If he's not taking calls from his friends at the club like the rumours suggest then that's a massive red flag. I don't see how he can come back into the fold and have the trust of his team mates again.
Do whatever option costs us the least money but means he can't just get picked up by another team if the mandate is reversed at some point.
Make the dumb campaigner realise there are consequences to being a selfish prick

This is why we are looking at de registration i believe.

What's the point of keeping someone on the inactive list and paying 25 percent of their salary in the hopes they change their mind or the AFL removes the jab mandate when they won't even communicate with you?

We are a business and need to make hard calls everyday, we more than every other club in the AFL really look after our players and don't throw them on the scrapheap but he's not leaving us very much choice here.

I'm not buying the rumours just at the moment, as none of that is really verifiable. But, he and his wife haven't been at any of the social gatherings, wedding, etc which have taken place and has photos posted to the gram in the last month or so.

Xav Ellis probably talks to Shuey a few times a week and his point about the vets all showing up for one last year, one last tilt, and then this peanut decides he is more important than the club carries some weight.

If the players can move on with their year and not be distracted by him being on the inactive list then I think that makes the most sense. Pay him 25-30k, and tell him to stay out of the way. If the mandates are miraculously dropped for 2023 then stitch up a deal to send him to GC.

I can't condone Darling's attitude of silence towards the club and avoiding contact, which is just making a manageable situation into an untenable one. I've supported his decision but he needs to understand the club aren't the ones making the rules here.

Having said that, deregistration seems ridiculous in the circumstances. According to Rhino's replies to his Tweet the club would still control his registration and could prevent him playing for another club. If they want to cut him, then make it clean and let him move on.
Why should we let him move on to another team for free, if he has refused the vax, and cut communication with the club. We owe him no favours.

I'm sure if he had been communicating fully with the club deregistration wouldn't be on the table, but he sounds like he's just cut all ties.

**** him.

With Jed Anderson cleared to play by getting vaccinated, and thus returning to training today, does he and his partner "still stand with you" Jack?

fu** him.
If another club wants our discarded goods then why do we care? Or if we're going to care, then don't discard in the first place.

Well hopefully will be the day that it's all settled with the board meeting.
If Jack still decides to ignore the club, then the club won't have any choice but to replace him with a replacement SSP player.
Can't put the season at further risk by not replacing him.

He's wanted by the club. He's refusing to make himself available. So fu** him.
Then they should put him on inactive list, which maintains ties to the club and is easily reversible when circumstances change. Cancelling contract and deregistration should be severing all ties and Darling is free to manage his own future, not remain reliant on the club to facilitate any return to the AFL.

This is why there's some chatter about deregistering him I guess. Through no fault of our own we lose a key asset who is a simple decision away from being able to rejoin the league next year and if we discard him, could play anywhere else meaning we get nothing.

The AFL must be on board with it if it's being spoken about. 25% of base wage isn't going to affect our cap so I agree we could retain him and see how 2022 plays out, but I have genuine concerns that he wouldn't be welcomed back with open arms by the players.
I think the players will get over it. Willie Rioli was much worse, smoked drugs even though he knew the history the club had with them, was too stupid to know the rules and got pinged from trying to cheat a test, then got caught with drugs again toward the end of his suspension. He sat out for two years as well, that is a long time to carry someone who has only shown potential as an A grader (but not yet the consistency).

Darling is a durable all Australian who fronts up every season and kicks 30-50 goals. Surely we can carry him for 12 months in the hope he comes good.

What history does West Coast have with players smoking marijuana?

I hear what you're saying when comparing Willie Riolis redemption at the club to JD. But Willie and Jack have wildly different levels of education. And Jack's been in the AFL system for over a decade.

I can see the players being more sympathetic to Willie than Jack.

Darling will be a useless asset at the trade table if we decided to keep him on with a view of getting something for him in the future. If he agreed to be put up for a trade he’d be viewed as a salary dump given he’d still be contracted for a few years. And any club taking him on would be risking his availability every season if the AFL mandate booster shots.

If he won’t give anyone at the club the time of day I’d be getting rid of him now. He’ll be nothing but an overpriced headache in the future
