

No surprise there, it needs to be cancelled asap . What are you hearing about scale of the blowout. Rumours going around that they are trying to give a lot of work that was meant to be contracted to defence which will actually cost a lot more but will be hidden in the defenc budget

That's ok
Debt debt debt

Double land tax JA. In fact, just add a death duties tax at this point.
You will own nothing but we very happy in Victoria under Labor, or you will own something but be very unhappy with being taxed out of the eyeball.

How serious is the Allen government about achieving the 80,000 new home target per annum?

Not very, unless you’re talking high rise near Box Hill

A 15,000 new home plan in Beveridge has sat with the Planning Minister since 2022.

Probably because it's not a good idea to build 15,000 homes in Beveridge and push 15,000 new commutes onto an overloaded Hume Fwy and Seymour V/Line service.

Why don't they just say that instead of putting out fancy media statements extolling the virtues of the project. The opening line of the VPA media statement reads:

"The Victorian Planning Authority (VPA) is working on the Beveridge North West precinct as a significant contributor to the government’s forward pipeline of housing supply to ensure Victorians have access to affordable homes, and economic recovery is supported."

And do you not think that horse (i.e., pushing commuters north) has bolted? Look at Craigieburn, Wallan, Mickleham etc. Infrastructure Australia says, "The Northern Growth Corridor covers a region 20 km to 50 km from central Melbourne. This corridor is expected to accommodate significant population and employment growth. By 2031, the corridor is forecast to have around 137,000 residents, an increase of approximately 70% from 2020"

Who knows, one for Jacinta to answer I guess

If the horse has bolted because the gate is left open, do you keep adding more horses to the paddock? The outer suburban growth is not sustainable at this rate and somebody at some point will have to pull the pin.

Few people like apartment living and even fewer in the middle suburbs are going to like living next to townhouses and medium density but that's where we're heading, like it or not.

Where’s the Airport Rail
No shovels digging

Where’s the Melton Rail Electrification
Where’s the Wyndham Vale Rail Electrification

Labor lie and lie and continue to lie. Without punishment.

But it’s ok we will build the Suburban Rail Loop whilst we turn your nice suburb into a mass sprawl of 20 story ugly high rises overlooking your backyard. Worked so well for Box Hill hasn’t it … they look disgusting and ugly.

Just imagine beautiful Cheltenham with disgusting high rises, nearly walking distance from the beach mind you. Or rustic, working class Clayton - where people worked hard to have a nice functioning house, with peace. They didn’t work their backsides off to have mass sprawl over their backyards. Even Clarinda, one of Melbourne’s most unique suburbs, yep let’s turn that into a mass sprawl too.

The character of suburbs is being destroyed by Labor. The Subrubam Rail Loop only seeks to achieve this destruction. But that’s fine, keep pumping people into this state, there’s a house for all of them. Or why don’t you let people live in peace for once, nope can’t do that.

Broady and Glen Waverley would be better. That architecture you are extolling was never meant to last.
Behind every shiny shop facade is a substandard building. Architectural trash. I’d go full napoleon in these areas and rip up the map and start again.

Also similar objections to yours were heard about skyrail. Not so much now. In fact, the loudest SRL detractors are now proposing skyrail up arterial roads as an alternative.

You've got to admit Peetoo that the rest of Melbourne and Victoria seems to have been forgotten by this government. All the eggs are in the SRL basket a railway line that the government keeps telling us it has a mandate to build (yet we have not seen the complete business case and haven't been told exactly how it will be paid for).

Meanwhile, the Airport link, Geelong Fast Rail, the hospital in Torquay, Western Interstate Freight Terminal, Wellington Road duplication, the new campus for the Royal Melbourne and Women's Hospitals at Arden, and no doubt countless other projects have been canned.

But, at least the 2026 Commonwealth Games will now officially be delivered by the Allen Government.... in Glasgow, Scotland

Delayed due to the airport cracking the shits of what type of station they wanted.

Given that's been sorted It will kick off again soon.

We can't keep building out with urban sprawl. The only way is up.

Won't benefit anyone west of Sunshine.
And costings by the Parliamentary Budget Office to be released tomorrow indicate that for every dollar spent on SRL the return will be $0.60 - $0.70.

Remember Dan scrapping EW Link because it didn't stack up financially!?
