Jack is obviously misguided here. He is one of many in society in that boat. I feel bad for them tbh.
For his sake I hope it can be worked out from here. I'll hang on to the thread of hope that Novavax is offering.

But what I really want to say is that whatever the outcome, purely from a footy point of view it doesn't undo his past achievements. If it ends like this now then yes it will be a serious hit on his reputation, but it's kind of a turn-off for me when fans start retrospectively bagging out what he has done for us on-field. Just for one thing, he was a big part of us winning our last flag. I cherish that flag. It is one of the all time great flags.
So by all means go to town on him for this current debacle, and there are indeed other moments of WTFery in his footy past, but overall he has had a damn good career that most players could only dream of.

Darling has played 200 games, won a flag, made the AA side etc. That in itself is a longer and more decorated career than probably 95% of players. I mean we've had 261 players and 27 have played 200 games while a similar number have made the AA side. And we are pretty over represented in both categories. The stats are out there somewhere for percentage of players that make it to 200 games etc. I just don't have them.

If he chooses to retire over vaccination status then he's still the guy that drank MJ's secret stuff at half time in the 2018 GF and turned in a massive 3rd quarter. Personally I think it's a dumb decision but it's not like he needs to be shot at dawn. The AFL covid vaccination policy was agreed between the league and the AFLPA.

What will tarnish his legacy is if the whole medical certificate thing is an attempt to not get vaccinated without sacrificing his contract.

I really do wonder how this plays out for him. Covid clearly isn't going anywhere, neither are the mandates.

What will change after standing down?

The mandates will go away, it's just a matter of when. It could be 12 months, it could be as long as 36. Look at what the UK just did. When Omicron is here and running wild, Economics will end this pandemic, and like magic these mandates will disappear. Jack's ability to play at the top level may be done by then.

Will our forward line work better without Jack Darling and have I been saying it for years: Yes

Do I think Jack is actually probably an unfortunate 5g in the jab type of "antivaxer" rather than a "hey I'm fit and healthy and have next to zero chance of being damaged by Omicron but a 1 in 2500 chance of a career ending heart injury from the jab" type of common sense "antivaxer"... Yes.

Nonetheless, I respect him immensely for having the balls to not have the jab. No doubt many players weren't keen but put the money first and to do it differently is worthy of respect.

This Dr's certificate stuff is interesting. I hope he takes legal action against the club/AFL because thats what needs to be done. We have courts to sort out these kind of complicated issues, hopefully Jacks the sort who believes in his principles enough to go there. So far as I'm aware these mandates have been tested twice and both times the court has come down on the side of the challenger. In the US they have been abandoned by so many companies its not funny due to employees actually testing whether these kind of things are legally binding. We should see where things sit in Australia, and it'll take a person of means to do that. Hopefully the media continue to slander him into going down this path.

I'm a bit disappointed that none of you have thought to demand this Dr lost his medical license yet. Come on guys this is obvious low hanging fruit, we all know [apparently] that the workplace injury claim is bogus and that there actually is no medical reason for anyone to not comply with government orders so why is Jacks Dr allowed to practice medicine in our society? Certainly any Dr who thought that based on their own judgement prescribing ivermectin off label to patients who wanted to use it as a covid antiviral were stripped of their licence's so why not this guy?

For what's is worth, the Novavax vaccine got approved by the TGA today

I doubt that changes anything that pertains to this situation though

Where in Australia did they test the mandates and win? Only successful one I'm aware of was BHP being in trouble for not communicating it well enough at a site, but it didn't stop them from still implementing at a later date.

2 cases have already failed

In WA, an anti-vax police officer successfully obtained an injunction to stop being dismissed due to the vaccine mandate for police officers. It's a minor win, as he still cannot set foot on the premises and the interim injunction is meant to keep him employed until a court hearing settles the issue, and given like you said the failings of other anti-vaccine mandate lawsuits it is very possible (if not probable) this lawsuit will be dismissed too.

Like the BHP one, it is due to courts being careful to not allow workers to be sacked until the legal issues are definitively sorted - same kind of things you will get in unfair dismissal hearings all the time...

Yeah its early days but I was referring to the BHP one and The WAPOL one. Temporary victories both to be sure, still waiting on a case that goes the distance down here. Maybe Palmer will spark up at McGowan again over the latest border stuff. Who knows. In the US there have been legitimate victories and major companies doing 180's, I'm simply curious to see more cases and more ruling here. I don't know what the outcomes will be, and nor do you. Courts decide what the law is not governments so we have to wait and see. If no-one tests the waters, its all just assumed to be legal when maybe it isn't. We don't really need to argue about it here, this isn't a court room. As I said hopefully Jack goes down this path, just to see what the outcome is.

Calling a temporary injunction and a delay to implementing the mandate as wins is stretching it a bit....

Meanwhile you dont want to acknowledge the two cases where they were dismissed, and the challenger forced to pay the court fees?

Some very dubious fact presentation from yourself

Shocked to be sitting here right now

Like you? Reckon this is the first post I’ve seen of yours outside of posting apocryphal YouTube links and other assorted quackery in the Covid thread.

Its difficult for the unwashed to appreciate but I'm vaccinated and everything I linked in the covid thread [including the odd youtube vid] was from hardcore experts in covid science and in the majority of cases were research papers taken from medial journals. We live in a world where there is no distinction between science and Alex jones in the mind of those who are team "don't undermine vaccine confidence."

I was never a 50 post a day kind of guy but I had over 1000 post on this forum before making any post in a covid thread. I didn't even venture in there until mid 2021. And, having done so and being probably the first to raise about a dozen issues that were unknown then but are common knowledge now, and expecting respectful discussion and debate about it, I quickly came to realise that most of the people commenting on this forum [and certainly those with the loudest voices] are not worth discussing football with because they are... well it doesn't need to be said and doesn't matter anyway because there is no discussing football on this forum with this account. I am enemy.

I think the requirement that Jack Darling be vaccinated is pointless, now that the characteristics of Omicron are clear.

He poses barely more threat to those around him than those who are double-vaccinated.
He is vanishingly unlikely to require the services of our hospitals.

Vaccination, for someone as young and fit as Jack, reduces any COVID risk - to him, to others or to society at large - by only a very small degree. I do not think this justifies compelling him to be vaccinated.

Having said this, I do question his motivation, and his appraisal of the evidence. The vaccination risk is really minuscule, and he's setting that against years of his career.

Its an AFL rule not a madical issue. As side comment, no vaccination no travel. Thats not what you want as an AFL player - get to your place pf work?

Jack Darling = Kyrie

Yes, there are plenty of rules. Government rules on travel, AFL mandates on vaccination. I just don't think they're all justified, especially given the current state of the pandemic.

They showed on 7 News last night that his mother in law attends or leads anti vaxx rallies. That should say it all, right there.
