Understandable sentiment but then the issue becomes, define "all".

Australia is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world. Going forward, how do we cater for "all" Australians uniquely in just one flag, or is it just a select group/s? ABS has nearly 30% of Australians currently born overseas.

The reality is, whether we like it or not, that only one solution is wholistically viable and that is something which causes the least offense across the board.

It's either a unanimous compromise on something like this (below) or spend the next 100yrs arguing and squabbling from all corners and getting nowhere.

As a non-Indigenous person, I think the Aboriginal flag is an excellent flag and would be proud to have it as our national flag. It symbolises what Australia is - the red earth, the dark skin of those who have lived here for fifty thousand years, and the bright sun.

However, I doubt we will ever get consensus on that. Reactionaries would see it as pandering, and some Aboriginal people could see it as stealing a uniquely Aboriginal symbol. Torres Strait Islanders have their own unique flag and the Aboriginal flag was not intended to represent them.
I like the colours and would welcome a flag using them and the principles they represent but modified to suit all Australians..

I've often imagined a flag similar to South Africa's only reversed in layout with the top left section black to represent our Indigenous people, the bottom left section the red land and a blue triangle on the right to represent the sea, defined with white lines.
Then I'd make our current 7 pointed star an 8 pointed star, colour it yellow and move it to the top left corner, it continues to represent the sun in the traditional sense having risen over the new inclusive Australia whilst identifying the 8 States and Territories.
Also on the black background, which could not only represent our Indigenous Heritage but the night sky, a southern cross of yellow stars.
Finally the white dhari in the centre of the blue sea to represent the islands.

It is only acceptable to be patriotic when watching professional athletes compete in corporate advertisement laden competition.

Outside of that, you should be ashamed of your country and its history.

Especially whatever happened before you were born.

You should parrot the currently acceptable version of events and talking points, even if they are wildly different to what was taught in schools just one generation ago.

As history changes, you should change with it.

Make Orwell proud 👍

I think the tipping point on January 26 has probably been reached, and I think it's important to remember that a section of the community won't be happy with any other date either.
I don't see why it needs to be a set date at this stage. Make it the first Friday in Feb to give everyone a long weekend.

Australia Day will have it's official date when we become a Republic.

Exactly
Up until 1994 it used to the closest Monday to the 26th Jan

My preference would be the second Monday in Feb
It allows the bogans to have their summer beach b-b-q in good weather

We're coming after ANZAC Day next, followed by compulsory gay marriage, banning of Christmas and forced pilgrimage to Mecca. That's a a nice slippery slope you're offering up there dude.

Why does it have to be the same date every year? Make Australia Day a long weekend on the last Friday of January.

This is absolutely the best idea and something I'd want to put across all public holidays - Make them a Monday or a Friday.

The number of people that will take a 'sickie' today for a long weekend is huge. If today was the holiday people wouldn't be taking yesterday off. It'd be a net positive all around IMO.

I think in 2023 it is more likely people will "work from home" if they can and do little work but take a relaxed attitude.
