Has a bit of an Ian Callinan feel about this one. Obviously younger than Ian was, but a short, not-so-quick, but super smart footballer with genuine goal sense and can have cameos in the midfield.

That said, I'm not excited about this pick either.

Interesting though that in Ogilvy's post draft interview he spoke about the bid at 1 being strategic to stay ahead of Bulldogs (and Carlton) because of their interest in Rowe. The Port pick swap says they were after someone in that range - wonder if that was Rowe, or he was the fallback.

I will question draft decisions by I will rarely write a player off early, but I think this is a poor pick. We already have a bunch of small forwards, and have added Cook and Newchurch. You could argue we need an upgrade there but Rowe isn't it.
Passing on Jack Carroll who is a bigger need and who I think will be a better player is pretty disappointing.
Our small forwards who have shown they could be long term AFL players:

Stengle

Apart from high end mids, I think we're lacking in this area the most.

Alao said we did the first pick bid to take away WB later pick because they had info WB would draft Rowey

I think Jimmy will play the first 3 round in place of suspended Stengle. A few goal and Tyson may be on the way out.

Tyson is a very, very good player, he'll be hard to keep out if we're fair dinkum about putting our best 22 out there. Rowe will have to push past Murphy who was dropped late in the year to play round 1.

Was also building a nice understanding with Mcadam. Combination was working - will be a shame if he doesnt make it from here.

Listening to Rowie this morning has been a classic, the emotion is raw
I'm stoked for him. Rowey (snr) loves this footy club - he's heavily invested not just professionally but personally, so it must be an incredibly proud moment.

Good on him.

Not a bad stat.

Across 2019-2020, Rowe has kicked 82 goals in 34 games at SANFL level, sharing the Ken Farmer Medal this year as the State League’s leading goalkicker. He finished equal third in the SANFL for goal assists and led the League for averaging groundball gets inside forward 50.

Stengle won't play round 1.

Is he suspended for 4 or 8?
