Traded Jake Stringer [traded to Essendon]

I don't think they will take those 2 picks if they can't down grade. I wouldn't be happy to part with 13 or 14 to get 25 & 30. Not sure what the Eagles are thinking.
They would be getting pick 28 as well. They need a lot of picks to cover the number of players they have moved on.

So, if the Gibbs to Adelaide deal occurs at the current rumoured cost (#10 & #16 for Gibbs and Carlton 2018 second), then Carlton might be interested in #25 and #30, as they need an early second for Kennedy. Would the Doggies fans be happy with #16 straight up for Stringer?

(sorry to add a serious post to this sledge-fest).

I think that's the issue Bill. The trade with Essendon for their two second rounders will get done but not until we've assured ourselves we can flip those assets into something that suits us better. Essendon supporters just need to keep their shirts on...they'll get Stringer in good time. If they get him for two second round picks they will be very happy.

If the Dogs have agreed to take 25+30 why cant they just do the trade and then worry about trying to get a first round pick i don't get it.
Possibly they will not take the 2nd rounders without knowing what they can turn them into.

We dont want anither 2 picks in this years draft.

Fair enough, sometimes what seems to be a 'losing' trade turns out better than expected though.

At the time we thought we got smashed in the Tom Boyd trade, but given it led us to a flag and GWS now have a broken down Griffen and pick 6 (Marchbank) was handed off to Carlton anyway every Bulldogs fan I know is happy with it.

Likewise in hindsight you got two seasons out of Cooney and an ongoing cheerleader at SEN, we took a guy with that pick who never played a game. Swings and roundabouts.
All of this stuff only plays out in hindsight

The Fev deal looked awesome for Brisbane. Hindsight - disaster.

The Judd deal looked awesome for Carlton. Hindsight - average.

The Carlisle deal looked awesome for Essendon. Hindsight - crap.

Etc etc

The winners/losers only emerge in the fullness of time. You guys might draft the next Cripps with #13 and Stringer might pressure point Heppell at the brownlow.

It would be a better outcome than at current although if we somehow managed to get WCE's first rounder next year that might top it all if the rumours of draft strength are true.

Would mean our second rounder this year is useless but we could always try to turn it into a 2018 pick somehow.

They are trying to turn a 2018 pick into multiple 2017 top 30 picks and upgrade their 2017 first by four places.

If they give up next years first I'd hope for another 2018 pick to also come back.

They also hold two 2018 fourth rounders so upgrading one or two of those to a third or second might be in discussions as well.

If they go into this years draft with five top 30 picks and also hold two 2018 picks between say 25 / 35 thats still a pretty decent mini rebuild set of picks. Seven top 30 / 35 picks in two drafts.

All true but the odds were heavily stacked against the Bullies getting a great outcome from this situation. It could turn out great or turn to shit for either Essendon or the Bulldogs, but the odds are in favour of Essendon ending up with a win of some sort.

thanks to BOMBERS 4 LIFE!!!!

Yeah but we were equally unlikely to do well out of the Crameri trade (we turned a second rounder - 27 - into Zach Merrett).

Sooo basically the exact same deal we offered but 2 spots lower in the draft.... Am I reading that right?

If so.. LOL.
Yeah - I don't think they'll let that happen as that deal is so obviously worse than what we offered a week ago. I reckon they'll also try and offload their pick 9 as well, and try to get back at least a 2018 second for it.

Maybe they are thinking that the order of draft picks is over rated. There is no much difference between the quality of players picked in the teens and the twenties.
For example, recent draft picks at 13, 25, 28 & 30 have been (omitting 2016 as being too recent to accurately assess player worth yet) -

2015 13.Matt Kennedy 25 Dunkley 28 Partington 30 Redman
2014 13 Weller 25 Nielson 28 Maynard 30 Viojo Rainbow
2013 13 Cripps 25 McStay 28 Dumont 30 Taylor
2012 13 Lonergan 25 White 28 Shaw 30 O"Brien

Tell me that you can draw an inference from that that 13 is worth more than 25+30 (+28?).
It is a raffle, and you are better off with 2 or 3 tickets in the raffle than 1.

Yep. If premierships were awarded for trade deals you guys won the flag that year. Merrett at that pick was an amazingly good get.
