I think we should become a republic and formally split from the Commonwealth and that can be Australia Day.

That being said, this invasion day thing is just politics which pulls at the heartstrings, if there is a section of the community that feels hurt about "invasion day" it is because various political groups have agitated them to feel that way, because it suits them.

The voice is a waste of time. Everyone has a voice, one person, one vote.
Changing Australia day is a waste of time. Whatever you change it to will always be the invasion day celebration.
Nothing will ever be good enough.

There can't be an endgame, as soon as it looks feasible that Australians are okay with moving the date or passing a referendum like the Voice, the goal posts have to keep shifting. The objective isn't a fixed outcome, it is to keep people agitated. Agitated people give you political power.

These people offer nothing constructive.

"War" hey Lidia? What happened to reconciliation?

People can no longer celebrate comfortably??? Got news for you most people who are celebrating are doing it comfortably…

Sorry you can have collective guilt for those of us who refuse to have it for something not done by ourselves.
Have you ever felt pride or happiness for something not done by yourself? For example, pride for something done by another Australian? And who do you mean by 'ourselves'?

"These people"

Aren't you a massive campaigner?

Spent afternoon at local country lake. Plenty of boats and people enjoying the good weather like most weekends. Saw plenty of people having a good time but didnt see a single Australian flag.

and so we should .

What’s the end game then. The apology wasn’t enough. Changing the date won’t be enough. The voice won’t be enough. Reparations won’t be enough……a treaty won’t even be enough……this is about power and control…..Not equality/equity/coexisting….. it’s propelled by the drama triangle not honest problem solving….. we are all complicit in this whether indigenous or non indigenous.

Needs A mix of the one now with the Aboriginal and the T I flags.
Surely, some genious could rustle up some blend, reflecting and respecting all.
Show us what you want, surely if you've given enough consideration to why the current flag isnt acceptsble you've considered in detail what an acceptable one does look like.

Personally I have no attachment to the Austalian flag but surely a flag needs to represent all cultures that now make up Australia and not 2 indigenous groups, no?

A new flag needs to be inclusive to all but it can certainly include elements of the Aboriginal and TI flags as a starting point.

Yep, sure.

So what political "solution" do you think they have? That is an senator I quoted, what solution do you think she is suggesting based on her speech?

In this country we bring in migrants and asylum seekers from African nations and they are thankful for the peace and prosperity, they can have great lives and provide a future for their kids they could have only dreamed of back home.

Why can't we achieve the same things for our first nation people? If our society was inherently racist, we wouldn't be bringing people in from Africa or the Middle East or Asia.

What is it that we can't have better outcomes here for the First Nation people?

Albanese talks about giving a voice to First Nation people but at the first sign of trouble he flies in to Alice Springs and starts limiting alcohol sale. This is a trope from the 70s and has never done anything before. Giving people a voice is pointless if you are just going to ignore what they say. Our youth catch and release programs are a disaster for our indigenous communities who are on the front line of being victims of the crime. It is only compounded by the fact our education and correctional institutions are appallingly ineffective.

We don't need massive knobs from Canberra dictating who can get a beer in the hottest place on the planet, the violence is a symptom of a dereliction of political duty and these are the people who are going to lead us to the promised land? If Albanese wants to give First Nation people a political voice, listen to them in the NT and show it by acting on it. Otherwise it is pointless. If you are going to ignore them in the NT what are the odds of you listening to them in Canberra?

Understandable sentiment but then the issue becomes, define "all".

Australia is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world. Going forward, how do we cater for "all" Australians uniquely in just one flag, or is it just a select group/s? ABS has nearly 30% of Australians currently born overseas.

The reality is, whether we like it or not, that only one solution is wholistically viable and that is something which causes the least offense across the board.

It's either a unanimous compromise on something like this (below) or spend the next 100yrs arguing and squabbling from all corners and getting nowhere.

The inevitability of a date change and the conversation around the Voice has clearly this year caused bigots to turn to a not even subtly racist “they’ll never by happy” argument.

It’s ****ing gross. If you’re running this line you should be ashamed of yourself, it’s an argument that just results in you telling on yourself.

I don't know whether 'they' will be happy or not but go ahead and change the date if they believe it will make it so.

If nothing changes, then we'll know for sure that Australia day was never the issue to begin with.

Just give it a go and see what happens, not like it's a long standing tradition, after all.

I’m not reading all that.

But you referred to a stage full of indigenous people and one politician as “these people” before trying to claim you’re referring to politicians.

Don’t try and rewrite this as anything other than the racist comment that it was.
