Jarrad Boumann TO Hawthorn

Surprised by this. Boumann was always athletic enough for the AFL. The penny might have dropped with his attitude. In his last year with us he was struggling to fit into Williamstowns best 22.

Good luck to him though.

I think we are overlooking one thing here. He was recruited as a forward at the Bulldogs, but is now playing as a pure defender. Depending on when he changed over to the backline, I wouldnt read to much into his time at the bulldogs.

When did he start playing in the backline.......was he playing backline for Williamstown in his final year at the Dogs.....??

A Kyabram connection. In 2008 he played in Murray's TAC premiership, gained a draft camp invite and then missed a listing and then overlooked in the rookie draft. A couple of things turned the clubs off and the stint at Werribee has been good news for the lad.

Maybe a rookie drafting is more likely than anything.

Yes, that would be good. If he is anything like Max Rooke, we will need him in the finals, probably more so than Gunstan. Can imagine him lining up on Jack Darling or having a stint in the middle and putting fear into a few guys like chapman/selwood and also going forward. Need someone with a bit of physicality, grunt, pace.

Gee, can't get a positive word out of any Dogs' supporters...

Ill say this, he always had talent, it was his attitude and application that was amiss at the dogs. Not everyone is a mature head at 18, he probably just needed a kick in the ass to get his shit right.

Good luck to the kid everyone deserves a second chance, i wouldn't be surprised to see him to well for you guys.

I just watched the Boumann highlights package from the Hawks website - not exactly inspiring stuff there. There was one spoli in the whole package, the rest of the time he looked like an oversized half back flanker. Surely they could hae put together a more inspiring video!

If you want to get inspired see some of Tim Mohr's package. He looks the most likely to beat dawes/cloke/IPod type. There is a picture of him against dawes and several others. He looks great one on one against Dawes and in the air.

No one has answered me. What did we offer to get Tim Mohr or don't we need him.

Now with Bouman, who is he going to replace? Is he a backup for Gilham?

Yeah I agree those 'highlights' are pretty poor, I'm not even sure what the last clip was about . . .

Boumann probably gets the mobile tall, I don't know that he necessarily replaces anyone, except that Birchall doesn't have to play on a tall anymore hopefully.

Jack Darling, Justin Westhoff, Liam Jones, Tyrone Vickery, Adam Goodes, these are the type of forwards I think he would play on. Allows Schoenmakers and/or Gilham to play on the big key forwards, Gibson to 3rd man up, Stratton can play almost any role, Birchall to concentrate on rebounding, Guerra and/or Murphy will get the small forwards. I know that's more than six defenders, but they would be interchangeable.

Box Hill reports this year have been very favourable, looking through the Box Hill board the reviews of his defensive performances have been very good.

i.e.

Boumman was fantastic I thought. As a FB goes, he did exactly what you ask. Killed almost every contest he could get to, and just never gave in.

Its my understanding that GWS put him in the untouchable category...have no idea if we asked about him..
I think I heard it on TWR sometime over the last week

I hope Boumann proves me wrong for what I am about to say about him:
J.Boumann is a Nick Maxwell prototype. Ive watched BHH quite a few times this year, and i dont see much natural talent at all, I see someone who works really hard and gives his all. He has height but is very skinny, certainly no gorilla! And I dont think he would be able to hold down any opposition gorillas. I dont see him winning many 1-on-1's and I dont see him making it into our best 22. Good luck Boumann, and like I said, I hope you prove me wrong.

P.S.: I believe he would still be around in the national draft at #71, let alone #56!

Maybe the Hawks recruiting team finally gave into the Big Footy posters busting their balls about how they should get this player, and that player and why don't we give this guy from Box Hill. They finally listened just to shut you mob up... and if Boumann fails to make an impact, you're the ones to blame! YOU!!!

The highlights package wasn't the best of his talents. I don't get to see much Box Hill, but the couple of games I saw this year I did notice this young lad and his ability to take a number of strong clunks in the back half. He took the game on.

I must say though, he seems to have a slightly weird looking kicking style for a big man. Seems to caress the ball on short kicks, which is good I suppose. One thing I do like from those highlights is his nimble frame. Avoiding tackles, grabbing the ball in one hand and having awesome coordination for such a big kid stands out for mine.

Really, that would have been a remarkable get considering he wouldn't have made it to the draft because Fremantle offered a pick better than our 58.

Anyway, I'm sure the club has seen enough of him to make an informed judgement on his character. Wouldn't be the first young bloke to over-indulge a bit (if that is even the case) and then mature, especially in the knowledge that it is likely his last chance. And this time he is at a club with a strong culture that breeds success, not some half-arse glorified suburban club that has made an artform out of failure.:thumbsu:

Same people that made character judgements on Hooper and Peterson....how did they turn out.....

His attitude was only small problem, the fact that at his size he will be in the bottom quartile at Hawks in there benchpress is his problem, very physically weak which is a serious problem for a KD at AFL level, if he gets to Zac Dawson level he will be lucky.

Really, bench press.....you judge a footballers strength in a contest by this, Oh dear.

Spent his time with us playing mainly in defence. Was tried a few times as a forward with varying success in Willi reserves. He probably would have got a game with us this year when our backline was totally decimated.

Which paper did you read, radio station you hear, tv you watch, or person(s) you spoke to,........tell you, that Freo wanted Boumann for such a pic???? I have been all over everything Hawthorn in this trade period and have never heard such a thing! just from Hawks supporters who try to make themselves feel better about our trades.
If it has not been said by a Hawks official, it did not happen

Hahahaha...oh dear, nothing had to be said...this fact below is for all to see, if you need someone to spell it out for you then you really are daft.

This trade below is fact....Please tell me whats in it for Hawthorn.
Draft picks 38 and 56 from Fremantle to Hawthorn for picks 29, 58 and 71.

If we didn't have to buy off Fremantle why wouldn't we just give GWS 53? (beats 56), I assume our recruiters know basic arithmetic.

We would then have 29, 33, 38 & 71 rather than 33, 38 & 53.

Calm down before you have a conniption.

Freo had first dibs on the kid. We had to give something up beyond our Pick 56. That is it. No big mystery. Mohr was never going to be a Hawk. GWS has said that he is on their untouchables list.

Please spell it out Dipper - call me daft cos I am missing the point.
I dont see where it says "freo wanted JB for a Draft pic better than hawks draft pic".
To assume makes an ASS out of U and ME

So, please tell me.....where did u hear that freo had 1st dibs? R u assuming that cos the trade was so weird, or is it fact?
I stand to be corrected if it is fact. And if it is, how? where? from who?

On Thursday the Dockers gave GWS the end-of-first-round compensation pick they received for Rhys Palmer's defection, swapping it for pick 20 in this year's draft. That deal is believed to have been struck on the proviso that Fremantle would access an unspecified pre-listed player or two, later in the trade period.

As confirmed by Emma Quayle last Saturday.

Yep, you're daft.

Before we traded our picks to Fremantle we had draft picks 29, 33, 53, 58, 71

we then traded picks 29, 58 and 71 to Fremantle for 38 and 56.

If Freo had no hold over Hawthorn then why didn't we just offer our pick 53 to GWS for Boumann ?
We could have completely bypassed the Fremantle trade where we lost a pick and on top of that our first pick went down 9 spots in the draft.
