Everyone says swans 0/10 but after the draft they will have Mills who is a better rated talent then any of the players essendon or saints will draft and they will get a father son in Dunkley who they will probably get at pick 44 and he is rated as a top 20 talent. So as bad on paper it looks for Sydney they are in complete control of what they are doing.

They get those benefits even without the trade.

Mills and Francis will be very bloody close.

For those that have had as much trouble as me in finding out what the actual deal was, this from AFL site -

In the deal:
- Essendon receives Bird and pick No.5, gives up Carlisle and pick No.44, and exchanges pick No.23 for pick No.24;
- St Kilda receives Carlisle and pick No.14 and gives up pick No.5 and pick No.24;
- Sydney Swans receive picks No.23 and pick No.44, and gives up pick No.14 and Bird.

Dodoro earned his bonus this year, eh Defacto:rainbow:

So Sydney lose pick 14, pick 24 and Craig Bird to gain pick 23 and pick 44. Picks 23 and 24 more-or-less cancel each other out so they've essentially given up Craig Bird and pick 14 for.... pick 44. Huh?

Presumably they don't think that Mills or Dunkley will be bid on before pick 14? Would they have had enough points if, say, they drafted Mills with pick 14 and then Dunkley was bid next at 15? I imagine they wouldn't have been able to draft someone else at 14 and still get both Mills and Dunkley. Come to think of it, it could be a very savvy piece of trading by the Swans, turf off an unrequired player, buy some goodwill, and improve their draft points position with more points later on in the draft. The trade just looks so peculiar on face value.

Yeah who knows only time will tell, im just saying Sydney new what they were doing the entire time as much on paper it seems like they didn't.
I have no doubt Mills will be a very good player, but Francis will be the next Brendan Goddard IMO.

St. Kilda had pick 24.

I expect you guys will build a statue of him now.
Usually I wouldn't care about pumping up the tyres of a list manager, but after all the shit Dodoro had to cop the last 2 weeks, it's great to see him come out as the big winner of the trade. Stood his ground and got us an amazing deal. Earned himself a raise this year.

If we want to talk professionalism, wtf was up with Dodoro's swipe at St Kilda ('I want to acknowledge the Hawthorn football club for their professionalism. I actually thought up until 2pm yesterday he was going to the Hawks to be honest') as reported in The Age?.

Classic stuck up Dodoro. You got your overs for Carlisle, now shut your trap fool. Btw thanks for getting the Giles deal done so smoothly. Same time next year ;)

Hey, who wants to go hang **** on the Collingwood posters for not being able to get the Treloar trade done yet? Feet draggers

Mills will be bid on with pick 3, and definitely bid on before 14 but a 16 point upgrade really doesn't support this deal.

If we were doing it for points, why not just trade Bird directly to someone, pick 73 is worth 16 points, I dont think I'm crazy to expect he'd be worth a pick in the 40-50 range....

Yeh i can see him constantly pointing his finger at his team mates.

fair call but only time will tell, i remember when Gumby was the next Lloyd and Spencer White for us was the next Buddy....... oh how we both failed on those ones!

Gumby was the next Riewoldt ;). But in Essendon's defence, ours was because Gumby was always injured. Spencer White was just lazy.

Bird's not worth pick 44 straight up.

He's slow, aging, doesn't do a lot with the ball. He's a very good get for Essendon whilst they rebuild, but the Swans won't miss him.

That said I'm surprised the Swans couldn't get more out of Essendon. Maybe not the extra 2nd rounder that had been reported but at least another 3rd chucked in from somewhere.

Dodoro hit it out of the park

Credit where credit is due

Ahh ok, AFL trade tracker has pick 24 coming from Sydney to Essendon.

Yeah that is peculiar then. As you say 16 points isn't really here-or-there if Mills is bid on before pick 14 anyway.

Saints
out 5, 24
in Carlisle, 14
Bombers
out Carlisle, 23, 44
in 5, 24, Bird
Swans
out Bird, 14
in 23, 44

So this is the finalised deal and nothing said in the previous 600 pages made the slightest bit of difference?
Okay. Glad we got that one out of the way… :D:thumbsu:

Does anyone here think Carlisle is worth all that money St Kilda have signed him for?

I realise there will be Saints who think I'm a "jelly" Hawks fan with "sour grapes", but I'm actually glad we didn't get him. Apart from the 6 or 7 good games he played in defence in 2013, I never really seen him do anything useful. He was talked up as the All-Australian CHB for about five minutes and since then, he's done SFA.

Admittedly I haven't watched much Essendon over the last couple of years, but he strikes me as an over-hyped, overpaid footballer like Kurt Tippett. At least Tippett plays some ruck and kicks a few goals. What does Carlisle actually do?

Oh, that's the other thing. What happens if Carlisle is banned for 2 years after the WADA/CAS hearing next month? Too bad for St Kilda? Or will Essendon have to pay them back with 2016 draft picks? I've yet to hear a serious answer to this serious question.
