7 year switch?
Oh god this is going to turn into a respect for women conversation. Spare me the faux empathy AFL.
The reason this has got out of hand and become truly destructive is as a result of the media giving the topic oxygen, should never have left the field ffs. The media commentators that have given their two bobs worth are just as much to blame as Jake/whoever for causing Murphy's family, in particular his wife, distress. Now we have to cop a week long of these same commentators lecturing everyone to respect women.
A few questions I have:
If the sledges were so bad, why did Murphy not react earlier? Why did he only react once a player was injured on the ground?
If these sledges were said throughout the game, why did no other Carlton player fly the flag for him?
The moment Murphy gave it to Jake our players were all over him. I loved seeing that.
I personally haven't seen any of our players fly the flag for our club in a very long time. Fired us up and got us home. I think in a way it showed a sign that our boys are maturing.
is f*** you rors still a thing,That liked tweet was from Rors??
Good ******* job.
This. I defended murphy numerous times before this incident but not anymore. it just speaks volumes about his character.Looks like Murphy might have taken a knife to a gun fight and gone crying to Mummy when someone actually fired back, but damn it was dumb of Jake to like that tweet.
Richo and the club would be furious, especially as he'd just been on 360 and said how we overstepped the line and need to be better. Jake liking that tweet has made Richo look stupid and has definitely set us back as far as killing off the media storm goes.
I blame Rors for all this though.
Interesting spin. I don't disagree with a lot. I certainly agree that at the very least, Gears defended his teammate. Another poster in another thread claimed that Murphy had a long time to respond and chose a moment where his target was incapacitated, which does seem pretty weak. What's also weak is if any other Carlton players were around and heard or saw Murphy bring unfairly treated with didn't any of them stick up for their captain? Maybe that's the reason why we're getting stronger while they are not.This. I defended murphy numerous times before this incident but not anymore. it just speaks volumes about his character.
We all knew Carlisle was a bit immature and daft at times but geeze atleast he stands up for himself. Murphy just comes off immature and cowardly. Happy to dish it out, laughs it off when directed at him but the he ****s up sledging an injured player so he looks for the out. Sums him up his career pretty well. Doesnt say boo to ghost until Carlisle looks to be out injured and can't respond.
The difference between Geary and Murphy is like chalk and cheese. Youd feel confident and empowered running out with gears knowing he doesn't take a backward step when faced with adversity. Murphy on the other hand looks for the out. It's pathetic.
The most disappointing thing about this is it appears some men still see women as possessions and lose their shit when confronted with the reality that their partner was sexually active before they met.
Murph mate hate to break it to ya but you weren't the first. It's not a big deal. If someone wants to be an arseh*le and try and insult you over it just move on. It's highly probable the person sledging you wasn't the first either. It's life. ****in deal with it. It's not the 1950s anymore.
I think you all need to take a step back.
The reaction to this is now bordering on hysterical.
If this is what football has now come to, its time to reevaluate if it is worth it.
The incredible pettiness of this is really pathetic.
We have the doyen of morals in the Careys and Lyons tut tutting and finger wagging.
We have supporters of the club about to top themselves because a player liked then unliked a tweet.
All perspective gone. Wilson and co moralising for 20 minutes then cut to the Ben Johnson ad.
Hypocricy writ large
Sadly human nature doesn't change and this will go on while people are forced into fierce, unrelenting competition in order to win. Mind you, regardless of what is said on the field, that is where it should stay.I know what you mean, but it seems though those days might be behind us and people are ready to be a little less personal, especially around delicate emotional issues. You never know what's in the head of the player. Best to just stick to funny stuff I'd think.
We know that Purple was the first to report it & that he'd gone to the CFC media manager. All of a sudden it's everywhere that MM's wife was the target.
Different era now. Maybe for the VFL that's ok, but not with close ups, micked up umpires and social media.Sadly human nature doesn't change and this will go on while people are forced into fierce, unrelenting competition in order to win. Mind you, regardless of what is said on the field, that is where it should stay.
Poor Gangnam SaintCampaigner give urself an uppercut, sensitive little princess. Oh wait...am I being a sexiest alt right nazi pig again?
She's an absolute idiot, making out it was all Carlisle and St Kilda's fault like our players are the only ones that have ever sledged on a footy field before.
Similar stuff and worse would have been said in just about every game but because it ended up in a melee the media have beat it up into another PC scandal.
Poor Gangnam Saint
Who hurt you? Don't worry there is someone out there who will love you for the "nice guy" you are.
Has anyone asked the question;
How did it get into the media that JC allegedly sledged MM about his wife?
It wouldn't have been because MM & Carlton were in damage control & threw Mrs M under the bus so the blame could be pushed JC & StK's way could it?
We know that Purple was the first to report it & that he'd gone to the CFC media manager. All of a sudden it's everywhere that MM's wife was the target.

Credit has to go to Carlton and Murphy for shaping the narrative in their favour. If only Jake/St Kilda got on the front foot about hurtful/damaging/insensitive personal sledges about drug addiction before they got the 'sexism/respect for women' spin going, it would be a different story all together.
