Jack is obviously misguided here. He is one of many in society in that boat. I feel bad for them tbh.
For his sake I hope it can be worked out from here. I'll hang on to the thread of hope that Novavax is offering.

But what I really want to say is that whatever the outcome, purely from a footy point of view it doesn't undo his past achievements. If it ends like this now then yes it will be a serious hit on his reputation, but it's kind of a turn-off for me when fans start retrospectively bagging out what he has done for us on-field. Just for one thing, he was a big part of us winning our last flag. I cherish that flag. It is one of the all time great flags.
So by all means go to town on him for this current debacle, and there are indeed other moments of WTFery in his footy past, but overall he has had a damn good career that most players could only dream of.
Yeah 100% agree. Some of the comments I've read towards him has been pretty disappointing. At the end of the day it's his choice but won't hold it against him. What a AFL career. The king. So many great memories. Should put up a highlight real of him. Been a great player for us and should be mentioned in the same room as the best of them from our club and it's history. I'm sad if it ended like this if he doesn't get vaxed. Surely he would know how much damage it will do to him and his future. Losing a lot of money and the public scrutiny and bullying he will get to not be vaxed just isn't worth it.

Get vaxed Darling and the future looks bright and things go back to normal for him. Club will welcome him with open arms. Not a hard desicion to make but who knows what's going on in his head

I assume this has already been discussed and debunked here somewhere (can't be bothered going through 13 pages), but there is some weird chick on FB called Jessica Fletcher on FB who is commenting on all the JD stories like she is now JD's GF and he has left his wife!! She has said such batshit crazy things as "JD is fully vaxxed" and "His ex hacked his insta and wrote that post"

Not being in WA. I don't see as much as you guys, so assuming she is just a few roos short in the top paddock?!

If he was fully vax then why is this a issue and out in the media and the club making a statement.

I call B/S from this crazy chick lol.

the point is if Jack is a risk to team mates and staff being unvaccinated, does him being unvaccinated increase the risk to others catching covid, also do RAT tests allow that risk if any to become an acceptable risk? If the players or club say that Jack is a medical risk to them then do they also not go to the supermarket shopping or to the petrol station because i would assume the risk is greater in the general population. I would assume the risk is greatest to Jack himself if he is unvaccinated and not to the vaccinated around him, if he's the one taking the risk then i dont see the problem with him playing. Its pretty clear the vaccinated spread the virus as much as anyone or we wouldnt have omnicron at all.
I dont think anyone seriously thinks he is a risk to his teammates. But there is an AFL mandate to be vaxxed, no exceptions.

They showed on 7 News last night that his mother in law attends or leads anti vaxx rallies. That should say it all, right there.
I have no doubt he's a long way down the rabbit hole. I just don't think, on the basis of a risk assessment, that there's sufficient benefit in forcing him to be vaccinated.

That may well be the case, but it's about enforcement of the rules at this point. Imagine the uproar from other players who reluctantly had the jab if JD or anyone else were suddenly exempted.

At the risk of getting political and off-topic, we have 30 asylum seekers locked up in a hotel for more than eight years - that's not a typo. I also don't think, on the basis of a risk assessment, that there's sufficient benefit in detaining them that long.

However, rules are rules even if you don't agree with them. He is not forced to play AFL, good luck to him in the next phase of his life.

Anyone got access to this that can provide some notes?

  • Will Scholfield is disappointed with Jack Darling's vaccine refusal.
  • He would not be happy with him if he was still his teammate.
  • Regardless of that, he still considers him a friend and respects his right to make his own decision.

I imagine everyone felt bad when Shep missed out on a premiership medal but personally I am glad that it allowed Will Schofield to win one in his place.

Always struck me as a decent, thoughtful guy.

Having a conversation with an anti-vaxxer is like trying to talk to a toddler who is just yelling out gibberish.

What about people who have had the vaccine, but don't support vacc mandates? At least 10 to 20% of people who have been double jabbed would not have taken the vaccine bar for the punishment for not taking it. Let's be real, there is no choice for most people. Lose your job, get fined OR have your freedom of movement constricted.

Whilst I don't agree with his decision i 100% respect that he is sticking to his guns about it. That takes real guts.

Looks like his wife is going to be the bread winner now doing... whatever it is she does.
She is or at least was a physiotherapist
She wouldn’t be able to work in that field either …

Except he's claiming a work place injury and not just sticking to "I don't want to be vaccinated".

Is guts a new euphemism for stupidity?

I liked it better when our star players were crackheads instead of crackpots.

I was disappointed when it came out but I figure he's a big lad and he has no doubt sunk a bit of thought into walking away from all that cash.

I find this health claim via social media pretty distasteful though. Really kills the "man of his convictions" vibe.

I respect his decision, just like I respect the decision of the WCE to pay him peanuts whilst he isn't playing. Nobody is holding a gun to his head... actually, considering McGowan is holding a gun to all west Australians heads perhaps thats not true... but if you dont like the T&C's of your employment.... then find a new job.
