It's crazy how a Captain sticking up for one of his players is somehow turned into a negative.

If this was Darcy Moore (who absolutely would say something too), everyone would be blowing their load over how amazing he is.

This is clearly just another example of Hawthorn ****ing with people's minds. Long may it continue.

Deflect all you like. You’re still not fooling anyone.

What am i trying to fool here exactly?

In any case you are comparing apples with oranges, no one at Essendon even did anything to Mitchell, he just taunted Essendon, and no one responded.

Ginnevan taunted port and Hinkley responded.

Bizarre trying to link the two like they are the same thing.

Essending player mouths off at Mitchell, he gives them the injection jibe.

Ginnivan didn’t taunt Hinkley. He wrote a comment on Instagram. How many times does that need to be explained? Hinkley took offense to it and used it, that’s it.

Hinkley had nothing to respond to, but he decided to verbal Ginnivan after the game, most likely due to the amount of pressure he’s under to keep his job.

You’re right about one thing, they’re apples and oranges, but we all know Sam Mitchell lives rent free in most bombers heads.

its more Essendon living in your head i think......

Mitchell was a great player and he's a great coach.

Ginnivan was a w***er and copped it. Doubt he cares as much as you do lol

Very telling that the media are leaving out the "you little f*ckwit" part of what Ken said.

Doesn't fit the narrative.

You can understand the "not flying anywhere" bit as banter, but an older coach calling a younger player a "little f*ckwit" crosses the line from friendly banter.

It is a bit aggressive, just like Sam said.

Doing it as a legend of the game is about to be chaired off is disrespectful.

And as a leader, James Sicily was absolutely right to have a few words with an opposition coach.

And it's funny how those people who are criticising Mitchell's statement where he praised Sicily's leadership in standing up for his teammate are completely silent about Ken's post match interview.
Bruest is a very fine player. I wouldn't call him a legend of the game.

The person in this situation with a clear inability to emotionally regulate is Ken Hinkley.

I think we may be using the term differently. Whilst it may or may not have been inappropriate and obnoxious, depending on your perspective, Kenny looked in complete control of his behaviour. He chose to gloat.

I actually dont think that is the case

The best part of this thread is all the Hawks fans dashing about attempting to defend their club’s honour.

People found the reaction of your captain, coach and greats to be hypocritical and/or funny. You won’t convince them to not find it funny.

It’s kinda like an awesome, meta-extension of the thing itself. Fragile Hawks being victimised by people jealous of their impending dynasty indeed… Fabulous stuff.

Essentially a human centipede of emotions among anyone hawk related.

He was clearly in a heightened emotional state.

Minutes after the incident, he was asked about it and left off the part where he said "little f*ckwit", implicitly acknowledging he went further than he intended.

He has since claimed the whole incident was an "emotional reaction". His words, not mine.

You're being absurd. Are you seriously expecting him to say "****wit" on tv. Or even say that he said it rudely.

And like I said, we're using the term differently, being disingenuous about your behaviour later, if that's what you think he was doing, doesn't say anything about regulation.

Anyway, you can be offended, but I like the banter - it's the way it'll go as it's what youngsters love - including the Hawk youngsters, so get used to it. It's a bit of fun and very entertaining.

More mental gymnastics.

Ginnivan comment on insta, bad sportsmanship.
Hinkley goading player after siren directly, good banter.
Sicily responding, fragile.

This will never not be funny.

Luke Breust's much-deserved moment of tribute destroyed.

It will never not be destroyed.

Your definition of gloating is broken. He was confident, at worst.

No the leaders at my club didn’t have a sook, Sicily fired back at a senior coach targeting one of his players and the coach backed him.

The ex-leaders took umbrage to a senior coach kick starting all this after the game while a 300 gamer was about to be chaired off, because they expected much better behaviour from someone of his tenure.

Instead we’ve read that it’s just banter, he was fine to do it…when every single Hawthorn fan knows that if the boot was on the other foot, and that was Mitchell poking shit at Port after a loss calling a palyer a “****head” multiple times you’d be beside yourself with outrage.

I'm not outraged about any of it. I think it's all a bit of fun - Ginni's tweet, Kenny gloating and us non-Hawk supporters laughing at Hawk reactions.

I'm very surprised how triggered HFC were and that they connect being triggered with leadership. Club needs to move on - not just from Clarko himself, but from the things he used to justify his angry vents as it seems he's left that rubbish with the next generation of leaders. and the ex-Hawks are just the ugly Aussie cricketers and need to shut up - their spirit of footy is dropping the knees in packs but being polite afterwards - that's last generation - their spirit of footy is a load of shit - out of date.

Nah. They've made it better. It's one of the stories they'll tell at reunions and piss themselves laughing about. Remember when Sic lost the plot and nearly dropped you because he flipped out and was too busy calling Kenny a campaigner ...

You're living in Clarkoland where spitting the dummy is admirable leadership. The rest of us don't live there. Sicily had lost the plot. He couldn't focus on the tribute he was supposed to be giving his teammate because he was uncontrolably triggered by a smartarse comment that Ginnivan would have probably greeted with 'touche'. It was miles from leadership.

Rather than helping Ginnivan, he's blown the whole thing up to the point where Caro is blaming Ginnivan for costing Hawthorn a premiership and people aren't just saying - shut up Caro.

Hawks were great entertainment this year. Spectacular rise with outstanding footy. Spectacular ending with comic gold.

You're pobably right that it's something they'll laugh about in reunions.

But in his quiet moments of reflection on his career, perhaps Breust will be saddened by the way Sicily ruined his 300-game tribute.

Darcy Moore? He speaks well, and we love him because he sets am example for effort but he's not taking numbers and fronting blokes.

Sicily stood up for his bloke yes. Not sure he needed it, believe me at the Pies and Haeks he's heard so much worse.

Sicily escalated an exchange that had an unwitting instigator and a somewhat mean spirited comeback.

Third man in? Red card James.

Hawks not messing with anyone's minds here (although you have the wood on us as far as footy goes ).

Sicily was lost in his own ego the way he went off. Lewis and Hodge moaning, what did they say about Ginnivan last year? Honest question, I recall a chorus of disapproval but unsure of those twos position.

If Ken had been in complete control of his emotions and actions, as you claim,

If Ken had genuinely done nothing wrong, as many in this thread have claimed,

If Ken had not been at all aggressive, as many in this thread have claimed,

If it was all just an overreaction by Sicily and Mitchell, as many in this thread have claimed,

And if Ken was of the genuine view that he had said and done nothing wrong,

Then there would have repeated, verbatim, accurately and fully, what he had said:

"Jack said 'see you in 14 days' during the week, and after we'd already won the game, when the players had shaken hands and were about to chair off Luke Breust, I just told him:

"You're not flying anywhere, you little ****wit!

"I don't know social media, I just do what I do, and y'know what I shouldn't have done it, I should apologise to the boys, I shouldn't have probably done it, but the reality was you throw something we throw it back occasionally.
"

The reason such an action seems absurd is because you know that calling someone a little ****wit is clearly an aggressive act.

Deep he knew already that his emotions had gotten the better of him and he went too far.

So he deliberately downplayed what he said.

I said it before and I'll say it again, I think we need to stop pointing the blame at sis for any of this. Kenny acted unsportsmanlike at the end of the game and instigated the incident. How people here personally feel about the gloat is irrelevant, the context is totally different.

But in his quiet moments of reflection on his career, perhaps Breust will be saddened by the way Sicily ruined his 300-game tribute.
Sicily wasn't the one who came out and shouted at an opposition player that he's a "little f*ckwit" after the match was over, everyone had shaken hands, and was about to chair off a legend of the game.

Ken did that.

And in the circumstances, James was completely right in having a word to Ken Hinkley.

Just like Sicily wasn't the one who deliberately downplayed what he said in a TV interview just minutes later, by falsely claiming he said "you're not flying anywhere" instead of "you're not flying anywhere, Jack, you little f*ckwit".

Ken did that.

Hodge wasn't hypocritical. He was scathing about Ginni's tweet, so he line drawn an impartial line about out of game shit stirring.

But I still don't get why the leader of a team that prided themselves on unsociable football is doing a lecture series on etiquette and deportment ...
