I’ve often thought how immature the AFL world is (the inner sanctum, footy clubs, HQ etc.) but seems they’re much more mature than the general footy public going by this thread.

Yep, Hird stuffed up, paid his penance and looks to have been approached to guide some of the youngest fine men in the land in a game he excelled at as a player himself.

No worries guys, keep holding grudges that mean absolutely zero to the real world. Will only put you in a grave earlier the way some of you carry on

In the real world cheats shouldn't be allowed tp proper and your club tried cheating and was caught.

The rest of you just have to accept the fact it happened 10 years ago and 99% of the world has moved on.
It has, but some bombers fans still claim their club is innocent, but you to your credit are not one of them.
In my opinion the whole sage will haunt Hird more than your club in the long term, and I'm sure that if Hird turns up at another club in some capacity the actions of that club will be very closely watched, and the same with Dank as well

It’s not childish or grudge holding to think that the people behind a club sanctioned doping program shouldn’t hold an official role in the sport again. It’s common sense outside of backwater sports.

Not that it really matters, as it wasn't banned by ASADA unlike compounding TB4 to get around the drug code, it does pay to read the article, and not just the title B4L!!!!

"Guerra received the treatment, as did St Kilda captain Nick Riewoldt. But the player who encouraged Marks that the treatment could revolutionise AFL football came from Essendon. That player, whom the doctor would not name due to practitioner-patient confidentiality, enjoyed such success using Orthokine that he returned from a soft-tissue injury that was originally expected to sideline him for eight to 10 weeks after only five weeks." 😂
Six clubs have already tried Orthokine treatment and there has been an influx of interstate players booking in to Melbourne's Olympic Park clinic, which is pioneering the treatment in Australia.

Even if they try to hide their use/abuse of any performance-enhancing peptides from ASADA and they're later caught red-handed by the Feds like Essendon were, it will treated by WADA as a sure sign of their guilt if they leave the forms blank. They won't convince people they weren't cheating and that they were simply duped by rogue scientists. Sure, their own deluded fans will desperately believe any bullshit their players concoct. But they won't fool anyone else.
'the Feds' had nothing- why do you think the whole case went to CAS who then changed all the rules to get a doping tick.
Absolute farce.

I'm not getting caught up in what happened, that has been done to death, you can go on with whatever you like, facts or no facts but it happened, punishments handed down, penance paid and now time to move on in life. That goes for the general footy public as well.

If the carry on applied to everyone, we wouldn't have seen the best in Dane Swan, Ben Cousins, Lance Franklin etc. for being known drug cheats either.

As said, the sooner you accept it's in the past, the happier your lives will be. No point holding a grudge over something you can't control. Hird will be back in AFL circles in some capacity. He was always a high achiever in everything he did. AFL world knows this and will get him involved in the game somehow.

Weren't they suspected / known users of recreational drugs....not performance enhancing drug cheats like the entire Essendon team

Again, personal drug use is nothing to do with an organised, institutional PEDs program. Nothing at all.

Dank had the ability to conduct an institutional PED regime ?
Come off it.
Yes, thanks to Essendon's poor governance and James Hird's enthusiasm to fast track the power & strength capabilities of his players using sports science, Steve Dank and Dean Robinson were given the go-ahead to implement the coach's systemic doping regime. Hird oversaw their work, ignored the team doctor's reservations and actively greased the rails, so to speak.

If you remember, it was him who called his personal trainer & "dietary advisor" from his own playing days, Shane Charters to acquire the Thymosin Beta 4 materials from China. Charters had forged a lucrative career for himself as an importer of steroids and other PEDS for the bodybuilding and powerlifting community here in Australia. He was being closely monitored by federal agents who were working a "sting" operation, which is how Essendon got caught.

Dank and Robinson were well-versed in the next-generation PEDs, having implemented similar doping regimes at the Cronulla and Manly rugby league clubs immediately prior to joining Essendon. Robinson (with Dank's advice) had previously worked wonders with Geelong's list from 2007-2009 under Mark Thompson's authority. You could say, that's why they got the job at Essendon.

Dank's partner in crime, Dean Robinson explained in an interview how he laid it all out for the Essendon CEO and told him they were veering into murky territory in terms of what was technically permitted & not permitted by WADA and ASADA.

"I told him about the supplement regime and pushing it to the edge. He said, 'I'll put it in my terms. I'm an accountant. At the end of the day, I've got no problem with tax minimisation, but I've got a problem with tax avoidance.' Which says to me, push to the edge. They knew what was going on. This wasn't closed door, secret meetings, the rest of it. It was open. They knew from the top of the club, all the way through."

"Do you blame yourself for that culture?"

"I followed the directive I was given by the head coach. That was what I was there for. Now maybe I should have been a bit more dictatorial and pulled it all back. I did this year when I got asked to investigate the supplements we were using and what would help me during this coming season. Danny Corcoran asked me to do that, and I said no. I stripped it right back. I didn't even give them protein powder this year. And I was getting heat from everyone, but I was trying to pull it back and get the basics right, because I felt it had gotten out of control. I wanted to get back to the players doing the right things – the right nutrition, the right recovery."

The Feds were the ones who discovered Essendon's wrongdoing - the systemic PED regime - and they gathered much of the evidence which was later used by the anti-doping agencies.

How do you think all the emails and text messages between Hird, Dank, Robinson, Charters and Alavi came to light?

Their evidence showed clear intent for the procurement and use of Thymosin Beta 4. It catalogued each step of journey in acquiring the TB4 components from China and importing them to Australia; in getting them compounded into a final usable product & packaged for practical use by individuals; and then delivered to Essendon.

From there, we saw numerous admissions from those involved about the methods which were used to implement Essendon's off-site injecting program.

"the Feds had nothing..." What are you? A moron? If it wasn't for those pesky Feds, none of Essendon's cheating would've come to light.
Hird, Thompson, Dank, Robinson, Watson and the 33 other players might've gotten away with it.

Should Lance Armstrong be able to manage a Tour de France racing team? Actions have consequences, not just the immediate punishments handed down. I have no problem with the players returning to the fold, or even Hird finding ways to make a living out of speaking engagements. But if you are behind an institutionalised doping program, you shouldn’t ever again hold an official role on the sport. The AFL will demonstrate what a backwater sports organisation it is if it ever signs off on some kind of official role.

Yet they bumbled around and abandoned AOD 9604, then jumped on board the TB4 train and had to go verdict shopping with CAS to land a kangaroo conviction. Dank isn't smart enough to circumvent all that investigative work by the Feds and ASADA and AFL Anti Doping to have the case end up on the other side of the world.
