I think being in that condition is a sign of disrespect from our vice captain no less

I'm sure if he'd like his time back from last night.
Every chance that could be the case. But, I don't think his words were disrespectful to us in the future etc.

Yeah, f### the supporters and what they think and feel.
Who needs supporters, right?
Sums up where the club is at!
constructive criticism is fine.

if you played alongside Baker, Rioli or bolton for 5 years or so, or even knew them personally
I'm sure you would react and think differently and in a more respectful manner rather than hide behind a keyboard as someone who throws a few bucks at the club every now and again.

the word supporter...look it up ;)

Yeah I agree too... That part didn't annoy me

He could've mentioned a more sincere thanks to the club and the members, sponsors etc... It's not difficult.

Just demonstrated he was completely unprepared which is shitful in itself.

Regardless, good time to let any want aways out the club and reset.

We have been spoiled by the likes of Cotch, Grimes and even Hardwick who are both good public speakers and know how to command a room

I think last night very clearly showed what a void has been left by the departed.

In past BF nights we have had the very impressive Peggy and Benny leading the way, and as much as Dimma often caused cringe with his addresses, he did speak in a inspiring and emotional way that brought the room with him.

Add the cast of impressive leaders and humans we had on deck like Cotch, Jack, Dylan Grimes, Bachar, Sheds, Grigga, Lambo etc etc etc....

All great speakers and many humble impressive humans.

The tone last night was horrid, clumsy and clunky.

Poor Nank struggles, the coach was obviously crook and nervous but should have done better - everyone else looked like they were going through the motions and following a script of how a B&F should flow.

So glad 2024 as now over as from this week, it's all about the trade and draft work and build for 2025.

Agree, I thought he could said more to thank the club that gave him everything. But, he's gone, we move forward.

John O'Rourke spoke superbly, the only backhand he gave was to St Kilda, lol.
Yeah I was very impressed with O’Rourke
I haven’t had much of an opinion on him to this point but felt his speech as the clubs “president” captured the thoughts of the members he represents well while still being subdued enough that you are required to be in such a role

I missed the speeches last night as went to sleep

Just re watched the Baker speech.

Based on the posts here I was expecting some cheap shot to the club.

All I saw was a bloke who clearly didn’t prepare anything and was just nervous/didnt feel like speaking.

Awkward speech, but people here are acting like he told the club to go **** itself lol

Presidents and supporters bleed yellow and black, so there’s always going to be some angst at these sort of club functions.

Taking the emotion out of this, it’s the best scenario for the club to rebuild. We shouldn’t be too dirty, because it could be the only way we get off the bottom of the ladder and back into contention

So I watched the Yze speech expecting it to be terrible but it wasn't. This thought process that he is going to talk like a senior coach with 3, 4, 5 - 10 years experience is stupid.

In Hardwicks speech after the 2013 season, he couldn't even Say Nick Vlaustins name correctly.

On a side note, no one leaving expect Rioli hurts. He has come so far with his public speaking and is a clear leader on and off the field. You can see why he is so important to the Gold Coast and why he would love the challenge.
Not being able to get the name right at the tigers is highly rated skill…….cue Alan Bond

They weren't intentionally being disrespectful
I think it was a deer in the headlights moment
It would of been very uncomfortable for them
To get up on stage knowing that they are leaving

Personally wasn't a fan of that.
There's was a time to praise Broady and tonight wasn't the time.

Stay classy John. They're still premiership players.

I couldn't agree more. We should expect better from a "quality" leader.

And perhaps it sheds some light on why we are where we're at right now as a club (nothing like our stated to be "Geelong like" aspirations)...and worse still...where we might end up.
While I appreciate the sentiment behind knucklehead statements like that (having wasted too much of my own life being one of them).
All it's likely done is put more players offside that didn't need to be.
It's not something our previous administration would have done (note the 2017 post GF Broady press conference with Peggy)
Although the one thing I didn't like was their changing the rules to make it harder to challenge the board in future...so harder to get rid of this guy if he proves to be an ineffective leader...or worse.

Players wanting to leave is not the cause of our current malaise...it is an effect.
An effect of our environment no longer being as "special" as it was (which we were so extremely fortunate to have...and allowed us to get ahead of the game for almost 4 years).
And environments are 100% the responsibility of leadership...their primary one (despite their best and frequent efforts to avoid that).

I had no idea at the time how significant Penny's appointment was. Probably too busy banging on about the need to get rid of Hardwick...and trade out the disloyal Dusty :/
But on the hole, give me a woman as leader any day of the week, over usually corporatised and entitled male, from the boys club (and that's despite being done over by a few of them personally) :)

I reckon that as a club we've now become too corporatised...like the AFL.
And as long as that continues...we'll probably only ever be mediocre at best (and mediocre can include losing a gf...hey Sydney) :)
I have a theory that's what's been happening at St Kilda for many decades, with their long time patron saint, constantly interfering and de-stablising and preventing leaders from doing their job. And Melbourne it seems got lucky for 1 year. And I don't need to be reminded of our 37 years in the wilderness, in the vaccum of an earlier version of this sort of leadership, who always end up drinking too much of their own bathwater.

Oh...and congratulations to D.Rioli...you earned it :p
And as another poster remarked, good to see we got almost all the wannabeawayers into the b&f top places...to increase their trade value :)

The funny thing is he said i'll speak for me & Shai and than still stuffed it up, it was clear he had a few drinks.

Dunne & O'Rourke are fine. not sacking Meehan was the poor decision that killed us.
the JDS funding is the other main issue. See if the club changes anything post Gale
Yze umming & ahhing I couldn't give a **** about.
Give the campaigner a fit Lynch and I'll start making judgement.
Still drinking the Kool Aid I see ... in what reality will Lynch ever get back to the player he was ... wrong side of 30 with a body that hasn't been able to string half a dozen games together in years

John O'Rourke
Shane Dunne
Adam Yze
Nathan Broad

A new era awaits.

TY Bakes,Danny and Shai for making the Tiger sacrifice and leaving us with draft picks that will move the club ahead.

Dusty ,well what can we say.
A Tiger immortal.

Played the media like new toys.

A new CHAPTER begins!

Going to be lots of hills to climb but we can watch our new Tigers ply their trade and get STRONGER and BOLD!

THE FIGHTING FURY!
