How is thompson on good money? He barely plays.
He signed an extension in 2016 to end 2019 and our champion list management team thought it would be a good idea to extend to the end of 2023 whilst recovering from an ACL.
Before his first ACL he was a damn good key defender. He's 31 now and playing in the VFL on a stupid amount of money

The same guys who gave Atkins 4 years?

Its not sudden. Ling got teased about the $1 pub he bought years ago.
Not all roses though

“He is at the centre of a fight over the disastrous lease of a former Smorgy’s Restaurant on Geelong’s Cunningham Pier to one of Mr Costa’s daughters.

Mr Ling was also caught up in the financial problems as a shareholder, along with Mrs Holroyd and her husband Darren.

The former Cats midfielder told the Tribunal he “naively” trusted Mr Schokman’s and Mr Costa’s business advice and was forced to sell his family home to pay debts that piled up on the lease.

To be frank, that's the costa doing business at Geelong

Frank passed away years ago. Let it go.
I don't think k Bowes gets to Geelong, but they will get some players on big bikkies off their books if they win the flag on Saturday (Selwood for one)

I imagine the likes of (Cam) Guthrie have stayed at Geelong for unders too.

They are a great club with an amazing culture that is the envy of the rest of the league. Look at how they turned Tyson Stengle around.

From all reports, he wants to play for a.Vic club at any rate. We're a destination state/city :) #vicsdoitbetter

Being a good tagger doeant make you good at business.

As for the Costas, maybe says a bit about how thry treat people if footballers are dragged in.

Probably a separate discussion.

Geelong wanted to get Hopper, so they had that money at least. I am sure if they really really wanted to they could make it work. It is only for two years, so re-negotiate some contracts with current players so they are more back ended. Tom Stewart is on contract for two more years for instance; extend him another two, back end those two, done easy.

Oh the ironing, given the revelations about what happened (allegedly) at your club in the not so distant past.

GC did Brodie and pick 21 for Freo's 2nd rounder.

Ie. they moved back a few (or more than a few) spots to clear a player out and to spread their young talent.

I think they'd be targeting Essendon or Hawthorn's future 1st rounders in exchange for pick 7. It's not pick 7 on it's own. It's the ability to move back a year in the draft to space out some young guys.

They might need to throw another later pick in just to convince those clubs but I expect it's a reasonable deal for those sides keen to improve their list quickly.

No, I recall there was a reporter's tweet and for 4 years. The 5th year "clause" definitely outplayed us. Had the Lions did something similar with Daniher then Essendon wouldn't have received a band 1 compensation. $800-750K would have received a band 1 which Daniher got and $700K borderline.

Crouch was never getting band one

Not sure what you are saying about a 5th year clause?

Whether it was 4 years or 5 years guaranteed would have made little difference to the compo. It's the yearly salary.

Considering he only got Adelaide band 3, it shows his salary was a fair way off.

Crows fans were delusional to think it was ever going to happen.

Jack Bowes, pick 7 and 31 to the Saints for Ben Long and pick 9. If the Suns are really generous they can throw in pick 34 as well but don't see that happening.

Were GCS looking to get Ben Long already?

Because it seems silly to do a salary dump and give away those picks only to bring in another developed player on good money.

I would have thought Bowes + 7 for pick A and pick B. Or whever they end up being. But no players.

Long has already asked for a trade to GC

Go and read the Daniher article and see whether the contract years make a difference to the compensation lol, they played the game and got the band 1 compensation. There's a trigger clause for his 5th year, it was initially reported around $700K (per the article) at 4 years so on the edge of band 1 (Rockliff just missed out on a 4 year contract at $650K 2 years earlier) but he end up agreeing on $600K (just missed out on band 2) at 5 year, less money per year but an extra year and given his history of injuries I can see why he did.

So GC are dangling pick 7 & Bowes (former 10 pick, who had a poor year because of injury), but before that was one of their better backman.
Wonder what they are expecting in return? 1 x 2nd rounder, 1x 3rd rounder & Long, would do it for the Saints I reckon.
He would take either Paton or Webster's spot.
Then we pick McKenzie & Humphrey in the draft, in that order.

GC will want your pick 9 or your future first.

Not sure why you think they are going to choose to get reamed when they don’t have to.

Gold Coast already have a myriad of second rounders (25, 31 & 34 if I remember correctly)

another second rounder is probably counter productive
