He’s just so strong and explosive, and when he gets into space he has a really nice and long kick. Impacts aerially (really strong hands) and his handskills are superb.Starting to change my tune on Newcombe. Watched him closely the last couple of months and can see why Hawthorn supporters rate him highly.
Starting to work himself into games when the chips are down and that is a great quality to have in a young player.

ok Richo, there are games on the weekend
35 disposals at 80% and goal of the night in his first ever final.
Over to you Chad.
29 disposals at 78, 2 goals, 6 tackles, 10 clearances, in a grand final at two years younger than Newcombe.35 disposals at 80% and goal of the night in his first ever final.

Warner is still ahead on body of work, but The Duke is rapidly closing the gap.
Surely the next captain of Hawthorn (I think him or Will Day would be a great choice), his ferocious attack on the ball and appetite to win the contested possession really is impressive.
I take my hat off to him and Hawthorn fans, I think I really underestimated Newcombe and his talents.
Warner and it isn't even close
Agreed.
Oooh, fun! Chad has kicked more goals in ten minutes of finals football, than Newcombe has kicked finals goals..Some cheeky cherry picking here, but Newk also averages more touches in finals (33) than Warner has ever had in a final (best of 29, ave of 20).
Not sure how you can say "it's not close"
They're the same age (Newcombe slightly younger) and...
Newcombe has more coaches votes this season and more in his career.
They have the exact same number of Brownlow votes
Newcombe gets more of the ball, more contested ball, more clearances, is a much better user (disposal efficiency and kicking efficiency), more marks and more tackles.
Warner kicks more goals and has more metres gained.
I think it's been neck and neck over their careers so far (especially when you consider Newcombe has attracted taggers whereas Warner is like third in line so has had little work put into him comparatively).
This is all that needs to be said.
You can't go wrong with either of them really.
I actually didn't expect them to both be top 10 in the overall coaches votes for the season (including finals) when I started this thread.
Genuine A grade midfielders when we start 2025. Would love to see them against each other in a big final next year.
