Everyone would do HH and F1 wouldn't they? Some are very bullish on Allan so may not like that one as much
HH and a future first would be highway robbery for GC, there's no way they'd do that. i doubt we have any possible scenario in which we get Rowell. We'll keep picking up good players, just maybe not the competition elite

I agree, I think we'll be targetting a decent tall defender. If Allan kicks on and Perryman can play mid, we'll be fine for mids anyway and a cheapie for support will be enough.

Ed Richards seems gettable especially as a free agent. And with several looming retirements at the Pies, a war chest will open up making it doable. Would be an excellent addition to our midfield. Be nice to see the great nephew of Lou Richards at the Pies. Make it happen Leppa!
Am sure Ron Richards would likes this also

Who says no? (Obviously we would if Allan really cracks on this year, but we might not get a choice if Allan decided he wanted to go home).

Coll give:
• F1 (2026)
• R2 (via WCE for Allan)
• R3 (via WCE for Allan)

GCS give:
• Rowell
• R4

Other permutations could be that GCS send back a 3rd. Maybe we send them our R3 and keep WCE’s.

Maybe GCS send someone like Rosas or Jeffrey to WCE. I’m sure they have some WA locals, right?

(For the record, I’d rather keep Allan and HH and go for Richards and Sam De Koning this off-season. I just want to show how it’s not impossible that we could target Rowell).

I believe rules state if you give away your F1, you need to keep the rest of your selections. Unless you get one back.
If you give away a F2, 3 you need to get a F2, 3 back in return.

Also depending on how McGuane goes, we are short on points so we would be trading picks in from 2026 not trading them out.

Are there many FS and Academy players that might push McGuane out to be a very late first round pick? Hoping that like drafts before hand a pick 25 is still consider a first rounder!

A few academies within the first round for sure
Will depend who elevates or falls during the year

Gold Coast say no to this one for sure. For two reasons - 1) because Rowell is worth far more to them than a future (uncertain number) first round and a couple of latter picks, especially since they don't really need draft picks anymore, they need to keep their developing core together as much as possible and add to it and 2) because GC would get much better offers from others than this. Essendon have 2 first round picks and 2 second round picks in 2025 right now ready to go.

Rowell on the open market would require two first round picks at the very least, and one of them at least needs to be very early. Or probably a first round pick and a clear top 10-12 ranked player. He isn't coming to us if the central piece of our offer is a 2026 pick which they would conservatively estimate to be worth probably a 15-20 pick who's first year would be 2027.

I would not be offloading Ed Allan.
Ed Allan’s “breakout” game in round 23 was against a Melbourne team who mentally were already at the pub.

A lot yet to play out.

Would we go for someone like Dev Robertson instead? Given the interest last off season

Yes - he wanted to come to us over going back home to West Coast. Plus, he’ll be even cheaper by the end of this year.

Yep exactly - in the final game of a 2 year stretch on the list, and where he had only played one game prior in the two years.

We been a Top Team so not be easy to break into our Midfield

I did suggest passing on R2 and R3 from WCE for Allan, rather than using our own.

Not suggesting that we push Allan out the door by any means, but he could always ask for a trade back home if they entice him.

I’m sure we could work out a way to split some picks or get some back from WCE or GCS in this hypothetical. Worst case, we just go into deficit for next year and say “who cares” because we traded our F1 anyway?

He’s OOC and Allan isn’t.

Other clubs were happy to take Bailey Smith but Bailey only wanted Geelong. Look what happened.

Edward Allan has no intentions of going back home. His brother, friends and his girlfriend live in Melbourne and they're happy here.
He wanted to play for a Victorian side to be with his brother.
Zero chance he's going back.

I rate Allan but at the Moment Rowell looks Miles Better

Tough to lost Allan but could be okay in this Situation

How about we wait and see how 2025 plays out for Allan before we start exploring what trade value we can eek out of him.
You can absolutely. But this forum is in large part about making predictions and guesses about what might happen in the future, and the above scenario classifies.

You are welcome to not provide your opinion until 2025 has played out though.

I think it's absolute madness that people such as yourself are considering trading what is our best young prospect outside of Nick (of which there are few).

No one has said it’s their preference to lose Allan.

This is all hypothetical and the discussion has stemmed from people saying Rowell would be impossible to get.

First of all, I have not suggested trading Allan at all - you might want to go back and look at my posts before you pop off like this. What I was defending was people's rights to share a view on this forum of what Allan might be able to fetch on the trade market.

Secondly, I definitely don't want to trade Allan, unless it is part of a package for Rowell, or another clear best 23 player, however the overall package would need to stack up obviously as GC wouldn't do a direct swap.

You may want to at the other thread that I started about our best U23 talent, where I have Allan a clear number 1 (which is in agreeance with your comment above), and not much else in that frame (which is also in agreeance with your comment above).

Yes you do want to trade him. As part of a package for Rowell.
Big pass from me. FFS
