so...25, 28 & 30 for 13...hows them apples?:drunk:
day 1 they turned down 11 and 47 for Stringer and 26 (now 28)

on the cusp of trading 25/28/30 for 13...

so they could have had
OUT: Stringer, 28
IN: 11, 47

now they might be settling for
OUT: Stringer 28
IN: 13

if that trade happens

Yeah this doesn’t make sense. They knocked back 11 and 47, yet want 13 only? Don’t get it.

my guess is they thought he would hold a lot more currency. hoping for a bidding war etc. Rolled the dice and look like losing a bit.

could have easily had Geelong come in and offer 19 and 21 or something like that.

win some/lose some

Would be hilarious if the WB ended up taking a 2 pick downgrade on the original deal that was offered on Day 1
Why would it be hilarious? It was always a pretty shit hand the Bulldogs held and so worth the risk to hold out for a better deal while knowing it could end up in a worse deal. If all it costs is a 2 pick downgrade then the decision to take the risk was not too bad. The Essendon initial offer came very early in the trade period, so there was more than a week for other options to emerge. And we don't know even yet what the final outcome will be. It might be much better or much worse for the Bulldogs (and Essendon) than we are discussing now. Nobody will be able to do a victory dance for a couple of years yet.

It's pretty simple to get.

We shopped pick 11 round to 3 clubs, the catch was that enough had to come back to enable us to complete our other trades. In this instance the Doggies 2nd. The doggies weren't happy with that, meanwhile, GWS offered us a great deal for Smith enabling us enough currency to complete the other two trades. We took it.

In hindsight the Dogs would obviously take the deal, but it is done. Let's all move on. The Dogs are now trying to get the best deal they can, which is pick 13. only fractionally worse for them, since pick 47 was unwanted.

We went too early back when we traded out Lake, had we held on we could have gotten more currency.
The reaction had we taken the deal on day 2 would have been far different to the last week.

Anyway, apparently the player we are looking at with pick 9 is very likely to be there with pick 13, so we're looking to turn our pick 9 into a 2018 first rounder.
One of those "behind the scenes" issues where what we can expect to receive at the draft is a factor behind deals teams pursue.

One thing the hawks did well in building their list for their 3-peat was have an out of contract player nominate them, offer slightly unders and have the old 'threaten to walk' phrase tossed around

they really did a number on North in those years.

not so confident the hawks would have budged much on the Lake trade

Funny thing is I haven't seen any of their posters say this. They just keep banging on about how unfair it was because we asked for their second rounder back.
It was a crap deal then, and it's a crap deal now. Just one we'll probably have to cop.

I don't think the club can be blamed for seeking out something better, and it hasn't gone dramatically backwards.

So reality is that Essendon's offers have been fair and the rage from Dogs supporters has been misplaced.

IF...Bombers supporters are dining out on getting Stringer for a bucket of chips

THEN...remember, there's no such thing as a free lunch.
You're too good at those, Damo?
IF... The Dogs accepted the inevitable last week.

THEN... We could all be at the beach today.
Too much of an actual sliding doors moment.

Yeah I figured if the Eagles want someone that may be gone by 13, but there at 9, and the Doggies want someone who will likely be there at 13, then a it can certainly be beneficial to both teams.

I think the trade with the Eagles is shaping out to be in both teams interests. I just wish it would hurry up, so I can get on with my life ;)

Wait...

So let me get this straight...

In a negotiation... the Bulldogs actually... held out in the hope of getting a better deal?

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

IDIOTS!!

If following football over the past decade has taught me anything (and it hasn't), this means that:

- the Bulldogs are impossible to deal with and simply enjoy making life difficult for all other clubs

- this is why all other clubs hate the Bulldogs

- this is why the Bulldogs can't attract stars from other clubs

- this is why all managers tell their players not to go to the Bulldogs

- this is emblematic of deep organisation issues at the Bulldogs

- Jason McCartney is about to be run out of the game and nobody will ever employ him again

If I'm missing anything, I'm sure my brothers can fill in the gap.

So reality is that Essendon's offers have been fair and the rage from Dogs supporters has been misplaced.
Essendon's offers have been Essendon's offers. We don't have to accept them...but it looks like we probably will. And I'm not going to award points in the BigFooty shitfight.

The offers probably have been fair. The rage is also understandable. They are losing a jet of a player, no doubt one they have enjoyed watching immensely and for relatively low currency. It is the factors that have lowered his value that are to blame in this. EFC are still taking a risk with him.
