Jack Watts

Wasn't it in the papers that quite a few players do already take it as the improved blood circulation supposedlty aids the recovery process though this is questioned by some health professionals?
That was the reference. Have not seen any on field signs though

There is too much similarity to the Tambling - Adelaide situation here.

In his third year on contract for Adelaide, Tambling is still struggling to get game time. It's fair to say that he reached the ceiling of his ability some time ago.

The same can be said of Watts.

No thanks - would have liked to have seen some more grunt and courage from Watts (which I'm sure he would have shown at junior level and on the training track) but he can't seem to overcome the pressures at AFL level just yet. I think at this stage he'd be a liability in finals and that's what you need to look at when assessing ready made footballers, esp at this club.

This would be an absolute steal. Hes still young enough and impressionable enough, i have no doubt a culture such as hawthorns could instill the work ethic needed to go along with considerable talent.

Anyone who saw him in the under 18's would know he has amazing talent.

IMO something like Pick 20 + Savage would be well worth from Hawthorns end.

First Round Pick + Savage... That's the most ridiculous thing I've heard in a long time.

You want to give a Best 22 player & our first pick for a guy that can't get a game in the league's worst team?

I hope you were joking & that I simply missed the sarcasm in your post.

Ask your self whose position in the team he'd take.
That's a good point.

Our list management needs to focus on the following:
Developing or finding a dominant ruckman.
Succession planning for the oldies: Mitchell, Sewell, Hodge, Guerra, Sewell and Gibbo.

Our team has been top 4 the last two seasons. If we want to stay there we need to find reaplcements for these guys. We're doing okay. It's the midfield that has to be continually restacked with quality.

Poor man's Stratton

Seriously were would we possibly play him besides Box Hill?

We need mids to replace Sewell and Mitchell or bonafide KPP not nothing inbetween players like Watts. If we chase anyone from Melb it should be Frawley or Jones.

I believe Watts would benefit from being at a club like ours and it would make him a better player. Melbourne is on the borderline of destroying the kid's confidence and talent, as they have done with many others over the years.

If the price was right I believe he would be a good addition.

I say yes. :thumbsu:
A change of environment would make the world of difference to that kid.
Make it happen.
I think it would help but needs more then a change of environment, needs a change of attitude. Doesn't work hard enough and nowhere near desperate enough, and that is hard to teach or change especially as Watts isn't a kid anymore.

Everyone was saying the same thing about Tambling, went to the Crows and now all he is doing is clogging up their list.

Seriously where would we play Watts and who would you leave out for him?

Watts is 196 CM. That's not in between. He has talent and could be an excellent key defender or key forward. It might take a season for us to de-Melbourne him, but that actually fits nicely, since the spot he'd be likely to take would be as a replacement for Lake when he retires.

Savage is not best 22. He's an inconsistent fringe player who is capable of being very damaging, but lacks a defensive side to his game so far. Let's not go over-rating our own players too much.

That said, Savage plus pick 20 might be a bit much for Watts unless he shows some improvement this year, or even just has a few good games to confirm he still has the potential.

OK, let's not over-rate Savage. Let's be fair & say that he's the 25th best player in the Country's best club.

Let's not over-rate Watts either though, a guy that can't get a game for the team that he leads; a team with the league's worst offence & worst defence, who don't need champions, they just need someone that gives a sh** & who'll put their body on the line & make like they care. That doesn't take talent or devotion, it's a non-negotiable.

I'd much rather Spangher as KP depth. Regardless of talent, Draft # or pay packet, I know which one will back into a pack, smother on a cold/wet day, chase when he's cramping or double-lead when he can't even breathe. I doubt Watts has ever done all four of those things in the same game before.

You wouldn't recruit Watts for KP depth. You'd recruit him to try to turn him into a gun KPP. I don't know the kid, so I don't know if he has it in him to do the things you mention. He does have the talent, and it might well be a bit speculative, and so the price would have to be right, but he might be worth a punt.

I don't think Melbourne can get the most from Jack Watts. We might be able to. It follows from that that he is worth more to us than he is to them. It follows from that that a mutually beneficial trade might be possible.

The real price would be giving him game time when he's not up to it. There's been a fair bit of pain watching Schoey develop - if watts takes just as long we would have a whipping boy until 2017.
