I am.

I hardly rate State cricket at all and many thousands who ignore it agree with me. Its only the die hards that think state cricket is like some elite competition. I don't understand why?

It’s probably the best standard domestic competition in the world for whatever that’s worth.

I agree in the sense that most people would prefer the esteem or fame afforded by playing AFL compared to state cricket.
I am personally one of them, I'd much rather play AFL than play state cricket.

But to actually make it to state level cricket is harder than it is to get on to an AFL list. Look at Alistair Nicholson and Quintin Lynch, all they ever did was be born bigger than most people.

Correct, any athletic type sportsman can transfer to AFL at age 15-16-17, and it's happened frequently in the last 5 years.
Rugby Union, League even bloody basketballers have picked up the game relatively easily.

Much harder to succeed at cricket my good friend, much harder.

The fact that no citizen of any other country that plays cricket (a billion odd people give or take a few) is playing state cricket is further testament to how high a level it is.

Some of our state teams can beat some of the world teams

And of course you would rather play AFL more than state cricket it is not the highest level of cricket.

But is harder to get into state cricket than AFL this why some AFL players choose footy over cricket

All this talk about AFL versus State cricket is irrelevant

Brayshaw made a comment to a players face that most non football player comment wouldnt. I bet Commetti,Lane,McAvaney,McGuire wouldnt say to a players face what they say when he is not there.

Didnt see the show but wish I did if interviews are going to have some balls.

Take these figures

~700 AFL Players (~44 * 16)
141 Pura Cup Cricketers (cricinfo)

340,800 = # of Males, over 18, who played outdoor cricket in Australia in 2002
297,700 = # of Males, over 18, who played Aussie Rules in Australia in 2002 (abs cat # 4177.0)

Therefore, roughly 0.04% of cricketers play state cricket, whereas 0.24% of footy players play AFL.

Therefore logically, State Cricket is more "elite"

99% of the known world (No NSW/QLD) would rather play 1 game of AFL than 1 game of state cricket.

Big call, that, I'd be willing to bet that 90% of the known world's population hasn't heard of Aussie Rules football

poor souls... ;)

Chad Cornes seems like a good bloke aswell. No player deserves the crap that JB dished out to him.

So what about all the sh*t that Sam Newman gives Crawf and Lloyd and Bucks?

It's all friendly fire don't look too much into is CC.

He's getting worse. He's really in the the Channel 9 Melbourne boys club now he's totally haming it up to prove he can be as bigger tool as the rest of them.

Yeah yeah yeah.

You're only saying this because JB has a go at poor old Chad.

JB is great.

Seriously for someone who has never played at the highest level, Jb is coming across as an arrogant twat.

How many people who have played at the top level ask these sort of questions? I would think none, and therefore it is up to those who haven't played at the highest level, yet see more football than the players themselves, to ask these questions.

and therefore the A league is even more elite?

Instead of the footy show up here we got second rate early round womens tennis with the usual names like stickitinyabich and patmavulva....no wonder channel 9 has gone to the dogs lately.

So far as Brayshaw is concerned i like his style....a good mix of arrogance and humour...goes well.

Doesnt matter if he hasnt played AFL...he was damn good at the sports he applied himself to.

Not many of us were good enough to play at AFL level, but that doesnt mean we dont know how to kick a footy.....not important to me whether he's a past "star" of the game

Wow, someone associated with the Footy Show disrespecting someone from outside Melbourne? Unheard of.

Brayshaw is rubbish anyway.

He is. I know I've posted on that subject significantly before this.

James Brayshaw shouldn't be on TV

At least Chad didn't feel the need to tell Brayshaw that he'd kill him.

And at least Goodwin didn't follow through with his words and assault a member of the public :p Bet you knew that one was coming :D

Players are conditioned to deal with critisicm. Chad would have walked away and had a beer with JB that night.

If you're so angry about what JB said to poor Chad, where were you when Sam was dishing out sh*t to Hird and Bucks?

Hey guys, could one of you please explain to me what it means to be "unaccountable" and why its offensive to say it?

I watched the footy show last night and read this thread but Im still not so sure what it means. Thanks.

In a nutshell it means that you pay no attention to the player your supposed to be matched up on and do nothing to try and stop him from getting the ball

oh ok, now i see...

what i dont understand though, is why did they want Cornes on the show so badly anyway? I'd have been more entertained watching grass grow then watching him.
