People suggesting we should trade Darling are forgetting that as a contracted player, Darling has to agree to any trade. And I can't see any club being willing to pay him what he's getting at West Coast... particularly knowing the way he's treated the club. Even if the vaccine mandate is rescinded, there's just no guarantee that we won't see another wave of COVID and mandatory vaccination being reintroduced.

It's a ticking bomb for any club.

Sure, plenty of clubs would be willing to take the risk, but not at $750k per year, for a 30-31 year old. Meanwhile, what would West Coast get at the trade table? A late second-rounder maybe? Yes, he's a former AA and he's capable of kicking 50 goals a year. He's also (apparently) capable of going AWOL and taking medical advice from the internet.

How many 30+ year old forwards have made a significant contribution after being traded? What about being traded after having an entire year off. And after he they've effectively screwed over their former club? How did Carey go at Adelaide?

IMHO, the best compromise is to probably keep him on the inactive list, hope the mandate lifts and that he can re-integrate back into the team. But if the club decides to sack him, I wouldn't be entirely disappointed. If he ends up playing across town with the Purples so be it. That's his cross the bear.

With Jed Anderson cleared to play by getting vaccinated, and thus returning to training today, does he and his partner "still stand with you" Jack?

Jed not so keen to stand by Darling when Jack chose to stand in the dole queue.

He has gone from being my favourite player to one I can't bear to look /hear about - I even changed my avatar
I hoped he was just waiting for Novovax but that doesn't seem plausible at all anymore since it has been available and he still isn't jabbed
If there's any truth at all to the rumours of not responding to teammates or others at the club, I think we have no choice but to cut ties since he has effectively walked away already
His selfish (at worst) and misinformed (at best) decision was one thing but the way he has gone about it is the most disappointing thing of all :(

I hope Gary Oldman is vaccinated :grimacing:

Can already see the article in 10 years;

My big regret!!!

I wish I hadn't been stubborn and just got the vaccine, not being able to finish off my career still haunts me. I felt I had a good 3-4 years in the AFL, and I made a really poor decision to end that.
I hate that I let everyone at the club down, especially my best friends. It's something that will stay with me for the rest of my life.

Agree with the sentiment but added for further accuracy ;)

With Jed Anderson returning (presumably because he got Novavax for his second jab, understandable as he had a bad reaction to the first), it leaves JD, CEY and Liam Jones as the three stooges.

Oh well.

And two of them were open and honest and retired.

**** you Darling you campaigner.

It's clear he's not getting a vaccination.

If we put him on the inactive list it's in the hope that:

(1) the AFL drops its mandate (you'd think start of 2023 at the absolute earliest)
(2) Darling is able to come back after 1+ year out of the game at over 30 years of age and have an impact which justifies his contract; and
(3) the loss of trust and confidence between Darling and the club (including otehr players) can be overcome.

That's a few big hurdles, none of which the club can completely control.

Dom Sheed playing a very straight bat !
“It’d be nice to have some clarity but at the moment, as a player, all we can focus on is what we can do as a team and what’s going on is a bit bigger than the players,” Sheed said.

“We’ve just got to roll with the punches and let the club deal with that.

“Jack’s, obviously, very hard to replace. I think every team in the competition would struggle to replace a Jack Darling. We’d love to have him, but, unfortunately, that’s not the case.”

“We support him in what he wants to do. It’s hard to support his decision, but we support him as an individual.”

Isn’t Gaff, lycett, gov and Yeo his mates?

Andrew Gaff and Scott Lycett are among the four groomsmen and Elliot Yeo, Mark Hutchings, Jeremy McGovern and Brad Sheppard are also on the 120-person guest list.

Remembering when his early stats circa 2012 were better than Carey's at the same age. His ninja flips were cool aswell.

He's got his premiership medal, he's got his wife & kid/s that he loves.

We should of won it in 2019, if only we had paid the overs for Tim Kelly then.

Stand up for what you believe in Jack, don't get the needle if you don't want to.
