Pretty confident he will stay.

Rekon both parties would be happy to wait until after mid year.

Club will want to see his body holding up. Gresh will want to perform to up the deal.

I can’t see it

Williams, Cripps, Walsh, Curnow, McKay all on big contracts

Whether or not you can see it isn’t the issue.

From memory we’ve been pretty open about being able to afford another larger contract.

And with who is out of contract and / or likely to leave the club, there’s every reason to believe it.

Saints have a heap of room on the cap so whatever is offered would be at least matched by St Kilda

It would be a bit of a sideways move for him so unless it’s for more money I think it’s unlikely
I didn’t say St Kilda wouldn’t - or couldn’t - match.

No, I know you didn’t, I was just pointing out that you’d have to be offering quite a bit of money as it would be a sideways move for Gresham

I will believe it when I see it but at the moment the list looks very top heavy in terms of salary

Walsh would probably be on the least of the ones I’ve mentioned and he is over 800k. Can’t think of too many sides that would be putting that much into 5 players besides possibly the Giants?

I’d imagine Wietering would be on a bit too

And then there is the DeKoning contract which is rumoured to be around 600k

Maybe they let him walk to afford another recruit?

Maybe. Let’s wait until the end of the year to see whether that’s the case.

No doubt it’s top heavy. That doesn’t mean it’s full though.

Impossible to say for sure because salaries aren’t public.

But, every club has the same $ to play with, so there’s a good chance you’d be surprised by what some are being paid.

I don’t think he’ll be on anything near that. He is being way, way overvalued by some in the media.

Maybe. I think it’s more likely he signs a shorter contract to take him through to free agency.

Time will tell then, let's wait and see 👍

No one knows for sure exactly what players are being paid, but I reckon the people reporting in the media are going to be a lot closer to the mark than the punters guessing on bigfooty

Maybe so, but they are routinely incorrect.

They often report the upper limit, including bonuses which are often not realised.

And of course they don’t acknowledge that, because it’s less sensationalist to do so.

Yes, but still closer than punters guessing on big footy

And if as you say they over estimate, I probably wouldn’t be surprised what some players from other clubs are getting paid like you suggest

I doubt they are only over estimating what Carlton players are on?

He can have Mitch McGovern's salary package and his dedicated spot in the medical office

Started to get interested in this as he is waiting to the end of the season.

The way it is currently going 5 games in, I can see the possibility of him leaving.

With the way he is being used I cannot see us matching much above anything of marketvalue. He's being used forward and coming in to relieve through the middle in center bounces. However, Phillipou has started attending to odd center bounce, and Owens has attended a few (mainly in a ruck chopout but will likely change), Clark has started to cameo and done very well.

The big one for me is Ross Lyons big red emergency button to change the trend in the center clearance is moving Jack Sinclair in there, so I wouldnt be offering to $ top someone who isn't one of your 'go to' men for a momentum shift

with an eye planted firmly on the future, I don't know how much value the saints are willing to place on the role he is currently playing especially with the injury clouds, with the evolving midfield and him being overshadowed in the forward line by the other smalls.

I'd imagine he would be eyeing a long term deal given he is at the point of his career where security is very important, it may come down more to how many years are offered over dollar amount. similar to the Brad Crouch situation.

Saints match if they get pick 10-12 as compo?
Depends on where SOS and Ross rate him and what else they have on the stove I guess

Personally, even though he's been a bit off this year, with his age and where we are at I'd be wanting to keep him. If he wants to go though, we couldn't ask for more in a trade so you'd have to take it.

I think we're interested in him. Would suit our game plan. I don't know much about his injury history though. Is he a break glass sort or just unlucky because we already have some of those.
More unlucky than anything.

He hardly missed a game in his first 4 years, then missed the 2nd half of the shortened 2020 season with a back stress fracture after playing the first 11 games.
2021 he started like a house on fire in the first 2 rounds before snapping his achilles early in round 3 which wiped out his season.
As for last year well he played the first 18 games before a meniscus tear in his knee ended his season.

He would be a good pickup but as an unlucky player, we have 3 of those. It's unfortunate for him. He will probably stay as you guys are going great. Good luck this year, hope you guys make it, you're long overdue for a flag.

Hawthorn loom as a strong contender if St Kilda’s restricted free agent Jade Greshamchooses to explore his options at season’s end.

Gresham’s management is yet to start contract talks with Saints list boss Stephen Silvagni, but plans to do so soon, according to a source familiar with the situation who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
