This is the Buddy one. Much more obvious intent, and an elbow to the side of the temple is about as dangerous as it gets.

I don't particularly like the matrix they use and think it should be about the action and not the result. But the matrix is a reality. Danger was hospitalised thus it's high impact. The bloke Buddy got was fine. So I wouldn't conclude it was just anti Green or pro Buddy bias.

I'm happy to stay away from the Ginnivan threads from now on as the arm lift & knee drops are a personal pet hate of mine. Carry on!!!!!!!!!
I don't think you are going to enjoy watching him. The first one was just so blatant. He turned around to face backwards to the tackler, dropped at the knees and arched backwards so his head hit the tacklers chest. His opponents are going to have to be really focused with plans to avoid high contact.

He is a very clever player but athletically limited. I think he can be a solid role player for us with development. He will need to add strings to his bow because he can’t convert 100% of his possessions to goals purely by milking high contact free kicks. The umpires will start looking for reasons not to pay them if he’s doing it every time.

Agree. I wouldn't assume his current athleticism is the final product though - he still looks pretty physically immature. I'd actually like to see him developed as a mid. Drawing frees like that takes enormous awareness of what's going on around him in congestion and unless his athleticism does improve, small forward is a bloody tough gig without pace.

By not being an outlier in terms of speed, strength, agility or leap.
Not outstanding in any doesn't necessarily mean he's limited - just not outstanding in any.
Lots of players have had long and fruitful careers without ticking any of the "buzz" boxes.

It makes him an outlier in terms of current small forwards, where chasing and pressuring is such a big part of the role. He's not an outlier for a mid though.

I get your drift, it will be interesting to see how and where he progresses.

I have no issues with him drawing frees. If the umpires keep paying them then why wouldn't you. It's about time we're receiving the good end of the stick vs years of Travis Cloke/Mason Cox getting mauled in marking contests for no return.

Prior to Covid, the plan was to start playing him as a mid. His forward craft was never in question. I think you will find that with a couple of years under his belt he will become a very good inside mid who can go forward and hit the scoreboard.

I think when he gets fully fit he will be a very dangerous player and the reason he may be athletically limited is because of lack of game time in the last season or so, I think his 1st goal of his career was beyond 50 so he has a reasonable leg in addition to the brain which in terms of football is 1st class.

I really think we have found one from the rookie draft here he just looks a long term player for us and TBH I don.t give a s--- what other teams fans think of him as long as we support him I think we will get a lot of enjoy from him, you only need to watch him to see he understands the game and will get better.

And his opponents will be prepped to make sure they get much lower when tackling him. It can't be his bread and butter.

Do you feel the same way when Selwood does it against us?

He cops the hits/contact. Ive never complained about Selwood. He isnt flopping. He is actually copping a high hit to get the free kick. Difference between that and flopping like J Daniher earlier in season

I don't see Grien Myers being élite in all of the above as a small fwd, but is still best 22 for Geel.
Ginnivan has very comparable skills - if Myers can make it with his lack of elite skills, then so can Ginnivan IMO.
I don’t see why the two of you are drawing false equivalencies between being athletically limited, and being a player who is unworthy of being in our best 22.

Taylor Adams is athletically limited. So too Josh Thomas, Brody Mihocek, Jack Madgen, Jordan Roughead, Chris Mayne, Trent Bianco… I could go on.
