i hope polec stays at our club. he is an adelaide boy who we got to come back home from brisbane. you guys are right. he has been our best midfielder this year. we cant afford to lose him to a victorian club. we just cant. give him what he wants ports. get it done.

600k 4+ years. The story is very different when it isn't Kane Cornes reporting it with his own agenda attached. And to think I was locked out for saying the offer isn't 750k...for shame.

If you're sending 10 to Port how do you think you'll get a deal done for Gaff?

I'm presuming that we'll match any offer to force a trade.

Hypothetically speaking, we raise to 1.3 mil, if you match, we will pull out. If matching is your way of squeezing more out of nothing, then you run the risk of eating your own medicine.

the gaff FA is has significant prestige aspect to go with but its is the signing of polec and hall that is much more pragmatic and have much greater level of impact in 2019. The cost for a gaff is massive, so the risk is significantly greater. Will he get to his height at wc, esp now that his father is gravely ill. Also what's gaff's mental state after the king hit, would he lose all confidence and go into his shell. The polec and hall signing is much lower risk in that their time at north essentially is final chance saloon, so no way back for them, either charge or die. Gaff has too many baggage but at worst he is a very good outside player. So at the end of the day in 2019, Higgins will lead at least 2 of hall, polec, gaff plus continued development of hartung as the outside brigade. Of course this is only what we fans can see, there might be more also. Atley is not too far away from a breakout season. He currently averages like 19.6 disposal but with the influx of recruitment, he could really blossom.

errrrrrrrrrr, one step at a time. lets start with a top 8 finish first........Lets not get into the carlton 'we are coming' mode circa 2013, we know how that went...
You might want to turn on your sarcasm meter.

I think the post was being sarcastic, not complimentary.

It's free agent or bust. That's why he's been offered so much. The offer is bigger in an effort to avoid West Coast matching. The dream of WC getting a first from North is exactly that - a dream. You get a compensation pick or Gaff with a bigger contract. That's McGovern on 1.2 million and Gaff close to 1 million = a tight squeeze for WC's cap.

If he hasn't re-signed by friday, then I reckon we have snagged him

Hey gaff here is 7 years 850 a year oh what wc matched we take it back sorry gaffy all good..

Seems legit
You don't think Gaff would be aware of the risks when looking at a contract offer as a restricted free agent?

It's win-win for him. And if he wants to leave but isn't sure North can get a deal done there's plenty of other clubs who would pick him up in a trade, but I imagine if there's an offer from North the money would have to be more than WC could reasonably want to match, and more than other vic clubs are willing to offer. If that is not the case we would not be a discussion point for his possible destinations.

Live trading of picks means North can trade 2019 draft picks if an early bid comes for Thomas.

There is no pressure on North to still have a top 10 pick on draft day, however they will be very keen to get Port's pick 22 or 30 from the Polec trade.

Its actually in your best interest too trade your first for a experienced player in this scenario. A 2nd and a bunch of 3rd and a 4th can equate to a first with a 20% discount.

Sorry i was implying that north are interested in both polec and atley, yeah your first pick for polec is fair. But atley? Polly AND Atley? Is next years 1st pick in play? What about Preuss? Polly and Atley for say 2018 1st rounder, Preuss and your 2019 2nd?

There is no way in hell Atley is worth Preuss + a 2nd rounder.

I know all teams overvalue their own but this is getting ridiculous.

We've cooled on Atley by all accounts (some say to the extent we've told him it ain't happening). Daresay we're only interested in Polec now.

The mail we are no longer interested in Atley came directly from Shaun, according to one of our usually well-connected posters.

I expect the deal will just be pick swaps.

I think it's more likely Atley + your second round pick for Preuss rather than the other way around.

How long has Hartlett got left on his contract, losing Polec and being stuck with Hartlett must hurt.
2021. Doesn't hurt at all considering he's our best half back defender and signed before the cap increase. How does Hartlett affect Polec anyway? It'd be more Wingard if anything the team can't fit him into the midfield and see him as a better mid then forward, so when Polec leaves he'll take his spot.

Sorry but losing a player like Polec is not a good thing for your team no matter what spin you put on it, he is a top 5 player for your club, has a massive year.
Hartlett is crap on big coin.

Hahaha, man you really don't know our players. Every player that's out of contract somehow have their best year then at our club then disapear when they resign. It's funny you mention Hartlett (only just started playing good this season) bacause he was one of them, Lobbe, Pitard, Hombsch, Sam Gray, Ebert etc. also. Whesthoff is also out of contract and he's having his best year ever he's probably been our best this season. Honestly don't be suprised when you stop hearing Polecs name next year.

Hartlett isn't on that much coin considering the spike happened after it and is our was our best defender before getting injured this year.

My comments regarding Hartlett has also got to do with how good I believed he should have been, pick 3 or 4 from memory being compared to Buckley as an 18 year old and watching his career he really has fallen short of the career most expected.

Nah. You tried to say he was a dud who we were stuck with.

As I said you clearly don’t watch or know port. Hartlett has been excellent for us for a while now.
