Oppo Camp Jack Ginnivan (Traded to Hawks 2023)

Sack him, example needs to be made, he’s a boarder line best 22 player and he decides to do drugs? Seriously, 4 week ban, FMD.
You should probably change your username.

Look what happened to Thomas and Keeffe. They took illicit drugs and those drugs ended up having a banned performance enhancing substance in them. They were both then suspended from playing for 2 years as a result. These AFL players can have a life, but there is no way of knowing what ingredients is in these drugs. Jack is a dickhead and he is lucky he got away with only a 4 match suspension.
It wasn’t Keefe and Thomas’s fault. The barista misheard their actual order of cocoa.

I can give you way worse examples of alcohol deaths. Yet most think it's normal as it's legal.

If it was illegal and he was caught in a cubicle having a shot of whisky, you same people would be freaking out.
And your point being?

Not sure people are freaking out. Just disappointed another one of our players is incapable of not doing something so dumb.

My boy’s just turned 14, blah blah this and blah blah that but on current projection he’ll be invited to the draft combine tests or what ever you call them, I know drugs are rife in grass roots football, I know things about our current players that would make your heads spin, senior players now, but as a parent I feel a line needs to be drawn, i certainly don’t want my lad being exposed to a drug taking culture, do better? 4 weeks should do it, what a joke, I was a big fan of Jack, he needs to be sacked, 20 years old and he’s taking a liberty? Let some bottom feeder club will pick him up.
Sacked 🤦‍♂️ FFS. Hanging’s not good enough for him. While we’re at it let’s stone him, stocks, whips, rotten veges. After all he murdered, r*ped and pillaged. 4 weeks, name all over the media is more than enough punishment and in my view way overs.
Your words culture has it wrong. The culture is one of owning a mistake, taking responsibility for it and learning from it. That is a terrific and mature culture.

It’s the normalization of it that I can’t accept. Let’s just legalize it and let there be a free for all. And let’s see the outcomes……

Maybe then this ludicrous argument between alcohol and illicit drugs will no longer be a comparison.

At this moment I’d swap him for Grundy and you know how much I like Grundy.

The Bailey Smith outcome pissed me right off. And HQ have now painted themselves into a corner. Because their poster child Bailey had them exposed and looking like fools.

So they brought out the wet lettuce leaf.

Reality is that half the league are on it. Was in hotel down Mornington peninsula way few weekends back and watched large saints group rotate through toilet cubicle all night

It wasn't a mistake though, was it?. He didn't mistaken take drugs. That's where the mistake argument is a fallacy.

Oh please. Various substances are deemed illegal, various substances are deemed legal. Whatever you think about Ginni's choices the path where there is some logic or moral high ground to the governments ruling regarding what is legal/illegal/when/etc is detestable.

We do have political parties who have a platform that includes legalizing / decriminalizing various substances. They don’t poll very well with the voters.

You think it’s detestable that governments follow the will of the people?

You’re (dare I say) conflating different meanings of the word mistake or at least in the timing.

He admitted that it was a mistake to have chosen to have used it. Yes he presumably freely chose to use it and was caught. No matter the reason he has learnt that it was a mistake, apologised and is copping his punishment. End of story.

It is mistaken to simply focus on the act of using cocaine in itself.

And as for the parasitic groupies and so-called “mates” who encourage such behaviour or, worse still, film these things and then leak them - well, they are just the lowest of the low.

Think you got those around the wrong way?

You think somebody out in public photographing something that shouldn’t be going on and drawing it to the attention to the club admin (which isn’t so dissimilar to what Howe did with Stephenson over his betting indiscretion) - and could be reasonably interpreted as a duty of care - is worse than encouraging illicit substance use? People do that all the time by the way.

Even going to the papers - which isn’t exactly what Jesus would do - surely isn’t
as bad a encouraging illicit substance use - especially with someone who would be compromising their job / career.

Taking the footage and then sending it on is the act of an absolute dog. Comparing it with Howe/Stevo is ridiculous.

Honestly, who cares if he did some drugs. It’s no different than having beer. I’m too old for either but it’s not for us to judge. I mean, MDMA has been approved for therapy, ffs.

What?!! It’s possible to be too old to have a beer?

Kid did drugs, so f..ing what?

Even best case scenario, it’s hardly what an elite athlete should be doing to their body, is it?

“Kid ate a bucket of fried chicken for breakfast every day in the off-season, so f..ing what?”

There’s more than one issue going on here.
And I feel the need to spell them out.

Firstly, Ginnivan was dumb.
Doing this in a public venue, after club camp is appallingly dumb. The afl will be applying Dane Swan like scrutiny to him from here on. He’s brought this on himself.

Secondly, the action of the person who filmed it is tasteless and malicious. Someone intent to harm another through damaging reputation and ironically have possibly committed an illegal act filming a person in a cubicle without their consent. Are there any repercussions on them?

Next, the societal acceptance of alcohol, cocaine or anything similar needs renovation.
But saying “everyone else does it” is a crap justification for anything. There’s more to this. The gambler that blows the family rent money and the alcoholic who can’t feed the kids are on a different plane to social users. Society needs change at both ends of the spectrum. Not just one.

Lastly, and most significantly for me, Ginnivan did this knowingly and has ultimately made himself unavailable for games worth premiership points. He’s undoubtedly breached contract terms and created a Collingwood media frenzy. Ultimately it’s a negative on the ledger of a winning games and a flag this year.
This shits me.

Every AFL player is educated and knows better. And I do have a higher expectation given the high salaries my Legends membership helps pay.

He’s not a hard done by saint.
He’s a young bloke that was dumb, brought this on himself and the club.

He owes us some payback.
I want that talent on the field helping us win flags.

If we want to talk about health, I'm happy to have that discussion. You don't ban a player for 2 weeks because they ate fried chicken.

Sam Murray? Lachie Keefe? Josh Thomas? Jack Ginnivan?

Not exactly a good strike rate to have one every other year. Also, if one player is doing it at the club, you can almost guarantee one of his mates is as well.

And that's just the clean skins, I reckon you could name quite a few others quite easily.

I had a beer the other night, actually.... But it's a rare occurrence.

On another note: who is the bystander who filmed Ginnivan? What a loathsome dog act. If someone filmed me in a toilet I'd smash their phone.
