Saying that ongoing unwanted attention takes a toll on your mental health, is no different to saying staying up late scrolling through social media is bad for your mental health, or poor sleep is bad for your mental health, or arguing with trolls on BigFooty takes a toll on your mental health.

Mental health is not some binary state of “healthy” or “unhealthy”. There are activities/practices/habits that are beneficial or protective for your mental health as a whole, and then there’s the s**t that Ginni is subject to. It doesn’t mean he has “mental health concerns”, he is merely subject to stressors he could well do without, and he has enough insight to recognise it.

Not to worry TRS some people are great at being likeable and amusing, we just have to make allowances for everything else they do.

Ginnivan himself referred to his mental health being affected, not 'stressors'. If he 'has enough insight to recognise it' then why didn't he utilise that insight and use that word rather than falling back on the most overworked wellness related term 'mental health'? All very well for you to say I have used terms inappropriate to the man's situation when I have been careful to employ the term he used in reference to himself.

Yes, but his mental health being “affected” does not mean he has mental health “problems”, “concerns” or “issues”.

Any more than driving my car “affects” the level of petrol in the tank.

I think you nailed a possible explanation why. The term is no longer just about mental illness, it simply means wellbeing nowadays.

Mental illness should mean a diagnosed condition that requires treatment by a qualified professional.

Mental wellbeing might just refer to the standard ups and downs of life - at work, home etc

It's just a different aspect of health. I can have impaired mental wellbeing much the same as I can feel sick or sore, without needing a diagnosis.

I actually think Ginnivan thrives on this attention, as does De Goey to a lesser extent. But this was an innocent act misinterpreted by sinister forces - jonbe 54 might call it a media conspiracy.

Snapping photos of himself searching for car keys in his loose blue athletic shorts, while poking his tongue out in exasperation at the serrated key edges and ring catching in the white netting of the built in undergarment.

Perhaps later wondering to himself how such an innocent pose could subsequently be viewed as lurid or inviting, even a perceived threat to a final's spot! 'The world's gone mad' Jack wailed. And it had.

Not until we have 3 gf wins against them will I be satisfied although I must say I would prefer our president does not throw their jumper in the bin we must retain some class although speaking for myself I would like to burn it but that,s just me.

You won't read this because you have me on ignore, but I am thinking of the impact of yet another minor controversy on Ginnivan, not aiming it as a criticism of him. People are on about his admission that all the attention he had received had contributed to his mental health issues and are defending his public admission of them. Surely he doesn't need yet another self induced controversy to intensify any mental health concerns? That's the only point I was making out of this latest very minor incident which the media could exploit and further upset him.

I dislike the media.
I would be happy to see the Fourth Estate burnt to the ground, it's captains and mogols, meet the same fate as Mussolini, gutted and burned in the street like dogs and a new estate rise in it's place which reflects the lofty ideals it once held.

Ideals it held before the cancer of Murdoch.

Interesting point. Years ago I raised the question as to why we were so good at making finals but not winning the big one. 76ws suggested it was the home ground advantage of Vic Park. Now, of course, some want to take a swing because our home ground is the ground. They have been a successful club, I hope the help the AFL gives them will be dealt with come finals time. I just hate their success.
