"Can't win a final. We'll hijack the second biggest weekend on the footy calendar!"

Well done, Essendon! Kudos. No other story in the history of football has managed to take the focus of a finals matches.

Next week it will be announced he's coaching the club again and the GF will struggle to get a mention

People forget Essendon had a solid 11 win season in 2012 and were on top of the ladder undefeated after 6 rounds in 2013 with a percentage of 171 before all the pressure started piling on

But that was 10 years ago.. He comes across as intelligent but who knows if he is up to the modern game...

In 2012 they finished 11th with 11 wins and 11 losses kicking a score of 2091 for with 2090 against. That isn't solid, it's the perfect example of average.

And nobody has forgotten they were juiced up to get there.

Legit looked like a premiership contender under Hird haven't been close since.

If Hird was an assitant at another club after he left Essendon then I wouldn't have issue with him coming back.

Was it Parkin who got sacked by Calrton and then they rehired him and won the flag in 95?

Didnt we get the finals off the front page in 2013?

Thompson was in the box with him, and they were on PEDs.

In other news, Ben Rutten is now employed at a club who have a hope.
