Yep , who had reached his ceiling. Ginni has a higher ceiling , the question thou , is he prepared to knuckle down and train his arse off ?
There would be questions as to whether last year was his ceiling. A bit like Stephenson's 1st season

And the reason why Stephenson fell off the cliff was due to his immature brain and mindset , lack of discipline and not prepared to put in the hard yards , thought his natural talent was enough to get him through, which he had plenty of by the way , naturally gifted footballing talents. Ginnivan shares these same traits , albeit not on the same talent level as Stepho

The only reason last year wouldn't be his ceiling is if he gets paid all the frees he ducks for at another team.
Because that's the only way he can manage to get the ball properly to score since he's the slowest player in the comp along with Lipinski.

I think Ginnivan may be too stupid to make it as a footballer which is saying something. Recently on Mitchell's podcast he talked about believing in crackpot conspiracy theories like aliens building the pyramids , that's the level of intellect we are dealing with .

If he had the professionalism and level headedness of Pendlebury he'd make it as an AFL footballer despite his physical limitations because he is very talented . However his professionalism and intellect seems more akin to Jaidan Stephenson and similarly he will waste his talent .
Maybe we convinced him that the aliens would get our new Dingley HQ up and running.

Yep agreed, well said. There are cases where very talented young guys who are coached, mentored and steered well can be successful. I am sure Hawthorn have weighed up that risk, and considering the current state of our forwards group I be,I’ve it is a risk worth taking if there is nothing else available.

More than happy to keep him if he doesn't attract a 2nd round pick minimum (preferably future 2nd). I'm as critical of him as anyone, I think he's a one dimensional small forward, without much positional flexibility, and a pretty poor overall athlete. But his pure footy smarts in terms of being in the right place at the right time along with his goal sense is elite. Those latter traits are unteachable and aren't going anywhere, so at 20, he obviously has upside. But he has to be put in the right system and played in the correct role to have the type of success he had his second year, he's not gonna be particularly successful without that. If you are a side that can afford to accommodate that type of player in your forward line (someone who isn't gonna contribute much in terms of work rate, ball accumulation or forward pressure, but will consistently be in the right spot for goal opportunities), you are gonna get performances closer to his previous season than the most recent one. That type of output is arguably worth more than a second rounder (but I'd take a second given the other issues surrounding him on and off field)

Might not be playing ever again if the rumours are true
