Jack Riewoldt will be the AFL's best KPF in 2012

A KPF is more than just goals.
Thats why Riewoldt has been sensational this year playing the team game up the ground more than in the goal square, not only is he coming second in the Colman, but he is also our number one for goal assists and equal 5th in the league (along with Roughy) and they are the two highest KPP.

5 KPF currently better. Go.
I didn't say he was outside the top 5, plus "currently" is something I am not sure I am comfortable with.

Better this season, or better players overall, or soon to be better, all have to be considered.

For now Kennedy and Roughead. In general Franklin and Cloke. Over his career and in terms of complete game N. Reiwoldt and for the future Cameron and Darling.

5 KPF currently better. Go.

So far this year I'd have:
Roughead
N. Riewoldt
Kennedy
Cloke
and Westhoff equal to J. Riewoldt in 5th(as per my top 50 thread).
But according to my rankings that places him and Westhoff (and a couple others) at equal 99th this year.
Now I'm not saying my list is the be-all-and-end-all but it certainly hasn't been a year of dominant key forwards.
Only Roughead and N. Riewoldt are in my top 50 at the moment.

It's entirely subjective (and I actually rate Riewoldt top 5) but you could argue that these guys are currently all better KPF's: Cameron, Franklin, Roughead, Darling, Kennedy - and I've only gone through 3 teams to get that list of 5.

Darling? Pretty sure Jack wouldn't mind if he was getting 1 on 1 opportunities vs other team 2nd/ 3rd tall defenders.

Darling is good young kpf who could be very good one day, however, he's output/ importance is not comparable to Jack's atm.

Last season (with no Le Cras and no Kennedy) Darling was taking the #1 defender and still presenting well, working his opponents into the ground and kicking goals, and he was in just his 2nd season. I'm playing devil's advocate but an argument can be made that he's a better KPF. You could also argue that Darling would love to not have to share goal kicking opportunities with the likes of Kennedy and Le Cras (in the way that Riewoldt only has to share with Vickery for marking opportunities).

Not only was he kicking goals, but as a second year player attracting the number one defender he kicked over 50 goals.

He and Cameron are going to be a serious headache in the future.

Most goals in h&a games since the OP's post:

216 J.Riewoldt
207 Franklin
164 Cloke
156 Milne
136 N.Riewoldt
135 Petrie
129 Betts
126 Schulz
122 Garlett
122 Podsiadly
121 Roughead
120 Hawkins
119 Walker
118 Kennedy

And still many paid scribes refuse to acknowledge the following:

He is able to involve team mates in open play and sacrifice parts of his own game for the benefit of the team.
JR also having more goal assists than any player on that list makes it a pretty astute call by the OP, given how many posters rubbished it.

Luke Mcguane was actually our leading our targets inside f 50 when he was in the team. In an effort to get a better spread of goal kickers we've consciously avoided Jack at times this year which has limited his goal scoring opportunities.

Despite our success, Jack is also still routinely subjected to poor forward 50 entries and structures that result in 3rd men up spoling him regularly. He's not the best kpf in the game, but he's often sold short by those obsessed with his demeanour and attitude (which has been great this year).

when Jack starts standing up in big games against the best teams then more people will take him seriously. i was reading a stat the other day about how many of his goals have come against bottom 8 teams this year compared to top 8.

Also i have never seen a player whinge and complain as much as him, i still see him as a 2nd/3rd tall type player with a good leap but bad 1v1 body and not athletic enough to make up for it ala buddy. Also kicks alot of cheap junk time goals to.

The usual horseshit.

Record v opponent's position on the ladder, 2010-current:

Ladder pos|Gls|Gms|Avg|E(X)
\1st - 4th|48|15|3.20|1.03
\5th - 8th|60|22|2.73|0.88
\9th - 12th|55|19|2.89|0.93
\13th +|82|23|3.57|1.15
\Total|245|79|3.10|
Travis Cloke's breakdown, to take an example at random, is heavily skewed towards more goals against bottom sides.

As for the myth of "Junk Time Jack" - he's kicked 15 in the first quarter and 9 in the second, i.e. 60% of his goals this year in the first half.

Yep he's a whinger and yep I'd probably hate him if he didn't play for Richmond.

JROO is good but I would have him behind cloke, Roughy, Kennedy, Franklin at this stage very good play but still reckon he would be brilliant behind a true chf like kennedy or someone like that hes the best FF in the league imo

I like how every year it's always another group of players that are "clearly" better than him.

In 2011 you were stupid for preferring him to Cloke, Petrie and Kennedy.

Then in 2012 everyone forgot about those 3 and you were stupid for suggesting he was better than Hawkins, Walker and Pavlich.

Now in 2013 everyone's forgotten those guys and it's Roughead, Kennedy (again), Cloke (again), Nick Riewoldt and Cameron that are clearly ahead.

What it says to me is that each of these guys, at their absolute best, is only on par with what Jack Riewoldt dishes up every season. And that's excluding Jack's peak in 2010.

Jacks best is on par with nicks best? Please.
