Latest news:

Port Adelaide is free to send out its future first-round pick at any time after clarification from the AFL, opening the door to a Jack Lukosius deal to be ticked off.
The Power entered the trade period unsure whether they could offload another first rounder, given AFL rules that clubs must use two first-round picks in a four-year period.
Port Adelaide traded away its first-round picks in the past two drafts and currently the club’s first pick this year comes in at 39, so there was some thought the Power would have to get in a first-rounder in a Dan Houston trade to appease the AFL rule, before being allowed to off-load a future first for Lukosius.
But the AFL confirmed to the Tiser on Thursday that there are no restrictions on Port moving that 2025 first rounder.
So the expected deal surrounding Gold Coast sending Lukosius to the Power for a future first can go ahead at any time.

If we are paying his full salary because GC stupidly backended it, then we need to be paying a LOT less basically in pick capitol. If a future 1st goes out we need at least a 2nd back.

That won’t happen. Luko is worth more than a 12 pick downgrade. We’ve offered him a 6 year contract.

People thinking we can get a bargain here are delusional. He is worth our F1.

People are really overselling the "taking on his full salary" aspect. We are recruiting him for 6 years and will be smoothing out his contract, so we aren't taking a hit at all. He will probably end up being on 700-800k a year at a guess.
We aren't saving them by taking a terrible player and their full salary. We desperately want to recruit him and have for years since he was drafted.

People need to stop comparing him to Bowes, they are a completely different level of player and also Geelong weren't chasing Bowes for years. It was more Gold Coast were pushing him out and tested the market on who would be interested in taking him. The Luko situation is nothing like that. We will end up paying a future first and that is perfectly fine.

So long as Houston gets us two picks that add up to <30.

Higher than that.

Thank the gods we have a ball movement system that highlights the talents of these lead & mark forwards.

Lead & mark forwards is just a nice way of saying can't take a contested mark. Which is fine if you're 188cm Bayley Fritsch but if you're verging on 200cm it's an insult.

Finlayson, Todd & Lukosius in the same side could be one of the worst forward lines you'll ever see if they parry up an off day all at the same time. Three space cadets wandering around without a mission.
Finlayson & Lukosius could be our wingman

We will be playing a 4 tall forwardline because we need someone to ruck. Finlayson or Ratugolea
Georgiades, Luko and Ratugolea. Marshall retired. Finlayson SANFL.

Is it our world class development program that makes supporters think that Jack (Watts) is going to go from being a “bust” to being worth a round one pick?
We should sack our forward line coach first if we expect any improvement from our inept forward line.

Can't wait to see Todd and Jack create space for Jez to lead into the pocket and take some easy grabs 45m out, then proceed to take his time and execute a snap shot for goal from 50. Recipe for success that.

I would love to see Luko and 23 to Port for Port's F1, just to send a **** you to Collingwood's trade offer for Houston.

He's not Bowes-tier, but the fact remains that GC want his salary off their books for 2025 and beyond, and trading Lukosius to us is currently the only way they can facilitate that.

It's not about how much of his contract we're taking on - it's about how much of his contract they'll be off the hook for.

But you also need to consider Gold Coast has just been handing out players or picks for unders for years.

So fair enough we shouldn't expect to be the club they finally look to extract high value from - especially for a player it seems their coach is very happy to let go.
