Tend to agree. There is some talent being developed that will be putting pressure on our current 'best' 23. Ginni will not be immune from that pressure.

Yep.

Reef is the first such player that comes to mind.

Stronger, faster, & better overhead. He's a compelling option for the forward line and Ginni has to work his butt off to remain in contention over him.

Rewatching it again - with all respect, it’s pretty clear you’re talking shite.

Fly was pretty laid back and jovial when talking about Ginnivan attending the races for an hour on Friday - was chuckling as he said ‘read the room Jack!’

Pretty sure it’s a total non-event in the club’s eyes.
Yep Fly was the guy organising end of season trips and enjoying post season parties when he was at Lions. I'm sure he can empathise with our young players.

Merci beaucoup on the correction.

Wasn't aware he asked Ned.

That does shift my perspective on it because if true it shows that Ginni wants to be accountable.

Why wouldn't he ask Fly? Probably wanted to avoid the lecture.
Why would a player ask the club CEO for permission or check with him whether something is ok? Kelly made comment on the matter after the GF, but I haven't seen anything about Ginnivan seeking approval? Sounds like b/s to me.

Your instinctual detector for BS is sharper than mine but I concur.

Also, why wouldn't you call the coach? He's the person I'd check with. This is more in line with proper chain-of-command protocol.

Guessing there are some less than avid readers out there who see something like "Craig Kelly states that he has no problem with Jack Ginnivan going to the races", and get themselves to the point where they imagine that meant he sought permission?

Maybe we should just call him Fly 😉. I agree it’s not a good look.
That said, apparently he asked Ned if he could go as that’s his normal routine.
I doubt that he asked Ned, if he were to ask permission it would be from who he reports directly to, his coach. And if he were to go over his head I cannot believe that Ned would not have notified fly or ask him if he had spoken to fly about it. I think Ned is just trying to defuse a story before it gets out of hand.

Went to the cool uncle instead of dad

I do hope that last year's pre-season dramas are a wake up call for young Jack. Missed the first few rounds, found himself on the outer at times and stuck in the subs vest for the back end of the season. He is still very young and hopefully he'll of learned a lot this year and will push him to want to be in the best shape of his life and ready for round 1.

A fully fit and firing Jack Ginnivan in our side is a weapon few teams have, not outrageous to say with a very strong pre season he could be set for a big year and looking at AA contention come the end of 2024.

Let’s put this incident behind us. It’s now 5 days ago. He’s won a flag. Copeland this Friday then it’s the off season. This is the time he will make sure he comes back in top condition and raring to go day 1 preseason. Which strangely only next month

Looking forward to his event on Sunday with Jamie. Should be a cracker.

You will have to hold your horses Jen. Unless the new CBA has changed this(which I doubt) we can't recommence training until 1 December.

Think I read 1-4 players nov 20
I’ll see if I can find it. But yeah this was before the cba so we won’t know for sure until the official dates get announced

I'm with Macrae Fly. Not sure a visit to the races the night before a GF is "winning behaviour".

I allow that my bias against gambling will make me come across as negative but if he'd gambled big that kind of stimulus the night before an AFL game, let alone a GF, isn't ideal.
I think it is your bias. Who even said he had a bet???

Let alone had a big enough bet to be a stimulus?

I think imaginations are going off the rails around here.

No it wouldn't be the coach. It would be Wrighty.

You are right! Forgot that little miscreant was only a 2nd year player. Years 1-4 can start two weeks earlier.

I will allow for that, as my anti-gambling bias is strong.

Wrighty <> Ned.

I can't say I'm happy that the club is comfy with players going to the races the night before the GF. Using gouki88 's wisdom I'm clearly more "dad" than I am "cool uncle".

I will assume you're a "cool uncle" (unless I receive evidence to the contrary).

EDIT: I forgot to add the most important point: I hope Ginni slays it on the field next year.

If Kirby is the cool uncle, the dad would have to be an absolute loser who wouldn't be able to pick up, so the kid could never exist.

You just created a paradox.

Yeah, they bought it forward by a week, I think because they bought the draft forward. You always find some senior guys starting day 1 like Pendles.

Hard to say how many will be in this group given we dont know how many they'll delist, or who they'll keep.
