People need to stop stressing. The deal will happen. This is probably the biggest trade to happen in the AFL since Chris Judd to Carlton. There is absolutely no way the AFL don’t hold it back to the last day for the ratings and all the crazy media coverage it is getting on every platform every day leading up to the end of the trade period.

Trade a midrange player (probably Bonner) out for around pick 30ish.

Trade pick 30ish, 43, and 53 to Brisbane for 21 for draft points for Ashcroft.

Trade 8, F1 and 21 to West Coast for 2 and Rioli (unders for the pick but overs for Rioli, so it evens out)

Trade 2 and 33 to North for Horne-Francis.

Provided Brisbane don't get a better offer, I think everyone involved would go for that.
This is the best trade I've seen so far

North could even throw in a wink wink nudge nudge that they won't bid on Ashcroft at 1 or 2. That alone would be an extra 700+ draft points for Brisbane (equivalent of pick 25) without anyone else involved actually losing anything.

After reading some of the absolute crap from wet toast supporters it is still obvious that ginormous inferiority complex a number of West Aussies have had for decades for anything east of the nullabor is still alive and well.

That bloke who suggested some years back that a large trench be dug from north to south so the campaigners could be separated from mainland Oz and floated a couple of hundred k's into the Indian ocean may have been onto something.

Brisbane already have a slew of picks in the 30s and 40s, and they are limited with how many picks they can use to match, so not sure they go for this

That's where North ending up with picks 1 and 2 and agreeing not to bid on Ashcroft with either of them comes in. That alone would do more to help Brisbane than any realistic trade they might be able to pull off. On draft points it's the equivalent of a free pick 25.
Not sure that that would pass the AFL draft integrity "sniff test". We would need to involve Geelong in there somewhere to get it through.

That will happen in 2022 and I am happy with that but I have issues with the view that it is acceptable to burn two years of Draft picks to get 2 players. Somehow, and I have no idea how, we need to come away with one or possibly two second round picks for 2023.

One alarming point in this morning's press was that Port are trading to get back into Premiership contention in Ken Hinkley's final year of contract. I sure hope we are trading to build for the long term future and not to save Hinkley's job.

A key ingredient in the deal is Riley Bonner. Hopefully he finds a new home and we get a reasonable price that we can use this year thus avoiding buying into next year. We will lose our future first round pick but that should be the limit.
Horne-Francis is about the only player in the league I'd be happy to sell the farm for. I don't care about Rioli, don't care about Hinkley in fact I want him sacked but we are building a team that can win premierships from 2025 onwards and its that type of midfielder as long as we don't lose anyone that will get us over the line.

Clubs don’t work that way. No one would ever trade with North or West Coast again - it’s called bad faith. Because if they did it to us, what would stop them doing it to any other club?

Fans get super emotional during trade period, because they tie trades and draft picks to their hopes and dreams for the upcoming season - it’s why after last year’s trade period and draft most people felt flat because we gave up a lot for what appeared to be very little.

Clubs, on the other hand, see players as commodities and work to create deals that will benefit both parties. It’s not personal - it’s strictly business.

How do you get bad faith by the Eagles ?

So we lose Bonner and the accompanying 30ish, our first, our future first, and 2022 picks 21, 33, 43 and 53? o_Oo_Oo_O

I'd be wanting JH-F, Kossie and NW-M for that.

Yes. That's what JHF is going to cost, at a minimum. Deal with it.

What good faith was there when North traded for Jacobs or when Collingwood traded for Nick Stevens or any dealings that we've had with Collingwood re prison bar jumper.

Far too much is made by our good guy trading persona and opposition clubs treat it as a weakness. Every time we pursue a target they try and shake lose one of our marquis players. Fantasia trade was the ultimate example. Wines for Fantasia why would he even try unless he thought there might be just a small chance that it could happen.

As far as I'm concerned be ruthless off the field as well as on it without going to the stupidity of Adrian.
